This low carb craze isn't going away. Seems we have to expose these arguments to the light and purge them. Below is some of the low carb literature flying around. I think the low carb diet is completely wrong, yet just try convincing someone who believes in low carbs. At the very least this thread will help so we don't get blindsided by their arguments.
"There was no association between dietary intake of SFAs and incident coronary events or mortality in patients with established CAD." J Nutr. 2015 Feb;145(2):299-305. doi: 10.3945/jn.114.203505. Epub 2014 Dec 10.

"COLUMBUS, Ohio – Doubling or even nearly tripling saturated fat in the diet does not drive up total levels of saturated fat in the blood, according to a controlled diet study." Published on November 21, 2014
"The results show that dietary and plasma saturated fat are not related, and that increasing dietary carbohydrate across a range of intakes promotes incremental increases in plasma palmitoleic acid, a biomarker consistently associated with adverse health outcomes."

"A meta-analysis of prospective epidemiologic studies showed that there is no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD or CVD."

Hmmm, I came across a new term that seems to be important to low carb people. To defeat their arguments we need to empathize with them. The new term is very low density lipo protein. Apparently low-carb enthusiasts see them as the real enemy.
"It is also important to minimize the amount of simple carbohydrates consumed, such as processed white bread, pasta, and crackers, as well as sweets like candy or cookies, as these can cause VLDL cholesterol levels to spike." wisegeekhealth retrieved Sept 14, 2015.
Note in the same article "Foods that are high in fiber like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are known to have a positive impact."
Basically what I am getting is low carb enthusiasts see that white sugar and flour products are bad and eliminate almost all carbs. We can learn from them though. Processed white bread and so forth = unhealthy. Note low-carb dieters avoid milk because of the lactose sugar in liquid form. We really are only fighting over fruit and meats. Low carbs think fruit is the enemy and raw vegans think meat is the enemy.

I like the term vegucation you used. I've been meaning to look up IGF-1 with meat. Mostly I hear IGF-1 and dairy.

Stinks about chronic kidney issues. I hope you are feeling better now. Walking the walk is hard. When all your friends act weird when you refuse free pizza. Or you on a long outing and are so famished you'll eat any food.
Let alone resistance from yourself. Old habits die hard. Changing your palette. Detox symptoms. Let alone vegan-ism isn't supported by the food pyramid nor public school's nutrition classes.
