Any runners with wide feet? Shoe recommendations?

Hey guys

Can anyone recommend me a running shoe with a really wide toebox?

I've got a pair of Brooks Adrenaline in a 2E width and the although the width of the forefoot is good they're too wide at the heel. I'm constantly having to stop and pick out bits of gravel and twigs that have slipped into the gap at the heel!

Can't understand why shoe manufacturers all seem to insist on a narrow toebox that squishes  toes together!

  • I really like my Merrell Road Glove 2's, the toebox is huge and they are really light.  I also use Vibram 5F for trail runs.

  • Altra's are good for that - zero drop, ample toe box, lots of cushioning.

    • Hey Gianni - thanks, hadn't considered them, looks like they could be an option. Hadn't realised there are zero drop shoes available that aren't 'minimal'.

      • There is a guy on youtube called The Ginger Runner who has reviewed various models of Altra's among others.  You might want to check him out.

As far as the narrow toe box goes, shoe manufacturers find that it makes their shoes look cooler and more aerodynamic, and in turn they sell better despite the fact that they could seriously damage your feet.
