Blendtec - Total Home vs Xpress

I'm looking to buy a blendtec blender very soon, but I'm uncertain whether to go for the Total Home or Xpress model. The Home is £400 and the Xpress is only £320.
Is it worth spending the extra £80 to get the Home? It sounds like a better model...but does anyone have any experience with either?
Thanks folks..

I bought a blendtec xpress last year and whilst it was very powerful, I wasnt that impressed. It struggled with frozen fruit (i wanted to make ice-cream), and it didnt break some fibres down as much as ive seen Vitamixes. I also didnt like the cleaning set-up. You can't remove the bottom of the blender to clean, which i dont think is very hygienic. I never buy fixed bottom blenders. I was very impressed with the blendtec promotional videos but I wouldnt recommend one. I sold mine on ebay in the end as I decided that whilst it was still good as far as blenders go, I decided I preferred not to blend.

I have seen Vitamixes before, and they are pretty impressive. but I couldnt recommend one as I dont own one and probably never will as I dont blend much.

I have a cheap Kenwood blender at work (approx. £20 reduced..it has a super-thick glass jug instead of a plastic one, which I love, its a 2.5ltr jug and it blends great) and a little kenwood mini at home, for about £14. I'm more than happy with both for what I use them for and don't really think expensive blenders are worth it.

    Take care

  • Holi I thought you might want to see this:

    http://www.hacres.com/library/videos/yes-you-can/dueling-blenders

It shows the blenders, although it doesn't show a huge 'blend-off' so to speak, but you can see them working.
  • I just found a blendtec comparrison chart...although folk are still debating on vitamix versus blendtec. I already decided to give ole blendtec a chance.

It seems that Home and Xpress are pretty darn simelar. Xpress being more quiet, and not having the option of the 4 inch blade jar. Somewhere else I read that the Home was lighter and with a larger jar (1.9L as opposed to 1.5L for the Xpress.) Here it says they are the same.
Looking at the control pad of both, it looks as though the Home has more manual controls too...although this comparison chart does not mention any whatsoever.
    So, I'm still hmming...
  • did i not already have a vita, I'd be scrutinizing this lawn-mower masquerading as a blender:

    • I am not sure about the colour indicative of oxidation, because the 3 carafes look to have different colours, one is a bit darker than the other, and so on, aren't they?
    • Thanks for posting these videos.
We have a 2-year old Blendtec that we use every day, with great results. But now I want to get that larger carafe.
      • It does look rather stunning... I am lured in too. I guess in that case, the way to go is with Home.
To folk with a blendtec - does it have manual controls?
        • mine has 10 speeds. You press the up and down buttons to cycle through the manual speeds.
    • I bought the larger BPA free carafe a few months ago for my Blendtec, and it is like having a new more powerful blender. I would highly recommend getting the larger carafe if you are buying the Blendtec. Just like in the video, I have never needed a plunger when using the large Blendtec carafe. Unlike my Vitamix, where I would often need it to get things to blend, unless I was using some liquid or a lot of high water content fruits.
As I said before, I use my Blendtec 3-4 times a day, while my Vitamix collects dust.
