From plants. They have plenty.

2. From plants. We actually don't need as much as most people think.

Slightly Annoyed Answers (around mid-meal when people have begun to stare at my plate:)

1. The same place gorillas and elephants get theirs.

2. From eggplant. It's part egg.

Pure Sarcasm (after the meal when people start to "teach" me why being a vegan is wrong:)

1. I lick cows.

2. I don't get any protein. Is that bad?! What have you heard?! Am I GOING TO DIE?!?!!?!!?!?

So, last night, my boyfriend and I decided to order sushi pretty late at night. We'd been to a wedding earlier that day, and though I brought fruit and a fruit smoothie with me, I still wasn't able to eat enough (because heavens forbid there be vegan food at a wedding! =( ). I thought that combo of brown and white rice, raw veggies, and raw fruit would do the trick, in terms of getting me some more calories so I didn't completely bonk out the following day, and could sleep soundly. I would have just gone for straight-up fruit, but my stomach wouldn't have been able to accommodate the volume of fruity calories I'd need.

The only place in town that has a nice variety of vegan sushi is usually really good, and I have no problems with it on the rare occasions I decide to get it. Not so much this time! I ordered about $40 worth of sushi (I was a HUNGRY human!), and was very excited when it came! But the second I bit into a piece, I realized the rice was salted! I think this is because the sushi chefs dipped their hands in salt water, instead of the plain water they usually use, to keep the sushi rice from sticking to their skin, which resulted in a slight salty sushi roll. I was hungry, and didn't want to waste the food, so I just decided to eat it, anyway. I figured I'd be a bit bloated in the morning, since I was eating late, and the food was salted. I made sure to drink about three cups of water before going to bed, so I could offset some of the bloat. I thought the raw fruits and veggies in the rolls would help take care of me, too.

I awakened today feeling AWFUL. My throat was dry, and my head felt as though it were full of cotton balls. I immediately drank a litre and a half of water, before practicing yoga. During my practice, I could FEEL how dried out my muscles were, and how much my skin had swelled. My practice worked on opening my hips, which brings up a lot of stuck emotional energy and unresolved issues -- translation: I started crying towards the end of my practice! I know it's because I was/am anxious about the salt's effect on my body. In the grand scheme of things, it's better for me than fatty food, but I am still upset, because I love how I usually feel on this diet, and I know that salt messed that up. I also can't help but feel guilty for not just trashing the sushi, and going to bed hungry. I know I shouldn't feel guilty, but I hate hurting my body, even if it's totally unintentionally. I am very much looking forward to the whole, beautiful watermelon I am going to eat today, as well as a bunch of delicious, perfect champagne mangos, and at least one banana-romaine smoothie! =) Also, I am seeing Joss Whedon's 'Much Ado About Nothing' today, and I am really excited! Whedon's usually credited as a very feminist director, but there are actually a lot of misogynistic issues with his works that don't get properly addressed, and I am looking forward to seeing if he puts those issues into his telling of 'Much Ado', or amplifies them as they were present in the original work.

I'll leave you all with this quote, which is especially pertinent for myself today:

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.” — Eckhart Tolle

Hi everyone! :)

I'm 24 years old and I live in Sweden. I'm really exited to be a part of your community!

I became a vegetarian when I was 22 and I became a vegan in April this year. I became a vegan for animal rights reasons, but recently I have taken an interest in the health aspect of veganism. That led me to raw veganism, the HCLF raw vegan diet and this forum.

I'm bipolar (manic depressive) and I was diagnosed in 2011. I have tried a few different mood stabilizers and right now I'm on lithium. Due to this medication I have to include some salt in my diet. If I do not do that I might get poisoned and die. A completely salt free diet is not an option but I want to eat as little salt as possible. It's a shame that I can't go salt free, but I don't function properly without lithium ...

Right now I eat a mostly raw diet whit some salt included. I eat a lot of fruit, sprouts (during my last hypomania I got obsessed with sprouts and sprouted excessively :)) and vegetables. I'm trying out different things due to the fact that I'm new to raw food.

Some questions: anyone here that's on lithium? Anyone here that's bipolar or suffer from severe depression? How do you manage to stay raw when you are depressed/suicidal? When I'm depressed/suicidal I refuse to eat and then I end up binging on bread later :(

Here are some less depressing facts about me: I have a bachelors degree in psychology, I love to write, I love music and I'm engaged to a wonderful person (who's also a vegan)! :)

Thanks for reading! :)
