Hi everyone!

I noticed this has been posted before but it's been years, and I would love to have a current discussion about it - I am VERY new to this lifestyle, and I already have roadblocks because my husband and sons eat meat and have made it VERY clear to me that they will not change. I pray my health and behavior changes will hopefully bring them over there, but right now, I'm focusing on caring for me. That being said...

I seem to go into a mild Anaphylaxis (tongue swelling, itchy throat and ears, etc) whenever I eat bananas or any pitted fruit (peaches, cherries, dates, plums, etc...) This is harsh for me because I LOVE fruit and I am wondering if my allergy is just simply from decades of poor health and eating, along with all the crap they add in foods these days. Can an allergy like this be reversed? I would love to hear stories about this because I'm not going down without a fight. I WANT to eat these fruits....

I am also throwing up a disclaimer right now that anyone commenting on this is not a doctor, nor is giving any information on cures. I am desperate to eat healthier, and I feel freaking defeated whenever I try to eat this fruit. :(

Thanks in advance! :D

Bridget

OKAY THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF A READ, BUT I TRIED TO KEEP IT AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE! GO AT IT:

Foods I react to:

apple, appricot, cheery, kiwi, nectarine, peach, pear, plum, prune, anise, beans, caraway, carrot, celery, coriander, cumin, dill, fennel, green pepper, lentils, pasrley, parsnips, peanut, peas, potatoe, tomatoe, almond, hazelnut, walnut, sunflower, melon, orance, watermelon, canteloupoe, honeydew, pineapple, papaya, mango, cucumber, zuchini, collards ( I am sure there is more but this is the list they gave)

So I have been diagnosed with oral allergy syndrome- a case where due to the outdoor allergies ( grass , mugwort, ragweed , birch & cats/dustmites)...I react also to a protein of fruits that mimic these main allergies..and end up with what looks like acne/hives all over my neck-jaw-mouth-cheeks, and get a swollen tight throat, and sometimes depending on the fruit/veggie red flushed face. --> it's nice to know I was not crazy and imagining all this, as I honestly thoguht i had an allergy to everything...and well now this explains a lot, but its also really sad & frustrating for me...as

1) I spend almost all my free time in nature/all my passions revolve around nature...so being allergic to this...well its beyond devastating.

2) I cannot understand how them most pure things on thisplanet my body is rejecting ( apart from the idea that its severely damaged inside and chose to punish me in the sense of not wanting the healthiest foods to cure itself)

I also..on top of this have PCOS ( the thin/normal weight version..not overweight) + had severed psoriasis I developped and cured once I cut out dairy. And have IBS with certain foods I notice.... ( strangely enough not pure pasta/ plain yukon gold potatoes.. if they are the base in my diet + dates)...So my body is just really messed up and sensitive to A LOT.

this goes on to the next point which many of you will have something to say for sure about:

the only way I have ' improved/healed' my symptoms of the acne/rash/pcos/swelling was ONCE in my life...this past year when I avoided all foods on my allergy list ( this was before I even knew what kindo f allergy I had), and would only strictly eat - my eyes looked clearer, my hair was getting thicker again:

Brown korean sticky rice ( glutinous one)

steamed tender spinach

a little bit of garlic, and occasional thyme, occasional seaweed, randomly some red pepper steamed and - yes this is bad I know...but I took Cod Liver Fermented Oil from green pastures...and noticed, and others around me also...a whole big improvement in the way I looked..as long as I had avoided the other foods on my list.

and a sliver of wild fish (ie. sardines, black cod) twice a week steamed ( size of my thumb ) : the reason i resorted to fish after being vegetarian my whole life almost...( without dairy..but cheese yes on special occasion only after 16 years old:I am 21 now) , was because I wanted to take b-12 pills, but would always no matter what kind I tried get huge rashes all over my body/face...and on top of the fruit rashes..I really looked like some disease walking. I also

and occasionally vitamin D3, though I tried to stay away from synthetic vitamins ( though cod liver many will argue is synthetic in a sense..)

- I never got sick while eating this way ether

However, the reason I stopped this and am dealing with the symptoms, because I just cannot come to accept that I can eat such a limited number of foods and be fine...and never in my life be able to come near the 'purest' things on this planet.

I have a really messed up background of food eating...no one in my family has these problems...only me-meanwhile I always thought I was the healthiest due to my eating style...what a joke! Now I am paying big time, and really would love help/ guidance from people with experience or know actual first handedly people who have perhaps cured their PCOS + Oral Allergies with this lifestyle....I have not really found information.

If you recommend any books too?

I heard about water fasting..I would love to do this if I can alone...with a friend/family around me to help me around...if you know that can be done/safe? Because I really do not have thousands of dollars to be spending on a fasting retreat..if I could I would...I am already on governmentloans during my school and barely have money to buy food let alone...do that fasting.

I really want to heal myself, get rid of this..heal my gut, heal my IBS, cure my PCOS...get a period back ( though people say if I dont have one its natural...but having cysts on my ovaries I do not see as natural) never get rashes again... but I am in a rut. My sister who is a doctor...not to hate.. but she is the most modern style doctor there is...really is no help apart form doing what I already did...avoiding the foods ( good success...but sucky life, mind you I didn't mind eating brown sticky rice everyday, every meal as I loved it... but hard to travel or do anything...)

So if you think there is any advice / way of life I can go about to not get these symptoms, while still being able to live a life I love : rock climbing, camping, traveling, not relying on cooked /dehydated foods...unless dried fruits I guess count?

All my kindest regards

xx

Hi everyone!

Someone really near to me suffers from fructose malabsorption...

Obviously this is a big problem, since she enjoys eating fruits, veggies and other things that contain fructose (so most things that contain sugar), but it causes sickness so she decided to go on a diet which basically takes all these foods out completely and therefore does not really offer a 'cure'..

I suppose longterm a 'cure' to this problem rather than just fighting the symptoms would be by far more desirable and since the high-carb vegan diet seems to be the cure to everything I wanted to introduce this to her. I guess what causes the problem of fructose malabsorption is not the fructose itself, but the combination with 'non-clean' foods (meaning animal products, high-fat foods and maybe even cooked foods(?!) and non-organic (?!)).

So my first question is how should 'curing fructose malabsorption' be approached? So which dietary recommendations do you have? (I think going raw is no option at the moment (stressful student life, lack of money, very small amount of high quality raw food in scotland); also she's not a banana fan (probably too many unripe bananas^^).. )

My second question is how should I convey this idea to her? (At the moment she is not vegan/vegetarian at all and asks me where I get my protein (to give you an idea of her perspective). However I can't find ANY literature, not even a youtube video supporting the idea of approaching fructose malabsorption this way. She's not naive so I don't think a post in some forum would convince her(no offence). So literature would be the best thing and if you even if you only know a single chapter or one excerpt of a book that addresses this problem please let me know!

I appreciate your potential answers! This would be a great help!

Have a great day and thank you very much!

Leon

Hi friends!

So I've been noticing that when I take a Doctor's Best FullyActive B12 capsule (methyl) with breakfast, I either don't feel it at all and get sleepy at various parts of the day (usually after I eat), or I feel it WAY too much to the point of paranoia. I don't know if this new-gained energy from it is something to get used to, but it almost feels a little too giddy/jittery for me. I have to anxiously talk myself out of it because I don't know if I'm making this up in my head! Is this normal? Overall, though, I do feel more focused taking it versus not taking it. I take 1500 mcg every day, but if I felt too jittery the day before, I'll take half. If I still feel tired after my meal, I'll take another half or full one.

Its effects are quite inconsistent with me. I also itch all over my body, including my scalp, and my bug bites (I live in Hawaii) flare up quite a bit. Now that I think about it, I don't even know if most of them are bug bites, or bumps caused by the B12.

Can you tell, I'm a bit of a hypochondriac...?

Any insight?

Thank you!

-itchy <3

I have tried to do diets in the past, but have never committed to any, mainly because of my allergies. I want to become raw vegan to help with my weight loss, eczema/dry skin, autoimmune problems, and mental clarity.

I am coming from a vegetarian lifestyle, but would like to transition to raw vegan; however I am allergic to a lot of things, including the following:

nuts (especially peanuts, others are fine if roasted/cooked, and not allergic to raw cashews)

sesame seeds

raw spinach

cantaloupe

honeydew melon

kiwi

lychee

eggplant

mangoes (some seasons I am more allergic to mangoes than others)

dates (I can only eat them if they are really really mushy, which is usually only a few in the box)

BANANAS - I can only eat bananas if they are not completely ripened. I thought it would be okay to consume not completely ripened bananas, but I hear this a big no no

Okay, so that's most of them and now I'm not sure what to do. Should I find a banana alternative? Maybe apples or pears or oranges? Or should I just continue to eat not ripened bananas? For reference, if there are more than a few spots on them, I can't eat them.

*Also to be completely clear, I don't have a full blown allergy for all of these foods, except for peanuts and sesame seeds. The rest I just have oral allergy syndrome, which is when your mouth/tongue/throat become very itchy. Sometimes you get itchy skin and acne too the next day.

Any suggestions whatsoever are greatly appreciated...THANK YOU!

So I have had pretty intense seasonal allergies for the last 10 years. I am absolutely miserable during spring every year and it’s almost debilitating. It’s always been frustrating to me because I’ve been a vegetarian for 10 years and a vegan for various portions of that and I’d always heard that going vegetarian or vegan was supposed to make allergy symptoms less severe.

I had the opposite happen. Mine STARTED when I became vegetarian and got WORSE when I went vegan. I’ve been trying to figure this out for years and suddenly, 2 weeks ago, it just clicked.

I became a vegetarian when I was 12. I really had no idea what to eat as a vegetarian and my parents were not supportive at all so I ended up resorting to eating the only thing I could get my hands on: potatoes. I literally ate nothing but potatoes for months on end. I ate baked potatoes, I made potato fries, potato sandwiches on potato bread.. And that really was it. This was the first year that I got seasonal allergies and since then I've continued to eat potatoes as a staple in my diet a minimum of 2 or 3 times a week.

I never put the two together until two weeks ago and then it just clicked. I decided to see what would happen if I eliminated them. After just 3 days, my allergies got really light and then, after a week, they stopped completely. I’m literally not sneezing or sniffling at all.

I’ve also noticed a BUNCH of other things. No bloating any more, no gas (which had been a HUGE problem for the past year), no more acne popping up every day. When I started 811, my skin started breaking out like crazy and I couldn’t figure out why. Now I’m realizing that it was because I had started eating 5 or 6 potatoes for dinner every night.

The biggest thing, though? I’ve had huge problems with my breathing for years. I always felt like I was breathing through a straw and it’s always been very, very difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep at night because I had such a hard time getting enough air. My nose is broken and my septum is really deviated so I’ve always chalked it up to that. Apparently not. Two weeks after cutting out all potatoes and I can actually breathe without any strain at all. I have no real explanation for this except that maybe my body and my airways were just really inflamed from the potatoes? Whatever happened, it feels incredible.

I’m so excited and just wanted to share this in hope that it might benefit someone. I don’t want anyone to think that potatoes are bad because I apparently have an allergy and I don’t think most people have a problem with them. What I want to get across Is that, if you’re struggling with something, try thinking back to what your diet and lifestyle was like when it started. I would have NEVER thought that potatoes might be the problem for me and I’m feeling a million times better. Somewhat disappointed because I seriously LOVED my potato meals at night, but I'll gladly stick to rice if I get to be able to breathe and enjoy spring :)

This is yet another acne topic, I know there is a lot, but still I couldn't find a good answer how to get rid of this really annoying thing.

I have been following 80/10/10 (99% raw) for almost 1.5 years. Still I am struggling with acne, but now I know what is the issue and how to solve it.

First of all when I started 811, my skin on my whole body improved a lot in general. It is not dry or oily anymore. But since I am eating mostly raw the acne issue got worse. I was patient for a long time because people said that was just detox, but after a year I was a bit suspicious. I tried to sleep more, drink more, eat more, exercise more, pick my face no more etc. all the useless advice, but nothing helped at all. I believe if someone has acne for a long time then these common believes of cause of acne just don't apply. Or people don't know what an acne is. So I was pissed off.

But, there was one good advice: banana island. I went on a two week banana island almost 3 months ago and surprise, after a couple days I noticed that no new acne was developing. At the end of the second week, I was acne free. So, at last I realized the cause of acne is food sensitivity or allergy. At least in my case, but it must be the most common cause. In fact I suspected that I might be allergic to oranges. I had been drinking 1L orange juice every single day for a year. I stopped and acne disappeared.

So, I decided to carefully bring the fruits and vegetables back to my meals. I started with pineapples. I ate two one day and the next morning BAMMM! Two big fat acne on the side of my nose just below my eyes to make it super visible for everyone. I dumped the third pineapple and fell back to bananas. Two weeks had to pass till the acne mostly disappeared. So I started to add vegetables, dates, durian, papaya. They worked nicely. Once I made a topping for my salad using lemon, and received some smaller acne-like spots. So I dropped lemons too. I was celebrating a two week period of clear face when I bought apples and ate two. Carefully, just two. Next morning, BAMMM. Three gigantic acne grew on my face and till evening 3 other smaller appeared (they are still visible). Oh my God, I had been eating apples in my entire life, maybe this is why I rarely had clear face. Who the hell would think that apples cause acne?

So far what I know that oranges (probably all citruses), pineapples, apples surely case acne for me. Unfortunately it takes a lot of time and had to follow a poor diet (mostly bananas) to find out all the allergenic fruits. And once you find one, the penalty is a two week acne face. Not cool, but at some time I will have a fruit portfolio that doesn't cause skin issues to me. I am now jealous to people how can eat all kinds of fruits without any problem.

As a conclusion, if you have acne, I suggest this approach. Or maybe take a fruit allergy test.

Good luck.

I know she eats tomatoes in sauces and stuff which is why I never noticed that she doesn't eat plain tomatoes, but I know she doesn't eat eggplant or peppers and I always just thought it was because she didn't like them.

However, when she mentioned this to me I was like "Mom, maybe you have a nightshade sensitivity!" and of course, she was like "what the heck is a nightshade?" .... Yay 30bad for educating me:)

Anyway, I was wondering if this can be hereditary, I've never eaten eggplants or peppers because I think they taste HORRID, but I wonder if I would be sensitive to those as well. I know my mom and I already have similar food sensitivities, namely bananas & soy. I don't really plan on avoiding tomatoes until I can get tested for an allergy, but I probably won't use them as frequently as I do now, to give myself a break for awhile.

In any case, if anyone has any thoughts/insights I'd love to hear them :)

Just now, I found a video on youtube (not sure if allowed to link), a lady who goes by rawhealingpatch. She had suffered a reaction and then I read a comment saying this is normal in the early stages of raw....SO, I am just wondering if anybody can tell me, is this normal? Because today I screwed the whole diet and bought chocolate for the first time in ages for the 10 second comfort feeling.

IBS, PCOS - energy levels and FODMAPS

As an IBS and PCOS sufferer, I have absolutely no energy whatsoever. I used to run until around a year ago and I am keen to get my energy back, it's one of the most frustrating feelings because I walk down the road and feel like i'm going to faint...any tips on energy foods? Bananas are a no right now, everytime I try them i'm 9 months pregnant and could probably fuel a hot air balloon (or be mistaken for one), I follow the FODMAP diet which restricts me from certain raw foods like apples, pears, mango...I know that in time I will hopefully be able to re-introduce them but i've been trying and failing at the moment so it's mainly oranges, blueberries (when I can afford them) and leafy veg...hence no energy! I live in London and I really don't have money for exotic fruits (unless you have any freegan hotspots?). IBS is hopefully going to get better, I'm going through a bit of depression which i'm sure will go soon with some positivity. Energy would really be the most amazing gift of life at the moment. Any tips, I would be so grateful!

Paris xx

Does anyone have experience with a citrus allergy? How can you know?

With certain citrus, particularly types of navel oranges and more sour tangerines my face gets red and itchy, my lymph nodes swell, my stomach bloats, I feel tired, and my head goes sort of fuzzy-low blood pressure. Once or twice I almost blacked out after eating a lot of navel oranges.

Over the summer I broke out in hives after eating a meal of about 3 1/2 lbs nonorganic oranges. But then I also had poison ivy at the time, which I have really really bad reactions to and had to take drugs :/

Citrus allergy or just underripe fruit?

Can anyone provide a scientific answer to this:

Why is it that when we eat "normally" (SAD), we don't have any weird reactions to foods, but after eating raw for an extended period and then reintroducing cooked or seasoned foods, we get all sorts of reactions?

For instance, this past weekend I had a mildly spicy tomato sauce in my salad and within minutes broke out in hives. They began at my ears/neck and slowly spread all over my body. I've eaten much spicier foods in the past as a cooked vegetarian without any reactions whatsoever. In fact, this was the first time I've ever had an allergic reaction to food.

I also noticed while transitioning to raw that whenever I ate anything cooked, I got EXTREMELY sleepy right afterwards. Now this makes more sense to me because after the body gets used to easy digestion from fruits, anything cooked takes a lot more effort to break down, hence the slump in energy levels. But this allergic reaction to food, I just cannot properly explain. I mean, I know it's showing that certain ingredients are irritants to the body, but why do we see these types of reactions only when going raw. Essentially, I want to know what I can say to friends/family who tell me that this is a sign that my body has become WEAKER since going LFRFV....which is obviously not the case.

Or simple allergy to a fruit?

Or is it not enough fat?

Or some liver or other organs reflect on my skin?

I went to a japanese doctor the other day, and he said I'm in really good health (strong kidneys, liver, lungs, stomach, intestine, etc.). So I really don't know what could be that's causing this.

Thanks for any advise/help/insight.

Cb
