However, I live in Canada and such a lifestyle is pretyy expensive (I hope to oneday build a greenhouse when I own my own home).

So, in the meantime, I was thinking raw til 4! I look at Freelees results and I'm just in awe, and have also really struggled with other diets.

My only concern is the smoothies. I've heard of studies that say smoothies are actually not very good for you, and that eating the foods in whole food form is most ideal... But when I try to cram in as many calories without the aid of smoothies I find it very challenging...

Hoping to get advice :)

Living 80/10/10 is frustrating when you live here... i watch all these videos of the rest of you going for run's and bike rides on the beach. I would like to say I am happy for you, but I am so jealous. I want to lay in warm grass... or live near a banana tree.. i cannot even imagine how happy that would be...

anyway sorry for rant, what I want to ask, is it possible to get fresh durian in Canada? I went to an Asian supermarket and bought one... well.. i was told it was fresh.. and it cost WAY more then the frozen ones..

But the more i research durian the more it feels like it is not EVEN POSSIBLE it could be fresh.. so.. why did they rip me off so bad? it was 30 bucks for this one fruit! now im frightened to open it.. what if it isnt ripe? what if.. bahhhh....

(Side note: I have had it two days now, and the smell is increasing, and i think some of the green is turning to a more brownish..)

I will include a pic!

If anyone can offer some help or suggestions I would be so so sooooo very grateful.

Thanks

Seany Napalm (the punk RAWker)

IMG_2429.JPG

IMG_2443.JPG

Is there anyone local in the Ottawa area here who would be willing to meet up and share their journey and some inspiration? Given the snowy winter I'm not used to (it doesn't snow where I was living in NZ) I suspect it may be hard to find such quantities of organic fruits without killing my budget. I'd be keen to share bulk orders and things like that too. Look forward to the involvement in this online community on my journey.

I'd prefer not to take cyanocobalamin unless someone could explain to me how any amount of cyanide is safe to ingest. What I am also reading from multiple sources is it should be taken once a day for a week, then once a week for a month, then once every month (double doses for oral supplements for the first week). Can anyone confirm how effective this is? Appreciate it

while much of the world is acknowledging the tragedy of animal abuse, many canadians are flaunting it. we all know about the great canadian seal slaughter as well as canada's out-dated century old animal protection laws.

and now comes justin trudeau and his furred family:

Fur: Is it acceptable to wear?

now it is bad enough that a high profile politician encourages animal cruelty but politicians go where their constituents bribe them to these days, so one should not expect particularly high standards or even awareness of ethics from many of them - though there are wonderful exceptions like dennis kucinich (usa) and mac harb (canada) who honor their roll and show actual leadership.

however, what is worse is the state of the votes (at the time of writing) in answer to the question - over 80% voted that fur is acceptable. now admittedly, the sample size is still small (1200 votes), so one hopes that the cruelty-supporting faction have spent themselves and those of us who oppose oppression of sentient-beings will now make our weight be felt.

so get out to that web site and vote!

and if you feel like leaving a comment - do that too!!

in friendship,

prad

That's a question he poses in the latest instalment of the 'Revealed' documentary series, produced by 90th Parallel Productions for Global Television. NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS examines Canada's deplorable record on animal welfare and looks at the people who are fighting to bring about much-needed change. It's part of Global Television's summer documentary series 'Currents' and will be telecast on Wednesday, July 28 at 10PM.

"The issue of how we treat our animals is a visceral one and the reality of what's been happening in this country isn't easy to take," Kevin Newman said. "I believe this is a subject that doesn't get enough attention and the impetus for the 'Revealed' series with 90th Parallel is to provide a platform to illuminate issues in an incisive way. I certainly hope we've succeeded with this important topic." Newman narrates this film and co-wrote and co-produced.

Without being unnecessarily graphic, NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS exposes Quebec's notorious puppy mills and examines the mistreatment of animals raised for food. We see the gestation crates where animals spend their entire lives confined in standing positions, and overcrowded abattoir-bound trucks where livestock can go for days without food or water.

It all happens because Canada has very outdated, ineffectual laws protecting animals and when cruelty charges are made, they are often dismissed. "In Canada animals are property," explains one activist. Our legal standards protecting animals lag far behind the European Union or California, for example, where major steps have been taken to protect animals and enhance their lives.

This documentary introduces viewers to some of the people who are fighting to bring about change in this country. There's Nicole Joncas challenging the Quebec courts to close their horrific puppy mills, or Twyla Francois, armed with an undercover camera, campaigning vigorously to bring attention to the mistreatment of farm animals. We meet Canada's first lawyer to specialize in animal law, and a new, young generation dedicated to the fight to improve the lives of animals through legal and educational means. NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS is a documentary that will enlighten and enrage you. And will leave you wondering how humane our society really is.

NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS is directed by Karen Pinker. It is produced by 90th Parallel Productions Ltd in association with Canwest. Gordon Henderson is executive producer.

For further information or to request photography, please contact:

David McCaughna

416-531-1412

Hi all! I'm in my early 20's, a busy student & artist living in downtown Toronto, in Canada. What inspired me to embark on my raw journey is that I have IBS and I am looking to get rid of it!

I've spent the last week reading a few books, like You Are What You Eat and The Thrive Diet. At first I was pretty sold on this idea of dehydrators and fancy things with recipes, and even bought a bunch of stuff to make. Then after devouring like 6 pancakes with agave nectar, it occurred to me that I haven't eaten pancakes in like 2 years, and now all of a sudden because I'm reading books about healthy eating I'm eating pancakes? WTF?

Made some food from the dehydrator yesterday and I feel more disgusting than when I eat something cooked. After a yucky dehydrator meal last night and a yucky cooked meal for dinner, I'm feeling gross and the only stuff I want to eat is fruit!

Also - being LFRV I don't have to worry about food combining because veggies can be eaten with anything. :D I've been food combining the past week and have noticed improvement in digestion, so I thought I might take it one step further.

I haven't read the Klein or Graham books yet, but I'm thinking of picking them up tomorrow.

Freelee I've read your thread of suggestions and they are all great! It's also encouraging to hear that I don't have to agree with any particular 'guru', and just do what feels right. With so many conflicting opinions it's hard to know who to believe sometimes.

What should I expect? I keep hearing about detox, I just want to be prepared. How did you feel when you started being more lfrv?

Thanks all! x0

(possibly this activity may prove to be helpful for others too).i will send him the link to this discussion, so he can keep himself updated.thanks in advance to anyone who can make some suggestions!in friendship, prad
