For anyone who’s looked into and reasearched the health effects of different omega-6 containing vegetable oils, you’ll quickly find that there’s a strong connection between all of them and the major degenerative diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, alzheimer’s and even obesity.

Here are a couple of excerpts from the full text studies that I found particularily interesting:

On obesity from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23249760:

‘Recent studies have emphasized the proadipogenic properties of the omega-6 PUFA, and provided evidence that rodents fed on diets with omega-6 PUFA contents similar to the typical US diet (6–8% energy) have an increased fat mass. Importantly, recent studies have shown that perinatal exposure to a high omega-6 PUFA diet results in a progressive accumulation of body fat across generations.’

On chronic disease from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18408140:

‘Excessive amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and a very high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today’s Western diets, promote the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases...’

On chronic disease from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22570770:

‘...high intake of n-6 PUFA, along with low intakes of n-3 PUFA, shifts the physiological state to one that is proinflammatory and prothrombotic with increases in vasospasm, vasoconstriction, and blood viscosity and the development of diseases associated with these conditions.’

So if you HAVE to cook with oil (which I don’ t recommend) using something like MCT oil or adding olive oil to salad might be less harmful compared to n-6 oils. Even then, fats in general, also those in olive oil have been connected to diabetes and MCT oil/coconut oil has some pretty potent cholesterol raising effects.

This is certainly common knowledge around here but I find that researching these connections on my own gives me a more complete understanding rather than just taking somebody’s word for it. I find it’s also easier to stay on a diet and avoid the harmful foods if you are constantly reading studies and seeing evidence everywhere on their negative effects yourself.

If you have more reaserch to add, I’d appreciate it.

The overall analysis among cross-sectional studies reported significant reduced levels of body mass index, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and glucose levels in vegetarians and vegans versus omnivores. With regard to prospective cohort studies, the analysis showed a significant reduced risk of incidence and/or mortality from ischemic heart disease (RR 0.75; 95% CI, 0.68 to 0.82) and incidence of total cancer (RR 0.92; 95% CI 0.87 to 0.98) but not of total cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, all-cause mortality and mortality from cancer. No significant association was evidenced when specific types of cancer were analyzed. The analysis conducted among vegans reported significant association with the risk of incidence from total cancer (RR 0.85; 95% CI, 0.75 to 0.95), despite obtained only in a limited number of studies.

CONCLUSIONS:

This comprehensive meta-analysis reports a significant protective effect of a vegetarian diet versus the incidence and/or mortality from ischemic heart disease (-25%) and incidence from total cancer (-8%). Vegan diet conferred a significant reduced risk (-15%) of incidence from total cancer.

Why am I posting this? Well, it's the first systematic review of vegan studies. And -15% of total cancer incidence is, in Medicine, a total kickass result, no drug could compare. I think the medical world will slowly catch up with the fact that veganism truly is the way forward to prevent a ton of illness. Glad this was published and I hope we get more!

xM

OKAY THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF A READ, BUT I TRIED TO KEEP IT AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE! GO AT IT:

Foods I react to:

apple, appricot, cheery, kiwi, nectarine, peach, pear, plum, prune, anise, beans, caraway, carrot, celery, coriander, cumin, dill, fennel, green pepper, lentils, pasrley, parsnips, peanut, peas, potatoe, tomatoe, almond, hazelnut, walnut, sunflower, melon, orance, watermelon, canteloupoe, honeydew, pineapple, papaya, mango, cucumber, zuchini, collards ( I am sure there is more but this is the list they gave)

So I have been diagnosed with oral allergy syndrome- a case where due to the outdoor allergies ( grass , mugwort, ragweed , birch & cats/dustmites)...I react also to a protein of fruits that mimic these main allergies..and end up with what looks like acne/hives all over my neck-jaw-mouth-cheeks, and get a swollen tight throat, and sometimes depending on the fruit/veggie red flushed face. --> it's nice to know I was not crazy and imagining all this, as I honestly thoguht i had an allergy to everything...and well now this explains a lot, but its also really sad & frustrating for me...as

1) I spend almost all my free time in nature/all my passions revolve around nature...so being allergic to this...well its beyond devastating.

2) I cannot understand how them most pure things on thisplanet my body is rejecting ( apart from the idea that its severely damaged inside and chose to punish me in the sense of not wanting the healthiest foods to cure itself)

I also..on top of this have PCOS ( the thin/normal weight version..not overweight) + had severed psoriasis I developped and cured once I cut out dairy. And have IBS with certain foods I notice.... ( strangely enough not pure pasta/ plain yukon gold potatoes.. if they are the base in my diet + dates)...So my body is just really messed up and sensitive to A LOT.

this goes on to the next point which many of you will have something to say for sure about:

the only way I have ' improved/healed' my symptoms of the acne/rash/pcos/swelling was ONCE in my life...this past year when I avoided all foods on my allergy list ( this was before I even knew what kindo f allergy I had), and would only strictly eat - my eyes looked clearer, my hair was getting thicker again:

Brown korean sticky rice ( glutinous one)

steamed tender spinach

a little bit of garlic, and occasional thyme, occasional seaweed, randomly some red pepper steamed and - yes this is bad I know...but I took Cod Liver Fermented Oil from green pastures...and noticed, and others around me also...a whole big improvement in the way I looked..as long as I had avoided the other foods on my list.

and a sliver of wild fish (ie. sardines, black cod) twice a week steamed ( size of my thumb ) : the reason i resorted to fish after being vegetarian my whole life almost...( without dairy..but cheese yes on special occasion only after 16 years old:I am 21 now) , was because I wanted to take b-12 pills, but would always no matter what kind I tried get huge rashes all over my body/face...and on top of the fruit rashes..I really looked like some disease walking. I also

and occasionally vitamin D3, though I tried to stay away from synthetic vitamins ( though cod liver many will argue is synthetic in a sense..)

- I never got sick while eating this way ether

However, the reason I stopped this and am dealing with the symptoms, because I just cannot come to accept that I can eat such a limited number of foods and be fine...and never in my life be able to come near the 'purest' things on this planet.

I have a really messed up background of food eating...no one in my family has these problems...only me-meanwhile I always thought I was the healthiest due to my eating style...what a joke! Now I am paying big time, and really would love help/ guidance from people with experience or know actual first handedly people who have perhaps cured their PCOS + Oral Allergies with this lifestyle....I have not really found information.

If you recommend any books too?

I heard about water fasting..I would love to do this if I can alone...with a friend/family around me to help me around...if you know that can be done/safe? Because I really do not have thousands of dollars to be spending on a fasting retreat..if I could I would...I am already on governmentloans during my school and barely have money to buy food let alone...do that fasting.

I really want to heal myself, get rid of this..heal my gut, heal my IBS, cure my PCOS...get a period back ( though people say if I dont have one its natural...but having cysts on my ovaries I do not see as natural) never get rashes again... but I am in a rut. My sister who is a doctor...not to hate.. but she is the most modern style doctor there is...really is no help apart form doing what I already did...avoiding the foods ( good success...but sucky life, mind you I didn't mind eating brown sticky rice everyday, every meal as I loved it... but hard to travel or do anything...)

So if you think there is any advice / way of life I can go about to not get these symptoms, while still being able to live a life I love : rock climbing, camping, traveling, not relying on cooked /dehydated foods...unless dried fruits I guess count?

All my kindest regards

xx

Can't eat a lot of veg.

I have a VERY restricted diet, even for a raw vegan. And it drives me NUTS. Even this list is tentative as I become more in-tune. I'm not a hypochondriac, I will drink water out of a hose, my symptoms just make it impossible for me to ignore when something is wrong. Thus, I don't have a lot of variety to choose from.

I am trying to heal my condition by eating a low inflamation diet. But I have been eliminating foods, starting with cooked eight months ago, for two years and it feels like I am going nowhere. I thought grapes and mangos were okay, and have recently realized that I cant mono them like I want to. Cross another thing I thought was a staple off my list.

So my question is two fold:

1) have any of you experienced this if so how are you healing, what steps did you take to heal?

2) I am considering finding a leaky gut familiar naturopath to give me additional ideas to make this heal. A lot of people on curezone believe this is parasite driven, that Manuka honey, bone broth, aloe Vera, slippery elm bark, L glutamate, and so on are aids to health. I'm going to keep it vegan, no bone broth. I am open to supplements though, even though I am a supplement minimalist. And I feel a naturopath can aid with this.
But most naturopaths aren't vegan or even think low fat diets aren't optimal, though they could potentially help me with my condition further.
Does it make sense to go with a naturopath that doesn't align with me nutritionally, or even go to one at all? And if not, what do you think I should do?

Thanks for making it all the way down here :)

Cheers,
Chelsie

image.jpg

image.jpg

At my last naturopathic appointment I was told we need to stabilize things in 6 months to a year, at the latest. I have MCAD (mast cell activation disease), which is causing a host of symptoms and sensitivities including IBS, leaky gut, being sensitive most foods and chemicals, hot air, hot water, stress, some forms of excercise, histamine intolerance, salicylate sensitivity, allergies etc. Im only 22 and have been eating loads of veggies for years, rarely eating meat and no rancid oils or anything. I went paleo for a while, anti candida diet, vegetarian, sugar free etc. Its all just gotten worse. Ive tried almost every natural supplement out there and react to most.

To get back to my question, I need some advice on where to start? There are only a few fruits that I can eat without reacting: Bananas, Mangos, and peeled purreed golden delicious apples, and a few dates when blended with bananas or mangos.

I have a hard time with raw veggies unless juiced.

Is there an anti inflammatory protocol for those of us with these issues? I go back and forth between thinking maybe i should try banana island, then thinking maybe it would be better for my body to ease into it more slowly?

If anyone has any advice I would SO appreciate the help :)

How wonderful to find a community of people dedicated to living in true health!

I just posted this in the wrong section - I think it belongs here instead so I moved it over...

I was born with kidney disease. It's genetic. My dad had it and he was the recipient of a transplant but he died from a heart attack. That being said though he did not live the healthiest lifestyle.

I'm 23 years old and I have only around 20% function left. Doctors keep warning me I will need dialysis soon but I just do not accept that.

This is why I have been trying to do this high carb/mostly raw diet - I figure if I'm eating the food we are designed to eat it will be less stress to my body and therefore less toxins for my kidneys to remove.

Then enters potassium: If kidneys don't function well they have trouble getting rid of excess potassium. My blood tests recently were slightly high. Nothing close to needing treatment, but still high enough to cause my doctor to be concerned and told me to cut it back in my diet. (It was around 5.4 - should be 5 at the most)

It does freak me out a bit because if you have too much potassium in the blood you can be at risk of a heart attack and I asked me doctor and she said that sometimes there can really be no symptoms to warn you that it's high.

So all of this being said:

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO EAT?

I rely on bananas and dates to get my calories up. I've been playing around with cronometer adding other fruits instead and I still end up with over 6000mg of potassium a day no matter what to get my needed 2000-2500 cals a day. & That's if I don't have a raw dinner and I have white rice instead (low potassium).

ALL fruits contain potassium - and to get enough calories from any fruits it's going to be high no matter what. Even if I don't have bananas etc.

I do not trust the kidney specialist dietician because she basically tells me to eat no more than half a banana a day but it's totally okay to eat lots of red meat for iron because it's easiest for our bodies to absorb in that form (BS!) & that I should be adding butter and oils to all my food to keep my calories up. What a load of crap. The fact that this is the advice that our health system is dishing out is utterly appalling.

Anyway I am really upset. I want this lifestyle to help me not harm me. I hear so many great stories of people healing themselves naturally. Why not me? Why does this disease have to be different.

I don't know what to do.

Does anyone have ANY experience in this?

I am seeing people get stuck on Robert Lustig's (and most nutritionists and other chemists') analysis of sugar as being the cause of obesity and diabetes and 'turning into fat.'

Clearly, this kind of thinking is misled. I think by now we have all seen many lay people (including myself!) countering Lustig's argument by saying 'I eat lots of sugar and I'm lean'.

However, this isn't enough for some people, who see Lustig's fancy presentations and molecular-level explanations of exactly how sugar is metabolized, and they just can't see it any other way, regardless of the whole-human-organism-level results.

So I have been wondering... Where is the chemistry that proves Lustig wrong? We have large quantities of anecdotal evidence that shows sugar doesn't turn to fat (30bad is a testimony to that) and we have dr barnard showing that people reverse diabetes on high carb diets, and dr mcdougall showing that people prevent heart disease on high carb diets... but what about someone showing the chemistry of why sugar does not in fact turn to fat? where is the chemistry that shows fructose is good for you? is there someone out there debunking lustig with actual chemical, molecular evidence that his theories are wrong?

Obviously I'm aware that sugar is good for me. But I need this information to help family members who are stuck in this line of thinking. Anything helps.

Hi everyone. My parents have a friend who has kidney disease, lupus, chronic anemia and a lot of allergies. She specifically sought us (my sister and me) out to ask us some questions, as raw vegans. She cannot eat nuts, and she is allergic to nightshades and squash, and is severely gluten intolerant. She can only eat bananas every other day because of her kidney disease. She eats a diet high in fruits and veggies and she still eats turkey and chicken, because she's been told she needs some meat for her anemia. she doesn't eat dairy. so basically she is totally ready to commit, she just wants help transitioning because all the other raw vegan things she's seen are loaded with nuts and so forth. i'm really excited to help her out and i'm confident we can. I was wondering if you guys could give me some personal testimonials of healing from these symptoms, and some advice you could give her as someone who has been through it and is thriving. also, any resources you could give me for her would be fantastic. thank you so much!

First I just want to thank everybody for all the response and help I got from the post about Dr Graham versus Dr McDougal, where I shared how much I have suffered with migraines. When I started this lifestyle a lot of people said that 30bananasaday was not a nice site with nice people. OMG I have never been any where on line where people give more of their energy and time to help others. Amazing banana people here. THANK U!

Im still not 100% raw in winter, (I live in Denamrk, and I m too cold if I go 100% raw. i know a lot of you will say that thats not so, but that is my experince) where I have patatoe soup with a butternut squasch or pumpkin ect at night and lots of veggies like selleri and spinach.

Well I found out that it wasnt the cooked low fat food or the riped bananas giving me migraines. It was migraine medicin.

When I get a migraine I can take a triptan (migraine medicin) and the migraine is normally gone within 30 minutes. I still dont feel on top of my game after the medicin kicks in, but the knife through my head and the vomiting stops. There is no pain killers in Triptans. They work specific on getting the bloodvessels back to normal size in the head - and when that happens the migraines head pains go away.

But there is a problem. If you take them more than twice a week you risk getting rebound headaches. For me that meant going for 6 years waiking up with a migraine every morning at five. Now, if you right now think: "how on earth could it take her 6 years to find out that the medicin was the problem?" I know!

Theese are not excuses but explanations.

I grew up with a very smart, goodlooking, very succesfull mother and a father who was a huge drinker. I dont mean he was drinking sometimes. I Mean Alcoholic with a big A. The last 11 year of his life he ended up in a nursing home not able to talk or move. So even though I know with my intellect that I would never end up like that, in my cell memory from childhood I had the limiting belief (still working on that one) that either I had to be perfect (all A student. Yes I cant spell in english perfect, but today I dont care. You try to write in your second lauguage) or I would die. Be like your mom or dad - thats the black and white choice. That means I have an inner "performance - have to be perfect - monster" inside who likes to run the show. Think about it. Im a public speaker waiking up for 6 year with a migraine having two chioces. 1. Take a tritan and go and do your job as a speaker, coach, writer with deadlines and being a wife and mother. 2. Dont take the triptan and stay in bed with knives through your head (Oh yes child birth is nothing compered to this pain).

I did try more than 10 times to get out of the medicin but its not a one try thing and then you have succes. Im born with a migraine brain, meaning that that is my bodys weakest link. Thats whats saying hello Gitte you are out of balance here. But I have had the stregth to have succes getting off medicin with 811. Why? because even though the detox period for a few days are bad, its a lot faster for my body to detox now. I have also much more energy and great body image after loosing 8 kilos. So all in all Im just stronger and happier on 811.

Even though I have known for years to limit my medicin to less than twice a week, and I did follow that, I still got rebound headaches. Now the reason I thought it might be something I ate (like bananas or cooked low fat vegan food) was that all migraine specialists and doctors said that rebound headaches couldnt happen, if you tke triptans less than twice a week. I really wanted to believe that, and it being so hard to not take the medicin, i tried the "easy" way out, which was thinking "It must be bananas or something I eat." Also because I have known for years that bananas are a trigger for lots of migraine patients. But i Guess my body did reach the tipping point with the triptans. I have put that poison in my body for years and know I get the rebound headaches even if I take one a week. What I do know is ride the migraine out when its there if I can bare the pain. If its a level 10 pain on a 10 which happened last week when I had a speech to give for a huge comapany, I take 1/2 a triptan, and then I can function.

I so feel that 80/10/10 in some ways have been part of my miracle cure even though I still get migraines if Im too stressed or during period. It has gotten my focus back on natural health. That the bodys pain has an important message. That every dis-ease has a physical and emotional component to it. When I eat clean Im more mentally aware and awake. Also loosing weight feeling amazing (Other than migraine I havent even had a cold for 10 year, so I dont get sick ever) Never being hungry, never having cravings for junk food and eating unlitted calories is such a party for me. Also Durianriders tip for me when I did a podcast episode with him (find it at iTunes under enerGittes talkshow) about drinkin a liter of water, waiting 30 minutes before having breakfast. OMG! Now I drink all the water, have one date and powerwalk for 60 minutes, come home and have banana smoothie. I Feel good, la la la la la la....like I knew that I would now......la, la,la, la, la, la laaaaa... No more daily little headpains, and no more skin problems. Before my face had so many pimples I looked like a pizza with cheese.

I wanted to share my 811 story "from BIG pain to energy happiness and a little pain, with U. Lets inspire and help eachother with no judgement. People are all doing the best they can with the knowledge they have in the moment. When you know better, you do better. After I found 811, when I interviewed Alicia Grant as research for my migraine book, I know better.

So please share every experience you have with getting rid of pain being on 811.

Did you stop all medicin cold turkey (or cold banana)?

How fast did you feel better?

Did you find yourself allergic to surden fruits and veggies?

Have you done fasting to detox or has 811 been enpough?

We learn through succes stories.

I cant tell you have many time I have written in Google: How I got rid of migraines. Or No more migraines after chaning diet.

So lets make sure that all the sick people out there in google land they can find good answers in here at 30banansady.

Because: When you know better, you do better.

I appreciate You

Love

Daily enerGizer

Gitte

Ps. I have a new youtube channel Daily enerGizer where I post 365 short motivational videos a year. My old channel Gitteglad is still there, but thats mostly in danish. U also find Daily enerGizer on twitter and facebook where you are welcome to post also.

I have been a successful 80/10/10'er before. For 2 months i did well. VERY well. I ate nothing but 100% 80/10/10, by the book. A few things here and there were altered, but i did fairly well. Then i stopped one day, the convenience of cooked food got me, and i haven't yet gone back to 80/10/10.

Since switching to the "convenient" i have suffered MASSIVE health problems.
MASSIVE.

I have developed "cluster headaches" which are the most intense pain i can ever describe. Feels that my left eyeball is popping out of my head.

Getting these headaches has led me to taking MASSIVE amounts of Ibuprofen. Which has led to a stomach ulcer. The headaches combined with the stomach ulcer have started this cascading effect of vomiting on a daily basis.

You would think that having headaches (and i say headache lightly.. it feels like someone is prying my eyeball out with pliers) and an ulcer would be enough, but unfortunately i also suffer from SERIOUS gallbladder problems.

I can only eat VERY small meals, and if i don't i will get a massive gallbladder attack. Feels like i am being blown up with air in my right back side and i vomit (blood in vomit) and get SO SICK that i literally SCREAM and CRY.

I am going to the doctor this morning. NOT because i want a HUGE amount of drugs, but because i want someone else to see these things, diagnose them, and i have a starting point.

One of the main reasons i stop 80/10/10 is FRUIT FLIES, and the fact that i cannot ever even SLIGHTLY stray away from the lifestyle, or i will get massive indigestion. There was a point, where i had my bananas out (as people do) and i had about 32894723 fruit flies in my kitchen. SWARMS. Enough to coat my cabinets and make my fruit rot way faster. Which made it to where i had to freeze bananas which wasn't working for me. My blender can't handle them, it takes 25 minutes to make one smoothie in the morning before work.

ALSO, if i wanted to use a salad dressing, i would get bloated the next day and be unable to eat, mixing fruit gave me indigestion, just painful.

I need either a MENTOR, or something to help me STAY on this lifestyle LONG TERM. PLEASE HELP ME!!

I lost 20 lbs last time i did it, and managed to keep most of the weight off.

But i need to do this for my HEALTH, because i am declining FAST. <3
