I'm coming off a year of Paleo/Primal. Wasnt a very smart decision... i got severe IBS.

How do you guys get enough calories??!?!? I can eat 12-14 bananas for breakfast and be hungry 2 hours later...

i tried adding dates and now my teeth turned yellow, and hurt SOOO bad. One of my teeth actually has pieces breaking off.

i brush, floss, oil pull everything!

Also my muscle seems to be depleting. I used to be extremely cut, and imo im getting fatter, not gaining weight though. Just less muscle. abs less defined, look less vascular. I notice my hair is also falling our more frequently than normal.

I really want to do this diet! for ETHICAL, satisfaction(not have to binge on unhealthy foods), and performance reasons! What am i doing wrong here? Everyone on this forum seems to have vibrant health, while mine is deteriorating. I want to be apart of this community but not at the expense of my health. If an experienced veteran could step in and give me some guidance i'd appreciate it.

It was some time ago they have been saying it, so I wander how did it go? I have alopecia for 2 years now and haven't got my hair back when I lost it first time - about 90%. I wander how long did it take for you to see changes etc? I feel better and feel like my health is improving in a very short time (Im high carb for over 3 months now). Please share any knowledge you have - I need to keep believing :)!

P.S I didn't find any testimony from alopecian even being high carb therefore there is nothing about high carb veganism helping alopecia... but I just simply know its the key.

XXX

I really like the thought of being plant based, and I haven't experienced any big changes.... except in my hair.
I am experiencing sooo much hairloss, and it's kinda freaking me out. It's a really scary thing to just be able to pull out chunks of hair from my head. I think it really is a sign of poor health. I have thin hair to begin with, so losing a lot of hair is really upsetting me. I've been thinking about going to the doctor, but i'm scared that they will tell me to eat meat and dairy again or tell me to take hormones.

I hope someone can help me with this problem.

She has told me three times already that I have lost the glow I used to have on my skin and that my skin does not look healthy, oh- and that I have aged !! I am 26 years old.

I am just wondering , has this happened to any one else before ? Are there any vitamins or minerals I am missing in my diet ?

I live in New Delhi and so the fruits I eat is restricted to what is available and in season in this semi arid desert. Mainly Bananas, custard apples, watermelon and dates . Off and on I eat apples and pears and papaya ( just dont get good quality ones in the desert ), some times I can find raw guavas, I used to have loads of mangoes but they are out of season now.

I eat two cooked meals a day , it always consists of a big bowl of rice mixed with raw chopped carrots, cucumbers and capsicum and combine this with a lentil or bean soup.

I easily drink 6 litres of water a day.

Is it possible that I have lost the glow because of some vitamin defficiency ? Oh.. I also have lost a lot a lot of hair. MY hair started falling two years ago and just has not stoped. I am not balding anywhere but I have only half or less of the amout of hair I used to have and in some places they are now greying.

Does this ring any bels ?I would appreciate any of your advice.

Thanks

Sinka !

Hey guys!

Today is day 18 for me completely and 100% raw vegan! I've been known to be an extremist although I don't know if I would consider myself one. About two weeks ago I decided that since whatever goes on my skin is absorbed…I'm ditching everything chemical. Here's what I shunned:

Shampoo

Conditioner

Hair products

Hand creams (I use coconut oil)

Body lotion

Shower gel

Skin products/Facial products

Lip balm

Makeup

Toothpaste (I dry brush & floss)

Soap (For hands, dishes, etc EXCEPT when dealing with meat at work or canned food for my dog & cat)

So anyways, instead of using shampoo I head that you can use baking soda & water and instead of using conditioner you can use watered down apple cider vinegar for the first week. Then after that only once a week. After I month my hair is supposed to ease off the oil production and become soft and shiny. I have super long, damaged hair that has been dyed. I was wondering if anyone else has done this? My hair feels like it has a thick, heavy coating on it and I have white flecks all over like dandruff! :( Will this go away? I'm not tempted to use other products again, I just feel a little embarrassed when people notice.

Hi guys,

This is my first post on 30BAD, so I'm sorry if my question has already been covered before.

I've been HCRV since November 2012 and during this (brief) time, I've felt and seen some wonderful changes occur both to me and to my partner. This lifestyle is really wonderful and I'm finding new things to be excited about or inspired by on a regular basis.

However, I have been losing vast amounts of hair from my head. I've read that the body sometimes does this after a detoxification process, usually beginning a couple of months after the detox has happened. This would fit in perfectly with the timeline of me going 80-10-10 but those same sites suggest that the process should not last very long and hair growth should return to normal.

This shedding has been going on for months now and I'm just wondering if there's anyone else out there to whom this has happened, and any tips on how to attempt to correct it would be much appreciated, or if it is indeed generally a self-healing issue, or an adjustment period- how long did it take to return to normal?

I have a huge amount of hair so at first it was welcome, but now it's getting a little less pleasant.

Thanks, fruity peeps

x

Alright, so here's my situation.

I have thick, long, curly hair (not ringlets-all-over curly--mainly on the bottom half of my hair, since the length of it weighs down the top), and I've always used conditioner to moisturize it and to be able to untangle it without ripping lots of hair out and taking forever to do so. My hair can get VERY knotty.

I've never used shampoo much--I don't at all now--and I don't use any other beauty products besides conditioner and the occasional Dr. Bronner's, a bit of oil (some sort of blend with Argon), and mineral powder make-up. I want to decrease my product dependency and hair health by not using conditioner all together.

My question is, how? I've tried going without it for about a week now, but having such a hard time brushing my hair in the shower is quite irritating. And I don't want to make my hair more frizzy by tugging it out--I've had enough damage done from my eating disorder (when I was in treatment, SO much hair came out) and a short hair-straightening spell that I had in middle school. Is there a way for me to get all of the knots out more easily?

Any advice about natural hair care would be greatly appreciated! Tell me about your own experience. (:

Also, what do you do for your skin? I have a horrible picking problem (it's a nervous thing), even though my acne isn't very bad, and I'm constantly touching my face (which is probably the main cause of what little acne I do get). I have big pores and red spots all over. Does anyone know a good remedy to repair and renew facial skin? I feel like if my skin got better it would be easier to quit the picking habit.

Thank you in advance! (;

I've had luck of not going through any symptoms at the beginning like some people have.

However I've noticed my hair doesn't seem to be getting thicker anymore. Maybe it's getting thinner, or maybe I'm just too self-conscious about my hair. :( Another thing that's really been bothering me lately is my hair tangles easily, looks messed up/not cared for in short time, I have "frizzies" sticking/growing out, and I have split-ends but don't want to go to a hair-dresser (as they usually have no idea and because I can't stand myself with short hair).

I could really use some tips from fellow shampoo-free people. Any detox symptoms? I am getting some pressure on the bridge of my nose, the back of my head and my neck and am feeling nausea's at times. My arms and head also feel a bit 'buzzy', is the only way i can describe it.

2) What fruits/veg/nut/seeds should i be avoiding and why? I found that zucchini makes me feel sick and eating sunflower seeds the other night made me feel awful. So I decided to cut out overt fats for the first couple weeks, is that a good idea?

3) What about herbal teas? I have always loved mixing up herbal tea blends but now I'm thinking that this would not be a normal animal thing to do.. thoughts?

4) In a video by Kristina she mentioned her hair fell out initially and then grew back. Why would that happen? Just a little paranoid... And then in a video by Freelee she said she lost her period initially for 10 months. What? Why? Just doesn't seem healthy.

5) I'm having a hard time eating large quantities. I feel kind of sick after. Would it be okay to space out food or is three meals important? Advice?

Thank you!

Ruby

Im doing my second attempt with going no poo. first time I tried it I simply rinsed my hair with water, and it was a disaster ! my hair got so greasy from it that I didn't feel like leaving my apartment. and it wasn't even dirty beforehand !

so now I wanted to try out the baking soda-approach, hoping for a more gradual transition. - I don't mind my hair being a little greasy during this phase, but I don't want people to think that Im insanitary either ;)

SO today was my first day. It has been 5days since my last hair wash, although normally Ill wait 7-8 days in between washing. I wanted to break the wash-cycle a little early so that the risk of my hair turning out like last time, would be smaller.

step1 - I mixed 3tbs of baking soda w 150ml of water.

step2 - after rinsing my hair in warm water for a couple of minutes, I put the mixture in my hair and massaged it in for another cpl of minutes, and then I rinsed it out completely.

step3 - panic ? I must say that my hair feels really thick and unmanageable ! It hasn't dried yet, so idk how it will turn out, but experience tells me that when it feels like this wet, it wont improve much in its dry state.

what do you say ? do you think that I need to just stick it out, and maybe wash it everyday for a while w the baking soda until my hair adjusts ? or should I try adding lemon to the mixture maybe ? Im open to any suggestions and/or stories of experience

thanks fruities !

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of getting hair-extensions because my hair has never been able to grow past the upper-half of my back and EVERY TIME, the ends of my hair become split ends. I'd really like longer and thicker hair.

As a kid I was forced to have my hair cut really short and I always hated how I looked with it.

I'm sorry if this post is superficial and if I appear hypocritical by posting this. But I can't hide that this matter is something that's been bothering me. I have nothing against short hair - some people look very good with short hair, but I personally was always unhappy with it.

I eventually want to be completely free of shampoos/conditioners because I've been reading of successful people here who live without those things and have thicker and faster-growing hair as a result. I want to be one of those people too. I have dyed my hair for a few years now, and the result with my already quite wild hair is that it is now also dry and damaged...

A week or two ago I made an appointment to get a Keratin treatment (if you don't know what this is, it is treatment that de-frizzes hair) done at a hair salon that does ammonia free organic hair dying, but then I searched the web for Keratin treatments and what the ingredients are that make the hair so de-frizzed, and of course I bump into formaldehyde... yeah, okay, DON'T THINK SO! So I am canceling the appointment first thing tomorrow.

I do know that my hair structure by nature will never be flat and thin, so I am not going to imagine it ever will become that, but I would like to put some life back into my once healthy hair :)

Any input is very appreciated!!!

I have been washing with water each day and have used lemon twice in that time. This morning I decided to 'bite the bullet' and not wash with water as I figure that if i did that with my dogs I would expect the oil balance to be affected. So my question is for those who no longer use shampoo etc is your hair shiny and healthy looking and if yes, how long did it take to get there?
