Hey everyone!

I'm starting this discussion because I feel it is important to share what can happen and WHY if you come to this unlimited calorie/carbohydrate lifestyle after years and years worth of dieting and calorie restriction (aka metabolic damage), like myself! I came to this lifestyle in March 2012 after yo-yo dieting, calorie/carb restricting, fasting, taking stimulants and laxatives, smoking, drinking alcohol, binge/purging, and overexercising since 2006. My health was suffering severely (anorexia symptoms, digestive disorder, hormonal imbalances), so within one year of following this diet and lifestyle my weight went from an anorexic 120 lbs to a slightly overweight 185 lbs (I'm 5'11"), whilst experiencing immediate improvements in my digestion, hormones, sleep, skin, mental state, and overall health. I just published a very detailed blog post all about my experience here: http://www.nutritionbyvictoria.com/blog/why-i-initially-gained-60-lbs-on-a-high-carb-vegan-diet

I hope that you find the blog post helpful for your recovery if you are experiencing weight gain on this diet. Just know that it's NOT permanent! By sticking to the high carb low fat, unlimited calorie diet and lifestyle (sufficient sleep, water, exercise) you will recover the FASTEST, heal the QUICKEST, and experience weight loss EFFORTLESSLY once your body is ready to target the excess weight (after healing is complete). Initially, weight gain is absolutely necessary in order to turn the wheels of the healing cascade. My weight plateaued after the 1st year, and remained within 5-10 lbs of that weight gain after 2 years. After year 2, my weight started to shift downward, permanently. I've now lost a total of 30 lbs since coming to this lifestyle back in March 2012, and I'm experiencing the best health of my life!

Thank you so much for reading and feel free to leave me any comments/questions!

Victoria

2 year progress pic.png

How does the body starts to use the unnecessary fat? I was told that you need to deplete your glucose stores in order to start burning fat for fuel?

Thank you!

I was that of a typical omnivore justification, lack of knowledge and lack of realisation).

Week 1: Plan; Give up meat and eggs. Reality; weaned off meat and had 3 fried fish and chip meals over the course of the week to conquer my mental false addiction of losing hard earned muscle! No eggs!

Week 2: Continued a determination an absolute ban on meat and eggs and introduced raw meals and high volume morning (till lunch time) fruit meals (bananas & dates ;) (over the period of the first few moths I found I was eating egg ingredients in other foods / lack of awareness & unconsciously – since then to my knowledge it has been no more).
Moral justification kicked in too. This was not a conscious effort but came naturally from the start of the lifestyle. This is where I decided to no longer be a part of or contribute to the indirect harm of any animal or creature! Period!

Week 2 – 9: Just relearning what I thought I knew, improving and spreading the word! In this period I was questioning, why? Why am I not eating eggs? Why am I not eating honey? Why am I going to give up dairy? Why am I no longer going to buy or receive sheep wool products? Meat was a no brainer for me (nutritionally inadequate and harmful! and leather was just attached to that I guess as a moral cofactor to these questions, researched and quite quickly I had my reason to justify why my body and lifestyle no longer those particulars.

Week 9: No more dairy! The day had finally come! I had filled my face with the dairy products I had come to love in the wake of an INTERMISSON and, 1 Sunday early afternoon through a longing of wanting to rid this addiction, there it was! I felt repulsed by the thought of consuming anymore! During this period I never consider myself that of a vegetarian, as my act and intention was that of a vegan! I dealt with it the best way I felt I knew I would succeed!

From this a Long term goal: Raw Vegan! A 10 year allowance to undo what I have done over the past 28 years, being an average “health” consumer (thinking I was an advanced average at that) and to perfect the true entity of a true vegan! Inside, outside, for others as a whole and the completion it will bring.
From then on then on I was predominantly a high carb low fat raw vegan (HCLFRV). I lived on up to %100 fruits, leaving only minimal on an average 1 cooked meal per day (coincidently pre Raw Till 4 concept by DR & FL). I had come to a theory that eating fruits in the morning with other raw meals throughout the day and a big high carb low fat (or even high carb / high fat sporadically when I chose) cooked meal for dinner was an ideal working regime! Energy wise and fulfilment over the week I found eating 100% raw and meeting 3,000 -3,500 calories from fruit alone, just wasn’t giving me the best feeling by the end of so many consecutive days… I felt “burnt out””. So there we go…

This has been my conclusion thus far in short and I am proud to call myself “vegan”. Even though I am not one for “self-labelling” I would never refer to a friend or even previously myself as an “omnivore”, this the irony is when others cannot or do not understand or blindly justify before they are so quick and strongly to judge and attack with no open mind and lack of acceptance.

So if you are reading this and are wondering if it will work for you? if you will lose you hard earned muscle? if you will fail? if you think you need certain animal products to be healthy? then, THINK AGAIN! I started there and am on that journey! I have achieved and answered those questions for myself and gained more solace to these questions than I foresaw. Without moving forward to make it happen, you will never achieve it! Search for your purpose and you will find it by moving forward and stepping over the first hurdle! Start the ball rolling, allow lack of perfection and do not fear failure because, YOU decide when you WIN or FAIL! No one else! Allow a transition of 12 months and any stumble will only excel your will and drive! GO VEGAN! ;)

The truth is, it didn't look good.

We have about $1000 a month for groceries to feed a family of four. I have read a lot of articles and watched a lot of YouTube videos on saving money while eating raw and didn't get any real help for where we live and the situation that we are in.

-In the last two years our son has gone to the doctor once and he's the only one. So, "You won't go to the doctor as much!" doesn't cut it.

-We have no place to buy high quality fruits and vegetables in bulk. In fact, here in West Texas the only fruit we can get that's sweet at the farmers market is melons.

-We weren't eating 100% organic while being 100% raw because we just couldn't afford to and there isn't much variety.

So, now we are looking at doing a McDougall style diet, but I am feeling really sad about it. We have had so much energy on 100% raw. So, how do you afford to eat this good?

Hey guys!

I have been a member of 30 bananas a day for a long time now and I have been reading the inspirational stories here to keep me going. I decided to share mine with you to pay it forward!

I come from a background of anorexia nervosa followed by bulimia later on. I had been eating disordered for almost FIVE years! At my lowest points, I was irritable, fatigued, depressed and had isolated myself from friends and family. The last bit was the most heart breaking. It wasn't until I fainted while standing on a New York City subway that I realized it was time to wake up.

I went raw on July 1, 2011 after watching countless videos of Durianriders and Freelea. Their tough love approach really hit home for me. Prior to going raw, I was a vegetarian who gave no regard to fat content in foods. I ate fake hot dogs, fake yogurts, pickles, mustard--anything that was "low calorie". I combed the Internet for pictures of extremely thin top models for inspiration and read up on their diet plans. I was slender but my body was out of shape and I still had love handles. When I saw the way Durianriders and Freelea looked and how much energy they had, I thought they must be onto something here!

I started out eating as MUCH as I could...anything to keep me from feeling hungry at night and binging and purging. I'm not going to lie: it took a LOT of work and I did mess up a few times. But I stuck with it! My skin broke out. I developed a chronic melon belly that did NOT go away in the morning. I had such severe stomach pains at night that made me cry myself to sleep. I'd go on the forums here and write for help, search the search engine, and see other eating disordered people had this problem, too. I gained about 10lbs from eating all the fruit that I did and no overt fats. My belly made me feel self-conscious and I could barely walk on some days. I looked like I was 8 months pregnant for the first 4 months of going raw. But I kept with it.

After 4 months, I started exercising. Rain or shine, I started out with jogging for about 20 minutes 6 days a week. Gradually, I built up my stamina. I heard Kristina Carillo-Bucaram say she ran 6-8 miles a day and so I set a new bar for myself. I found out that it is VERY important to have fitness goals to work towards and to constantly challenge yourself physically on this lifestyle. It will not only help you with getting fitter but it will also destroy the "eating disorder mentality" of getting thinner to feel better about yourself. Now I feel better about myself for my commitment to health and fitness but also for choosing a lifestyle that decreases my carbon footprint.

By the time January rolled around, I started training with light weights. If you come from a history of being severely underweight or anorexic, this is extremely important. It will tone your muscles, increase your metabolism, build your bone mass back up again, and actually help you with running. It wasn't until I started doing weights that I noticed my tummy and parotid gland swelling went down significantly. My clothes were started to fit me better and people commented that I looked somehow taller and walked straighter.

Here's something I also learned on this plan: it is OK to eat cooked foods once in a while as long as raw foods are the majority. At least for me. I had a demanding job in health care where you can't just eat a bunch of fruits when you want to. I used to hide some vegan bars in my labcoat pocket and munch on those when I got hungry. I sometimes brought a container of brown rice with me. Anything to keep me from feeling hungry. I did go to the bathroom much more often than my dehydrated colleagues, but fortunately, no one can fault me for answering nature's call. :p

I did not start losing fat and water weight until about March or February. It was a slow process of about 0.5 pounds per week and I still have not gone down to my pre-eating disordered weight yet. Maybe I will never go back to that weight! What matters is how my body looks, how I feel, and my waist-to-hip ratio, which is improving more and more each day! I stopped caring about models and high fashion. When your body looks fit and healthy, ANYTHING you wear looks GOOD! I'm so happy to reveal that I do not need to spend drop hundreds of dollars on a pair of designer jeans to look like a million bucks!

I am writing this today because I noticed for the first time this morning that my cheek swelling and belly swelling has gone down drastically. I no longer need to wear foundation/concealer and I haven't seen my skin this clear since I was a teenager! I want to encourage any men or women out there who are struggling with an eating disorder to give it up! It has taken me almost a year to see any significant change in my body and I abused my body a LOT, but keep with it and you will see results! I also want to say that it is OK to eat cooked foods if you see your family cooking your favorite dish (that is also vegan of course) and it's OK to eat bars every once in a while when fresh fruit is unavailable. Do whatever it takes to keep your body from eating high fat animal products. These are words of advice that I wish I could have known when I started as I was really impatient in the beginning.

If you follow Durianriders and Freelea's advice to a T (lots of sleep, 30 mins exercise 6 days a week, high carb, low fat), you WILL see your body transform. The unexpected payoff is that your mind and your heart will also change for the better! You will reclaim your energy and self-esteem. :)

Height: 5'9"

Start weight: 128lbs 32-25-36.5

Current weight: 121lbs 32-24-35.5

So I decided I was going to go without greens for awhile to save some money, but I think I should add them back in to make sure I'm not becoming deficient. Problem is, they are pretty expensive, before I was buying olivia's organic and it was basically 7$ per salad plus the cost of anything else I might decide to put in my salad. Too much. I'm wondering how much other people spend on greens and what greens you get? I'm settling for conventional bananas at the moment, well actually I got organics that I'm finishing up then it will be conventional for awhile. I pretty much always got organic greens before because I didn't want them to be low in nutritional content and to give myself a break from pesticides, how important are organic greens? How badly do they get sprayed? I wanna start eating salads again but man they are expensive. Is it better to eat conventional greens than no greens? I'm getting realllllly *I#*$#ing sick of dealing with the relentless bombardment of chemicals and having a hard time making a decision on this, should I eat conventional greens everyday or organic like 3 times a week or something? I can't decide, I think I have orthoexia. What would/do you do?

hey guys!

Hope you all enjoyed some good fruit today.

I'm really enjoying sprinting. I love using my legs when it comes to strength.

I just got into sprinting a few weeks ago. I started on a track field and it was tough! I warmed up a bit with a light jog for 1 lap and then I began 4 intervals of sprinting. I read an article on here about sprinting that had a workout written out and it said to jog for 3 minutes, then sprint for 6 minutes? Just 1 interval. But still! How is one able to sprint for 6 minutes?

This is what I've been doing: I start my sprint and I run as fast as I can and at about the frst 6-10 second I build my speed to my fastest but then after that it starts to go down and down and down. When I sprint at my hardest I last less than a minute. For even a professional sprinter, is it really possible to sprint for 3 minutes long? Or do you sprint at a certain max level to keep up with that time?

I find that it's waaaaay better for my KNEES to sprint on a treadmill. I sprint at a speed of 8.5 for 1 minute long on a treadmill but I think I am not working at my max level on the treadmill. On the track field I am able to go as fast and be safe. But i usually feel sore knees later that day after sprinting on grass or a track field :/ What should I do?

Is sprinting basically, running as fast as you can in the shortest time??

I'm also going after the Human Growth Hormone. I'd like to add muscle mass on me and shed off a little fat I've gained around my waist.

Are there any experienced sprinters on here??

I have been 100% lfrv for 6 months now and I am still experiencing what I believe to be "detox" in the form of acne. My face has always been quite clear and when I went from my previous low fat vegetarian diet to 100% low fat raw vegan food diet my face began breaking out in little pimples all over. Now, 6 months later, I am still experiencing these breakouts and not to mention larger bumps that will surface on my cheeks.

I do not know what to do. I am following 955, proper food combining (mostly mono meals), adequate water intake (3 liters/day), exercise (triathlon competitor), and rest (7-8 hours/night), but I have not seen ANY change in my skin.

I know that this diet and lifestyle is right and the only answer to pure health. The health benefits (energy, digestion, fitness, etc.) I have experienced otherwise are incredible. I feel great and want to share with everyone how great I believe the lfrv diet is, but I don't because I feel as though I look awful. I have been depressed and let this consume my life. I just want to look on the outside as wonderful as I feel inside.

Is this really still detox? How long should it last? What am I possibly doing wrong? What else should I be doing?

Can anyone offer me advice, encouraging words, or personal recovery stories?
Thanks
