Hey all!,

I'm new here! I wasn't exactly sure where to start so I figured I'd post here. Psyched I joined up and consider myself a student and teacher of life. My goal is to gain as much knowledge from you all and share mine in return. I first found out about "30 Bananas A Day" from a friend who suggested I check out Durianrider's YouTube channel. I was about a week into my bicycle tour riding racked from New York to California which took me 75 days(you can watch the video here). I was on the path to mastery and needed inspiration which Durian provided. Not only has he changed my perspective on eating but my life. After my trip in 2014 I've been doing the "Raw Till 4" lifestyle and my cycling and overall life has improved.

While I still have many things to work on, I'd like to gain more of a knowledge base around food and what it does for my body and how it can improve my cycling. I have a website which you can check out at Manual Pedal and YouTube channel. I've been biking all my life. My dad said one I picked up my bike I never put it down and he's right, I never will put it down until it's my time. I started in BMX which then led me to track and road cycling. I now do road cycling exclusively and bike touring and bikepacking when time permits.

I can often go off in tangents so to leave on a lite note... I'm really psyched to be apart of this community and looking forward to learning and sharing.

Best Regards,

Dwayne _/\_

OKAY THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF A READ, BUT I TRIED TO KEEP IT AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE! GO AT IT:

Foods I react to:

apple, appricot, cheery, kiwi, nectarine, peach, pear, plum, prune, anise, beans, caraway, carrot, celery, coriander, cumin, dill, fennel, green pepper, lentils, pasrley, parsnips, peanut, peas, potatoe, tomatoe, almond, hazelnut, walnut, sunflower, melon, orance, watermelon, canteloupoe, honeydew, pineapple, papaya, mango, cucumber, zuchini, collards ( I am sure there is more but this is the list they gave)

So I have been diagnosed with oral allergy syndrome- a case where due to the outdoor allergies ( grass , mugwort, ragweed , birch & cats/dustmites)...I react also to a protein of fruits that mimic these main allergies..and end up with what looks like acne/hives all over my neck-jaw-mouth-cheeks, and get a swollen tight throat, and sometimes depending on the fruit/veggie red flushed face. --> it's nice to know I was not crazy and imagining all this, as I honestly thoguht i had an allergy to everything...and well now this explains a lot, but its also really sad & frustrating for me...as

1) I spend almost all my free time in nature/all my passions revolve around nature...so being allergic to this...well its beyond devastating.

2) I cannot understand how them most pure things on thisplanet my body is rejecting ( apart from the idea that its severely damaged inside and chose to punish me in the sense of not wanting the healthiest foods to cure itself)

I also..on top of this have PCOS ( the thin/normal weight version..not overweight) + had severed psoriasis I developped and cured once I cut out dairy. And have IBS with certain foods I notice.... ( strangely enough not pure pasta/ plain yukon gold potatoes.. if they are the base in my diet + dates)...So my body is just really messed up and sensitive to A LOT.

this goes on to the next point which many of you will have something to say for sure about:

the only way I have ' improved/healed' my symptoms of the acne/rash/pcos/swelling was ONCE in my life...this past year when I avoided all foods on my allergy list ( this was before I even knew what kindo f allergy I had), and would only strictly eat - my eyes looked clearer, my hair was getting thicker again:

Brown korean sticky rice ( glutinous one)

steamed tender spinach

a little bit of garlic, and occasional thyme, occasional seaweed, randomly some red pepper steamed and - yes this is bad I know...but I took Cod Liver Fermented Oil from green pastures...and noticed, and others around me also...a whole big improvement in the way I looked..as long as I had avoided the other foods on my list.

and a sliver of wild fish (ie. sardines, black cod) twice a week steamed ( size of my thumb ) : the reason i resorted to fish after being vegetarian my whole life almost...( without dairy..but cheese yes on special occasion only after 16 years old:I am 21 now) , was because I wanted to take b-12 pills, but would always no matter what kind I tried get huge rashes all over my body/face...and on top of the fruit rashes..I really looked like some disease walking. I also

and occasionally vitamin D3, though I tried to stay away from synthetic vitamins ( though cod liver many will argue is synthetic in a sense..)

- I never got sick while eating this way ether

However, the reason I stopped this and am dealing with the symptoms, because I just cannot come to accept that I can eat such a limited number of foods and be fine...and never in my life be able to come near the 'purest' things on this planet.

I have a really messed up background of food eating...no one in my family has these problems...only me-meanwhile I always thought I was the healthiest due to my eating style...what a joke! Now I am paying big time, and really would love help/ guidance from people with experience or know actual first handedly people who have perhaps cured their PCOS + Oral Allergies with this lifestyle....I have not really found information.

If you recommend any books too?

I heard about water fasting..I would love to do this if I can alone...with a friend/family around me to help me around...if you know that can be done/safe? Because I really do not have thousands of dollars to be spending on a fasting retreat..if I could I would...I am already on governmentloans during my school and barely have money to buy food let alone...do that fasting.

I really want to heal myself, get rid of this..heal my gut, heal my IBS, cure my PCOS...get a period back ( though people say if I dont have one its natural...but having cysts on my ovaries I do not see as natural) never get rashes again... but I am in a rut. My sister who is a doctor...not to hate.. but she is the most modern style doctor there is...really is no help apart form doing what I already did...avoiding the foods ( good success...but sucky life, mind you I didn't mind eating brown sticky rice everyday, every meal as I loved it... but hard to travel or do anything...)

So if you think there is any advice / way of life I can go about to not get these symptoms, while still being able to live a life I love : rock climbing, camping, traveling, not relying on cooked /dehydated foods...unless dried fruits I guess count?

All my kindest regards

xx

Really, this is the best change I have ever made. I'm only 19 years old (20 in a month!) and I am confident that I will eat this way forever. For now when I have my cooked meal I eat boiled rice ( love it !!) but I usually accompany it with boiled beans or a low sodium lentil soup. I am not sure if I should be doing this ? Why ? because I know that pulses in general are high in protein but they also have a carb content. Could some one please tell me if the lentils and beans are okay ??

Eversince I've become a vegetarian (about 2 years ago), I've been very judged for not eating meat, 'lacking protein' etc, you know it. I don't normally care about the mean comments, as long as I know that I'm eating what's best for me. But it's a bit different when it comes to family. My mum has always tried to promote a healthy lifestyle (according to the majority) in our family (cooking with minimum salt and oil, buying farm products, etc). And for most people, NOT eating from McDonalds means 'healthy', without realising the demage that mean and dairy can cause. But my dad, has always been a 'heavy' meat-eater; and you might know people who can't have a meal without devouring a 'big, juice peace of meat'. For these people is just hard to comprehend a meatless life. They are normally the big judgers, who condemn you for not having any protein in your diet. So, these being said, I can say that a person who, like my mum, is easier to 'convert' to the vegan diet, as she (like myself) doesn't feel the need of eating meat. So the news was quite striking to my family "So you're not even eating FISH??? vegetarians eat fish!" - "DOOH - it has a face!".But since becoming a vegetarian, I gradually gave up dairy as well(which I think I'm intolerant to anyways) and eggs (which I've always hated). And since January, I've adopted the HCRV lifestyle (sometimes having cooked dinners). The good thing is that my mum has always supported mebut my dad is very hard to convince. So before going home last time (btw, we live in different countries), I told them what I eat - fruits & veg and nothing else (ha - what??)I'm happy that they've accepted to watch together a couple of documentaries (Forks over knives and Food matters). And also, after my non-stop mumbling about alkaline and acid foods, cancer, health, I made them think a bit, or actually scared them (as they both had health problems). I made them smoothies and salads, and other dishes and I think that was encouraging. So my dad, realising that he's harming himself by continuing having the same lifestyle, decided to give up meat a few days a week, which is still SOMETHING. As a sedentary person, is very hard to motivate yourself to get out of bed, but they've also started going to the pool (which is a huge improvement I would say). After me leaving, they've started being more conscious about what they're eating.I know that 'my story' sounds boring, and perhaps there's nothing special about it; but I'm sure there are a lot of you who would like to change your family's lifestyle. And it's NOT impossible. Have patience; show them your love and your concern about their health. Be an example! Share your food with them! They will see how delicious it can be! It's a slow process, but it can happen!Sorry for the long post; hope it helps! x

Hey there,

I am not really active on the forum but I am in need of help seriously. I was able to solve any problems that got in my path so far but now I am neck deep in the stuff...

I love the 811 lifestyle and I am even pretty flexible and eat McDougall style when I don't have fruit lying around. I have been alternating between these two for ~7 months and I feel awesome and I would like to do it long-term, like for a lifetime.

Now the problem kicks in. When I started 811 food was affordable here in Hungary however in a few months prices spiked so much that even potatoes are expensive. Fruit is just not affordable and tastes like complete shit. For instance potatoes used to cost 100-120 Huf/kg last year and now they cost 300-400 Huf, which is insane. Bananas used to be 150-200 /kg and now its 400 and there are no wholesale shops in the whole country except for like two, 150km away from me. Even fruit grown locally costs so much. For instance I love grapes... they used to cost ~250/kg last year and now its 500 and above... no f*cking way. [sorry for the language, I am so desperate and angry].

There is no demand for plant matter in this country. They are setting up crops in place of fruit farms to be able to feed the animals they slaughter. And it is getting worse. We revolve around meat (paleo heaven? ).

At the moment I am studying at a university and planning to move out of the country as soon as I get my degree (I am an english major, the translator/interpreter type). Right now I am bound to my family and if I left uni and tried to live on my own I would just die of starvation. It is nearly impossible to find a decent job here in Hungary, even with the right qualifications. I wouldn't be able to live on my own yet... which is the most frustrating. I love my family and all, they are also fully accepting but living here is just not an option anymore.

I am planning on moving to the States since I find it the most comfortable (language and all that). Still, I don't really know what to do, I am so unsure. Do I really want to move so far away? What do you guys think I should do? This is not only about being 811 or vegan, its more about trying to live a fuller life for me. I don't want to waste my life here where everyone is hooked on the money and get into huge debts just to have some property of their own. I want to live as simply and as freely as possible. Any advice?

Scroll down to the almost 2,500 (!) reviews and let the fun begin!

Just one example:

By Uncle Pookie

He's been using an old slinky to slice his banana's. He should really enjoy this product!
