I'll start off with saying that I, in fact, broke up with my long-term boyfriend yesterday. We were so in love, I thought that I was going to be his wife and the mother of his children. However, was I really happy?

See there is a huge difference with being comfortable and happy. He helped me feel great about my insecurities, was my best friend, and loved me to no end.

However, one major thing that we did not have in common was veganism, an issue I'm sure all of you can relate to.

I was vegan back in 2012, and I first met him in 2013, where he told me he liked to eat meat. That didn't really bother me at first, because I was very focused on himself as a person. However, as years went by, I started to notice the issues that were so irritating:

1) He'd never try to learn about my life, and would not even consider educating himself about veganism.

2) His family would smoke cigarettes and would wonder why they have such high blood pressure, back pain, and cancer in the family

3) He would not want to travel and experience things with me; he'd rather be with his family.

As someone who is pretty neutral about most things, one thing I am not neutral about is veganism. However, this relationship (although good) was repressing my true feelings about my passion. I love the environment and I love politics.
He however, did not enjoy those things, he would rather watch youtube videos about a man drinking a shot of mustard than hold a conversation with me about the planet or even our relationship.

That to me bothered me...it bothered so much that I started to find attraction is other people; not specifically one individual but just in general. I started to be surrounded by others who did not stare at their phone and would talk about endless things with you. When you asked them a question, they would not just knock it down with "I don't know", they would answer it thoroughly with enthusiasm!

I saw a quote as well, saying "Follow your passion and the universe will follow." I took this to heart. I wanted to shape my life the way I always envisioned: eating mangoes on the floor with my vegan partner right after a run. I was tired of the ignorance.

On that note, take this message with you:
Love yourself to recognize that you deserve nothing but what you strive for. Do good for the planet, do good for the animals, and do good for you.

When I run for the shirt distances, it does not hurt, but when I try to run more than 8-10 kms I get pain in my right leg, so I need to stop running. Also after running sometimes my knee is clicking when I am going up stairs, so it is so unpleasant, I feel myself like a robot :) And every time I do squats my knees make clicking sounds. Maybe my joints in the knees miss some liquids? Could you recommend me something? Thank you.

Hey everyone!

I'm starting this discussion because I feel it is important to share what can happen and WHY if you come to this unlimited calorie/carbohydrate lifestyle after years and years worth of dieting and calorie restriction (aka metabolic damage), like myself! I came to this lifestyle in March 2012 after yo-yo dieting, calorie/carb restricting, fasting, taking stimulants and laxatives, smoking, drinking alcohol, binge/purging, and overexercising since 2006. My health was suffering severely (anorexia symptoms, digestive disorder, hormonal imbalances), so within one year of following this diet and lifestyle my weight went from an anorexic 120 lbs to a slightly overweight 185 lbs (I'm 5'11"), whilst experiencing immediate improvements in my digestion, hormones, sleep, skin, mental state, and overall health. I just published a very detailed blog post all about my experience here: http://www.nutritionbyvictoria.com/blog/why-i-initially-gained-60-lbs-on-a-high-carb-vegan-diet

I hope that you find the blog post helpful for your recovery if you are experiencing weight gain on this diet. Just know that it's NOT permanent! By sticking to the high carb low fat, unlimited calorie diet and lifestyle (sufficient sleep, water, exercise) you will recover the FASTEST, heal the QUICKEST, and experience weight loss EFFORTLESSLY once your body is ready to target the excess weight (after healing is complete). Initially, weight gain is absolutely necessary in order to turn the wheels of the healing cascade. My weight plateaued after the 1st year, and remained within 5-10 lbs of that weight gain after 2 years. After year 2, my weight started to shift downward, permanently. I've now lost a total of 30 lbs since coming to this lifestyle back in March 2012, and I'm experiencing the best health of my life!

Thank you so much for reading and feel free to leave me any comments/questions!

Victoria

2 year progress pic.png

I thought maybe it might be a good idea to get some support from people who are on the same path...

first little history: (i am 23 years old now)

i am coming from an extreme background of drug abuse since i was born (so obviously not by choice) and followed by eating disorders since i was 12... i had to throw up for 3 years i guess... and then last year it stopped....

when it stopped i was interested in healing my body...or putting in the right food so i searched and found freelees videos... i watched a few of them and became interested in this vegan thing...than i watched the videos with the animals being abused and i cried and went vegan over night... on may 27th 2014

Since i had those eating disorders i never ate the right things, i drank tons of coffee, high fat low carb....basically: i did everything wrong :)

my weight went up and down but i always was normal weight (good figure) and one year i was really underweight . ... my lowest was 50 kg with 1,70 m hight.....also did much sport in my teenage years.... always moving and outside basically....

i always had perfect skin! ...never had problems with pimples...

3 years ago i went to thailand for 2 month and there my skin started to break out ...my nose was always the worst... always pimples on my nose... since then i had to fight my skin becoming more and more bad (but even then it was kind of okey)...W

WHEN i went vegan ... i somehow knew...that all those toxins flowing through my body had to go....and when my body realized that the torture ended, everything seemed to come out...

i sometimes drink lepacho tea to help the detoxing...it is very good...tried to eat the most fruit i can, stopped drinking coffee, fatty foods....

and i felt great.... but since then i always had kind of "detox phases" where i had all sorts of detox symtoms ....

I know this is not something that goes away over night so its okey....

but i still get from time to time extreme breakouts, especially on my nose and it is so annoying because it leaves me with those scars in the middle of my face... i try to cure it with natural remedies...

i read that the nose is linked to the liver and that the inflammations on the nose show that the liver is still not "clean"...

the other thing is that since eating enough i gained about 14 kg since going vegan

at the start 2014 may : about 61 kg

January 2015: 75 kg

now 2015: about 73

i know many are talking about initial weight gain... i watched so many videos and the most of them are talking about 5 kg or something similar :D but i gained 14 kg...thats... much ...

my question is : is this still normal ?

i really follow a hclf vegan diet...especially last year i ate almost no fat and salt at all...

the only thing i am struggling with i sleeping because of sleeping disorders...

i started to do fitness and slowly increased the amount of sport so that i don't give up and never do it again...

my second question is, does anyone know having breakouts on the nose?

and this long detox phase ?

i know i will stay vegan...but i need a little bit of ...your experiences ...to stay on track and be patient.....

wouh....long story short: is a very long healing phase normal IF there has been an extreme damage ?

So I'll tell you where I'm at, and you tell me where I have to go to be a successful HCRV. (I've already read "Aloha to 30BaD's Welcome Wagon", etc)

I'm 169cm, I've been vegetarian for 3 years, I did 1200 cal/day from oct2012 to jan2013 and my weight went from 60kg to 53kg. Then I went vegan for ethical reasons and decided weight doesn't matter as much as health and well-being and ate 1700cal/day basic vegan until April I found 80/10/10 and have been researching it since then. I have been working at being HCRV since then and keep falling off the wagon.

I eat 2500cal/day 650g crabs, and drink 2L water and this week have made an effort to sleep 10-12 hours a night. I am weaning myself off coffee. I don't eat enough greens (1/4 head per day). And I always seem to eat cooked potatoes at dinner because by dinner I haven't had enough fruit cals! When I eat a large fruit mono meal, I get a stabbing nauseous feeling in my stomach. I don't know how I could afford organic, when I don't seem to even be able to afford one head of lettuce a week, let alone enough fruit, let alone ORGANIC fruit and lettuce. I started a veggie patch. I started selling my artworks. I moved home so I don't have to pay rent. I ride my push bike so I don't waste money on petrol. Perhaps I do have the money now and I'm just still in my old mindset. It just makes me feel like a crazy to spend so much on food! My parents get exasperated because I fill the bin up with fruit peels haha :)

I seem to have too much energy and I'm running around the place, bouncing around and singing and making jokes, so I think OMG I need to burn this off and I go and cycle for a few hours, go for a run, dance, lift weights and stuff and burn off so much energy. And then I get so hungry that I eat potatoes again and feel like crap because I accidentally put all this salt on top and bloat right up and then my old mind tells me I'm fat!

I guess I just keep making mistakes and have to learn my lessons. I'm headed in the right direction for now though, right? I just feel a bit.... uncertain at times. A bit... different. In a good way. And have needed to rant about this for so long :D

I think I have a stress fracture in my hip; I recently upped my running mileage and increased my speed training (starting in late December) by joining long-distance track, and my hip bone has been hurting like CRAZY. From what I read, it sounds exactly like a stress fracture--hurts when I run and a little after I run, then feels better when I sit down/rest, but hurts the second I start running again. After I run, I can barely walk because there is this deep, shocking pain on every step.
I'm freaking out, though; My dad said that he can't afford to have it checked out by a doctor/orthopedic and I can't just tell my coach that "my hip hurts and I can't run anymore".
On top of that, I don't want to quit running--I just started getting faster and it's been a LOT of hard work to get there. Plus, I'd really like to lose some weight/get a flat stomach and Freelee insists that high intensity training like the speed workouts we do in running are ideal for that. If I stop running, I'm going to get fatter and less fit than I already am. :/

So, I need advice. What should I do about this? And how can I exercise efficiently and still get those "human growth hormone injections" via speed training when I can't run???
Biking doesn't seem to pump my lymph anywhere near as good as running does. :/

I'm really confused and really, really upset about this.

I'm a 16 year old girl and I run long distance track. I am the slowest of the 10 girls who run long distance. While my speed has improved somewhat, it doesn't compare to that of the others.

However, I noticed when I do a hip stretch on the other girls (pushing their leg back and rotating it), there's a lot of resistance and they can't even put their knee to their chest. When my hip gets stretched by the others, mine knee goes all the way to my chest and I don't feel anything. All of them tell my that I'm "so flexible". I also noticed that the girls with the most resistance (least flexibility) are the fastest.

I decided to do some research on it and have found that some articles confirm that increased flexibility leads to decreased running efficiency. What are your opinions on that? Does anyone have any personal experience with this?

I'm still going to work on getting faster, but I was curious if this was making it really hard for me to get faster, because I have a LOT of difficulty with speed, despite running for over 2 years.

Alright, so here's my situation.

I have thick, long, curly hair (not ringlets-all-over curly--mainly on the bottom half of my hair, since the length of it weighs down the top), and I've always used conditioner to moisturize it and to be able to untangle it without ripping lots of hair out and taking forever to do so. My hair can get VERY knotty.

I've never used shampoo much--I don't at all now--and I don't use any other beauty products besides conditioner and the occasional Dr. Bronner's, a bit of oil (some sort of blend with Argon), and mineral powder make-up. I want to decrease my product dependency and hair health by not using conditioner all together.

My question is, how? I've tried going without it for about a week now, but having such a hard time brushing my hair in the shower is quite irritating. And I don't want to make my hair more frizzy by tugging it out--I've had enough damage done from my eating disorder (when I was in treatment, SO much hair came out) and a short hair-straightening spell that I had in middle school. Is there a way for me to get all of the knots out more easily?

Any advice about natural hair care would be greatly appreciated! Tell me about your own experience. (:

Also, what do you do for your skin? I have a horrible picking problem (it's a nervous thing), even though my acne isn't very bad, and I'm constantly touching my face (which is probably the main cause of what little acne I do get). I have big pores and red spots all over. Does anyone know a good remedy to repair and renew facial skin? I feel like if my skin got better it would be easier to quit the picking habit.

Thank you in advance! (;

Hey all,

I have suffered from psoriasis flare ups for about 2 years now and I am finding it a lot itchier and inflamed since i started this high fruit/natural carb diet.

The rash itself has spread from my ribs to my face, back, chest and backs of legs over time and I was hoping that over time too, this clean diet will clear it up for good. It appeared one winter a few years ago after my student life of drinking and taking recreational drugs every weekend took its toll. In addition to the massive amount of stress that came with exams, deadlines and debt!

I have just noticed over the past 2 weeks that I have been on this diet that my rash is much worse than it has been when i completely cut sugar, apart from the odd piece of dark chocolate (dairy free) or fruit out of my diet. I am encouraged to stick with this fruit diet though because I can see from my CRON the amazing content of vitamins and minerals I am getting from eating fruit and veg all day. And I am hoping this will repair my immune system over time.

My concern is that this irritation is going to get worse and worse, anyone have any advice on the diet and psoriasis? I'm sick of being a scabby skinned mess unhappy with showing my skin. Especially since my skin was so fantastic and problem free before this psoriasis appeared!

Extra Info:

-Over the last two years I have completely phased out dairy, wheat, most processed sugars and now I am trying to phase out gluten completely in order to add my digestion and heal my health.

-However I work very long shifts in a busy restaurant so in order to work efficiently when I do not get a break I boost my energy with oatcakes in banana which gives me an amazing amount of energy. Dates and apple too but the oatcakes are definitely what keep me going for longest as I rarely get break for shifts less than 8 hours.

Any help and advice would be wonderful! I'm a complete novice to this lifestyle and eager to drink in all the knowledge I can.

Kayleigh

I'd really like longer and thicker hair.

As a kid I was forced to have my hair cut really short and I always hated how I looked with it.

I'm sorry if this post is superficial and if I appear hypocritical by posting this. But I can't hide that this matter is something that's been bothering me.

Hey guys!

I have been a member of 30 bananas a day for a long time now and I have been reading the inspirational stories here to keep me going. I decided to share mine with you to pay it forward!

I come from a background of anorexia nervosa followed by bulimia later on. I had been eating disordered for almost FIVE years! At my lowest points, I was irritable, fatigued, depressed and had isolated myself from friends and family. The last bit was the most heart breaking. It wasn't until I fainted while standing on a New York City subway that I realized it was time to wake up.

I went raw on July 1, 2011 after watching countless videos of Durianriders and Freelea. Their tough love approach really hit home for me. Prior to going raw, I was a vegetarian who gave no regard to fat content in foods. I ate fake hot dogs, fake yogurts, pickles, mustard--anything that was "low calorie". I combed the Internet for pictures of extremely thin top models for inspiration and read up on their diet plans. I was slender but my body was out of shape and I still had love handles. When I saw the way Durianriders and Freelea looked and how much energy they had, I thought they must be onto something here!

I started out eating as MUCH as I could...anything to keep me from feeling hungry at night and binging and purging. I'm not going to lie: it took a LOT of work and I did mess up a few times. But I stuck with it! My skin broke out. I developed a chronic melon belly that did NOT go away in the morning. I had such severe stomach pains at night that made me cry myself to sleep. I'd go on the forums here and write for help, search the search engine, and see other eating disordered people had this problem, too. I gained about 10lbs from eating all the fruit that I did and no overt fats. My belly made me feel self-conscious and I could barely walk on some days. I looked like I was 8 months pregnant for the first 4 months of going raw. But I kept with it.

After 4 months, I started exercising. Rain or shine, I started out with jogging for about 20 minutes 6 days a week. Gradually, I built up my stamina. I heard Kristina Carillo-Bucaram say she ran 6-8 miles a day and so I set a new bar for myself. I found out that it is VERY important to have fitness goals to work towards and to constantly challenge yourself physically on this lifestyle. It will not only help you with getting fitter but it will also destroy the "eating disorder mentality" of getting thinner to feel better about yourself. Now I feel better about myself for my commitment to health and fitness but also for choosing a lifestyle that decreases my carbon footprint.

By the time January rolled around, I started training with light weights. If you come from a history of being severely underweight or anorexic, this is extremely important. It will tone your muscles, increase your metabolism, build your bone mass back up again, and actually help you with running. It wasn't until I started doing weights that I noticed my tummy and parotid gland swelling went down significantly. My clothes were started to fit me better and people commented that I looked somehow taller and walked straighter.

Here's something I also learned on this plan: it is OK to eat cooked foods once in a while as long as raw foods are the majority. At least for me. I had a demanding job in health care where you can't just eat a bunch of fruits when you want to. I used to hide some vegan bars in my labcoat pocket and munch on those when I got hungry. I sometimes brought a container of brown rice with me. Anything to keep me from feeling hungry. I did go to the bathroom much more often than my dehydrated colleagues, but fortunately, no one can fault me for answering nature's call. :p

I did not start losing fat and water weight until about March or February. It was a slow process of about 0.5 pounds per week and I still have not gone down to my pre-eating disordered weight yet. Maybe I will never go back to that weight! What matters is how my body looks, how I feel, and my waist-to-hip ratio, which is improving more and more each day! I stopped caring about models and high fashion. When your body looks fit and healthy, ANYTHING you wear looks GOOD! I'm so happy to reveal that I do not need to spend drop hundreds of dollars on a pair of designer jeans to look like a million bucks!

I am writing this today because I noticed for the first time this morning that my cheek swelling and belly swelling has gone down drastically. I no longer need to wear foundation/concealer and I haven't seen my skin this clear since I was a teenager! I want to encourage any men or women out there who are struggling with an eating disorder to give it up! It has taken me almost a year to see any significant change in my body and I abused my body a LOT, but keep with it and you will see results! I also want to say that it is OK to eat cooked foods if you see your family cooking your favorite dish (that is also vegan of course) and it's OK to eat bars every once in a while when fresh fruit is unavailable. Do whatever it takes to keep your body from eating high fat animal products. These are words of advice that I wish I could have known when I started as I was really impatient in the beginning.

If you follow Durianriders and Freelea's advice to a T (lots of sleep, 30 mins exercise 6 days a week, high carb, low fat), you WILL see your body transform. The unexpected payoff is that your mind and your heart will also change for the better! You will reclaim your energy and self-esteem. :)

Height: 5'9"

Start weight: 128lbs 32-25-36.5

Current weight: 121lbs 32-24-35.5

I hope I don't get clobbered here -- but I'm wondering about any thoughts or ideas against long fasts (over 10 days). I am a huge Shelton and Natural Hygiene enthusiast, don't get me wrong, but I do question them. And not for poor reason, I have done a 21 day fast. I enjoy Norman Walker's writing as well, and he promotes intermittent fasting -- 6 days fast, 3 break ( mono oranges or watermelon) and repeat the process in sequence as many times as needed for detox and healing. I have read small bits and pieces against long fasts, but usually I chalk it up to these people not being prepared for the high detox or some of the intense side effects of a long fast -- perhaps seeing them as negative instead of positive. Nevertheless, I'm about to do another 21 day (it has been 3 years now).

Anyone's thoughts against long term fasting are appreciated. At the end of the day, I believe strongly in it. But during my first long fast, I did not sleep very well at all, and lost a good bit of hair. Of course I got healthier after, and the hair grew back.
