And while I still think fruit and starches are best, I miss chips and dip! I'm American, but live in Ethiopia and am starting a food company here that would make vegan, gluten free, oil free chips.

I'm not sure how familiar everyone is with teff, but it's a gluten free grain high in iron, calcium, vitamin C, and has all the essential amino acids in it.

My background is in social work so the company would also support women farmers and employ at risk individuals like those coming out of prostitution, single mothers, and the disabled.

Anyways, I'm starting a crowdfunder for it next Friday and was wondering if anyone would help promote it by putting a link to it on their Facebook, Youtube video etc.

Our website is: www.eatdirkosh.com so you can learn more about it there.

Please message me your email if you're interested. Anyone willing to help promote it a few times I will put your link to blog or channel on the crowdfunding page to hopefully get you more followers.

Thanks soo much! :)

dirkosh no white border.jpg

Hi everybody!

So I have been eating high carb low fat vegan since November (so it's 8th month now) but I don't feel any changes. At first I tried eating as much fruit as I was able to get but then during the winter it was really expensive so I switched to eating cooked carbs. From time to time I do eat some fatty products but it isn't that much. Also, I exercise regularly (sometimes I run about 4 km, most of the time I ride bike to school which is about 20km forth and back). I drink about 2-3 liters of water per day, sometimes less.

In fact, I have experienced some changes, for example, I feel better, my hair and nails are stronger. The problem is, my weight haven't changed a bit. I mean, I haven't gained or lost any of it. Sometimes it really pisses me off... That's why I created this topic! So if anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong, I'll be pleased to hear.

I made a new friend today(online) and he is telling me I should try antidepressants/ anti anxiety medication. He studied psycology in college and told me I likely have a chemical imbalance. I don't deny that but I think/know it can be remedied with fresh fruit/rawtil4, exercise, sunshine, etc. I always feel amazing after I do those things, BUT I am broke, and exhausted... I just can't get the fruit in... I don't even have the energy to apply for food stamps... (I don't want to rely on them, but don't have shame in using that aid the help with my life) anyways... my life is just an endless list of tasks, I don't want to get a job, until I sell all my clutter/useless possessions, I can't sell those things until I get a better working laptop, I can't get a better laptop cause I'm broke>< I am so tired and confused all the time... but enough of that i don't want pity... I am just wondering if you think I should use the chemical drugs that I may be able to get for free from my dad's health insurence. What damage will this do to my body and can it be detoxed out? I just need the energy to get shit done in my life... I'm tired of being a loser living at home... fruit is ideal... but I have zero dollars... today all I had was two fish tacos someone left in the fridge. Other than minimal plant foods my parents buy, I live on rice. I feel like I am just surviving day to day... and have no energy.... anyways... I may try these pills, my friend was really incouraging me to. Even though I hate pills...

Please tell me why they are unhealthy... I may not sound very smart but I am (once again, just tired..) I can understand the science of the pills and all that. Please link some legit articles.. I plan to take these pills, accomplish my goals, get a steady job for a while, ease myself off and then with the money from my job I can overload my system with top quality plants foods/fruit.... also i can finally buy that road bike I've been dreaming of... and a new laptop to make youtube videos... etc... i can finally start living my life!

     Hello everyone,

So, I've been eating HCRV for a month and 4 days now, and I feel better than ever. I've kicked my HORRIBLY strong binge/purge addiction, and my anorexia restricting-calories habit. My life feels free for the first time in years. Anyway, on to my question.

The first day I watched Freelee's videos and decided to eat all bananas, I didn't know that you were supposed to never eat unripe bananas, and only eat them once they're spotty. so for several days, I ate about 12-14 bananas (I know that's not technically enough but I'm working my way up and feel completely satisfied) that were all solid yellow with a little green. I felt great, I'm not bloated, and I'm having 2-3 bowel movements daily. But everything I'm reading now is saying how bad it is to eat bananas at this stage, so I'm just confused. One place even said "NEVER EVER EVER EAT UNRIPE BANANAS!"

It is very, very, very difficult for me in my area to get a hold of ripe bananas, as they're normally tossed out if they're not green, and with my money and life currently, it is simply impossible for me to constantly keep ripe bananas, so I'm left with no choice but to have the yellow ones. I do keep them wrapped in a blanket near a heater which has ripened them much quicker, but still, when I go out to buy my new bunches, I do have to eat yellow ones that day, and I can't afford to run out and buy bananas often enough to constantly keep ripe ones on hand, if that makes sense.

Just wondering if anyone can explain to me why unripe bananas are so bad, or clear up that it's okay since they don't give me a stomach ache or constipate me as I've read they're supposed to do. I know all about the less sugar content and all that information. But they make me feel full, happy and energetic.

For 2 weeks now I've been eating fully raw, at least 2000-3000 calories everyday, except yesterday and today it's been really hard for me to eat, I haven't had much of an appetite. More so it's just that food doesn't seem appealing to me right now. Yesterday I had 1L of tangerine juice (with pulp of course) for breakfast, and I was fine, but when I tried to eat lunch (10 pears) I only got through 4 or 5 before I had to stop. So I went and bought some dates because I figured "I can usually slam those in" but same thing. Normally I can eat upwards of 30 in one sitting but I only managed to eat about 15 and that was in the course of an hour. They don't even seem like they'd taste good. I also ate lettuce wraps for dinner last night. I chopped a bunch of vegetables up and put some lemon and lime juice on them and wrapped them in iceberg. That was all I could manage to eat. Similar today. Only I haven't eaten yet :( when I woke up this morning I had a thick white coating on my tongue and I can tell my breath stinks. I'm also groggy and have some gas. I don't know what could be causing the lack of appetite but can you guys suggest any foods that are easy on the stomach or things you can eat even when you feel yucky? Is it okay to not eat a lot if you don't feel well if it's only for a little while?

I've tried a couple of times going without shampoo, just using water when showering my face and body. I'm all about natural hygiene, which is why I tried it in the first place. It pains me to say this, but I don't think no poo is for everyone.

Animals in the wild don't exactly smell peachy. They have a musk and greasy hair/fur for several reasons. Those reasons don't apply to the society that first world humans in. A smell of body odor (regardless of diet) will put most potential suitors off, not on like with wild animals. It can be seen (or smelled haha) as offensive to people you're around. It can be deemed inappropriate in a work environment (especially white collar jobs).

We also don't need a grease layer to protect us from the elements, as we live indoors. Even when people go outside for extended periods, they usually protect their heads and bodies from the hot sun or cold rain or snow with clothing and sunscreen...and insect repellant lol.

Finally, we live in an unnatural world of air pollution, especially you city dwellers. In my opinion AND experience, these chemicals need more than a gentle water washing to get out. I also believe our treated water lacks the minerals of natural spring water, while adding in fluoride, chlorine, etc. which can damage and dry out hair and skin.

If you are able to go no poo with a high degree of success, that's awesome! I'm not telling you not to do so, and I welcome any tips you may have to lessen soap use. Currently, I use a vegan bar of soap for my hair, armpits, and nether regions every day or two (or three or four if I can). I don't blame dry skin on the soap. I blame it on the cold, dry climate and hard water.

When at my aunt and uncle's house, I get to shower in their soft water. Even without using soap, I feel like my skin is left soft and nourished after each shower. No dry, flaky skin whatsoever. A few days after being back home in typical, treated city water? My dry skin returns.

All of that said, I don't feel like a failure for choosing not to go no poo, and I don't think you should either. I would recommend a gentle, vegan soap. Dr. Bonner's has a mild burning sensation to it, so I switched to Kirk's Castile soap. The one commenter on that page recommended it for people with sensitive skin. Also, it has no dyes or detergents...and it's cheap :D

Stay fruity and, uh, stay clean :P

I'm usually drinking at least one banana smoothie a day, blended with a stick blender so there's no oxidation. Perhaps the solar system will be able to run a 600w immersion blender, maybe not, any thoughts about this as well would be appreciated! But my main question is this: HOW TO MAKE A MANUAL STICK BLENDER??

I know there is one called Vortex blender, but its a traditional type blender (with a crank) and it's therefore gonna create, well, a vortex, which is gonna oxidize the smoothie!

Maybe its possible to use a pestel and a mortar, maybe just a fork and then a crank mixer or something....who knows....

Anyone with experiences with this?

Im doing my second attempt with going no poo. first time I tried it I simply rinsed my hair with water, and it was a disaster ! my hair got so greasy from it that I didn't feel like leaving my apartment. and it wasn't even dirty beforehand !

so now I wanted to try out the baking soda-approach, hoping for a more gradual transition. - I don't mind my hair being a little greasy during this phase, but I don't want people to think that Im insanitary either ;)

SO today was my first day. It has been 5days since my last hair wash, although normally Ill wait 7-8 days in between washing. I wanted to break the wash-cycle a little early so that the risk of my hair turning out like last time, would be smaller.

step1 - I mixed 3tbs of baking soda w 150ml of water.

step2 - after rinsing my hair in warm water for a couple of minutes, I put the mixture in my hair and massaged it in for another cpl of minutes, and then I rinsed it out completely.

step3 - panic ? I must say that my hair feels really thick and unmanageable ! It hasn't dried yet, so idk how it will turn out, but experience tells me that when it feels like this wet, it wont improve much in its dry state.

what do you say ? do you think that I need to just stick it out, and maybe wash it everyday for a while w the baking soda until my hair adjusts ? or should I try adding lemon to the mixture maybe ? Im open to any suggestions and/or stories of experience

thanks fruities !

Naturally, I began to doubt the need for shampoo, but when my hair became greasy after a short no-shampoo period I gave up. I have come across information on the subject lately and would be glad if you can help me sort things out:

1. Some of the no-shampoo adherents wash their hair with baking soda and vinegar. In my eyes this is effectively substituting one unnatural substance with another one, and the option of water-rinsing only appeals to me more. Is it actually preferrable?

2. If I use water only, I understand that I would need to scrub the scalp from time to time. What is the frequency?

3. I have read about the transition period, when the scalp becomes extra greasy. Is there a way to relieve this condition?

Many thanks,

Maor.

So I do some work at a yoga studio and some of the teachers were talking after class. It went like this:

A: "I've been doing the Candida diet for a year, and I never cheat, except I for a little ice cream and sometimes some half and half in my coffee, but even that I can't do. I can't digest anything. When I was doing a regime of probiotics and natural supplements I felt a little better."

B: 'So what can you eat?"

A: "I can do greens. No sugar tho. If I have just a piece of fruit I feel awful"

B: "Yea I think I've been having too many carbs lately. I feel off"

C: "Yea I spent thousands seeing different people. I was doing the raw diet for a while, but then my acupuncturist told me I needed warming foods because of my Ayurvedic constitution. And the raw diet just makes so much sense to me, but then someone tells you something else and you're like well I guess that's not right".

There was more I'm sure, but that about sums it up. I didn't even bother chiming in because I've done that before and It just never goes over. But I don't feel bad about it because I have learned to just talk to people about things when the timing is right and they want to hear something new because most of the time it is just people stuck in their ways and lost in what they have been told, and it always ends in disagreement. So why bother. I just wanted to share what I heard because It really bums me out that people aren't feeling good and there isn't much to be done to help them, except themselves, which is something only they can control.

But this kind of work is going to both be not good for my health, im going to be up all nights untill the mornings, its totally gonna be bad for my personality and feelings and how i feel inside of me, i would feel bad about myself, really really bad. I´d also have to drink alcohol almost every night, in little or small dozes (i already gave up drinking), and i´d have to handle second hand smoking for many hours a day. (i gave up smoking myself and my lungs are really bad).

I really really dont want to do this job, i´ve been there before, and i broke out in rash and had to go to the hospital to get steroid shots to make it go away ( im an allergy person, but they couldnt find a reason, i think it was the place i worked at or just my body telling me this is not for me)

This job again, pays REALLY well if your hard working.

This might be a clear choice for most of you, but can you then please tell me, those of you who DONT have money in the bank or people to look to for help, and are in my situation where you will be on zero and most likley not be able to maintain this 80/10/10 lifestyle when the money is OUT. What will i eat then? nothing.. :S i have nothing in the freezer except for small amount of fruit, i gave everything i had "SAD" food up in exhange for fruits and veggies this month cause i was already having problems with money.

So today I was very excited because I promised I'd take myself book shopping after my doctor's appointment (which went well [I'm not full raw yet, but have been meatless for 2 years].. save for having high triglycerides [it runs in the family] and slightly low iron stores; he also said I'm slightly underweight, but I HIGHLY beg to differ!). Anyway .. last night I wrote down a list of 4 books I wanted:

The World Peace Diet -- Will Tuttle

80 10 10 Diet -- Douglas Graham

Igniting Your Life -- John McCabe

Sunfood Diet

Guess what?! Chapters had none of them. That's right, NONE. I tried to type in just the author's name; still none!

Yet when I was walking by the "Nutrition" section; I saw at least 5 books on Paleolithic philosophy. This made me pretty darn angry. How come Paleo books get to be stocked, and Raw Vegan theism is not?!

Sure; they have tons of raw vegan cookbooks (around 10 of them [they also had about 5 paleo cookbooks too :/]). But I want more than just a cookbook. I want a story. I want inspiration .. something that takes a while to read. And they have none!

Which is why I'm asking for a Kindle for Christmas so I can download all the raw vegan theism I want off of amazon, if Chapters isn't going to work! Hmmph!

This is a stem off of the b12 discussion about purity right now.

Personally, I was one wishing I wouldn't have to supplent, I went to the doc to check my blood, and, lo and behold, I was low on b12. Since I don't want to mess around with low b12 I decided to supplement, but was uncomfortable with most supplements out there due to additives and high doses. I FOUND ONE. This is partially thanks to Adam and Loess (on another site). Adam recommended something micellized because it's better absorbed and you can take less of a "megadose" and loess pointed me to a US distributor (Adam only knew of his UK one). I hope this helps somebody else who doesn't want to inject their body with more than they have to!

For the other thread:

I have one that is ONLY b12 (hydroxycobalamin) and water. It's a drop that you put in water (can't taste it). It's also CHEAP. If you haven't ordered from this place before you can use a "referral" code that I give you and get $5 off (that's what I did when I first ordered about a month ago and it ended up being $8.90 (with shipping) for 340 servings. It was super important for me to find one that didn't have anything else in it, as shots, sublinguals, and most drops do. ALSO this one is micellzied, meaning it's better absorbed and you can take less mcg per serving (50 mcg, as opposed to, like, 1000mcg)
http://www.iherb.com/InterPlexus-Inc-NutriSorb-B12-Liquid-Vitamin-B12-0-6-fl-oz-17-ml/31266?at=0 <--- This is the product

PIX099 <-- Use this code to get $5 off coupon

Also, Adam told me if you are already deficient, which I was, you should take 3x the amount on the bottle for a couple of months, and then just take it as maintenance.
