Hi, I've been vegan for a few years now.. I took b12 orally like a super long time ago (been at least a year). I noticed my energy had been dragging a ton even after a long night of rest so I decided to get a shot!!

Approx 30 seconds after the shot, I felt heavy and trip (like as if I was drunk) I sat down in the chair in the waiting area and everything looked all stained glass like. I told the nurse and the desk lady and they gave me water and told me to wait and chill until a felt better.

After like ten minutes, I feel a little better and I had to go because I was running late for work and still needed to pickup groceries, so I get up (and have my partner help me) and like when I go outside, everything turns all back and weird and I feel really heavy again and my partner has to like drunk girl carry me to the car. On the way to the store, I start feeling like a new person and now I feel super energize and pumped and happy!!

I was just wondering, is this a normal reaction? Or like an allergic reaction or anything?? Thanks!!

and the kind of B12 used in the shots was methyhlcobalamin :D

This is exactly the kind of stuff/place I was looking for. So I appreciate the add and look forward to becoming apart of the group.

A little about me: I am 26, married, have two little girls and have been a vegan for about a year. (I am the only vegan in the house) I also currently live in Alaska. I have been an Alaska state resident for the past 2 years. Produce is brought here on boats and/or trains.... it's quite expensive and the quality is poor. Because of this I have to buy a lot of frozen fruits.
I have been experimenting with 80/10/10 for about 3 or 4 weeks now. I really LOVE it and I can't wait to fully commit! My husband is in the Coast Guard and we are moving to Cape Canaveral Florida March 31st. So, really soon! I can't wait for farmers markets and FRESH FRUIT!!! **If anyone is in that area of FL I would love to chat! I am curious about the area and would love to bombard you with questions! :)

I do have a few questions about 80/10/10 that I will post on other forum topics. I haven't read the book yet... so maybe I will wait to post until then.

Looking forward to meeting/posting with you all!

-Andria

Hello all,

So I've decided to get my eating disorder out in the open. I haven't been restricting myself at all since the end of the summer. It started in March last year, and ended when I found the high carb cooked vegan lifestyle, although I have to say at that time I was still restricting. So, I really don't know when it ended, but I stopped restricting completely at the end of August.

Anyways, ever since then, I've gained twenty pounds. I was 96 pounds when I first got my disorder and then dropped down to 89. Now, after 4-5 months of basically stuffing my face, I am 110 pounds. I was 105 during the cross country season, I was happy with the way I looked, but now since I pulled a muscle pretty bad in my butt from cheerleading I haven't been able to work out all over break and I hate the way I look. I am so much bigger, and stocky. My legs are just big and bulky and my abs disappeared. I tried to fit in a size 1 dress that I got for my high school winter formal dance, and I was too big. I look in the mirror and it's really hard to tell myself to not go back to the way I was and restrict because I just want to look tiny again. I know 110 pounds isn't technically overweight for my height and age (14) but since I've always been very little (even before anorexia) it is starting to show. I feel guilty when I eat a lot but I feel like I can't control it.

Is this healthy? Is my body just trying to regain everything it lost? How long will this process take, and will I eventually tone up/be smaller again?

(P.S. - sorry this discussion is in the Off topic Chat. I wasn't really sure what group to put it in)

Okay. There's a lot of information online, but it's all over the place. I'm overwhelmed. I'm just not sure of a few things. I also don't have any extra money to spend to buy a book yet. I just wanted to ask a few basic questions. My questions are about the High Carb Raw Vegan Diet.

1. This seems expensive. I've started somewhat with apples and I'm thinking grapes too, and catching fruit and veggies on sale. However, it's not realistically in my budget to eat too much over a bag of fruit every day. Where does eating rice and starch fit in?

Can I eat rice or potatoes and veggies every day to save money or should I limit the cooked starch to once a week or something? Also, should I be consuming a specific amount of calories or just what I need, (since some days I'm more active than others)?

2. Can I cook my veggies with a little oil for the evening meal? If so, is canola oil bad? If so, what oils should I transition to. I'm thinking avocado, grapeseed and pure olive oil etc.

3. Can I use spices, (some places say it's okay, some say no. Why is a little sea salt and other seasonings so bad in moderation?

4. What about juice and black tea and green tea. I don't understand why those things are bad. I need a little gingko biloba and black tea to work. (Well, I don't know if I will after my diet changes completely. I definitely see an energy increase). Yet, I'm still worried to give up my black tea and gingko completely for work.

5. Can I eat beans and vital wheat gluten for dinner (not at the same time, but one or the other as a protein with rice, potatoes or pasta and veggies?)

I also used to make sure I would wake up to work out at least four times a week. Now, I wake up around 12-2 pm ! I have never slept this late in my life! While I feel great sedentary on the 801010 life-style, I am finding it difficult to work out because I wake up so late and have to get to work ( I work at 3pm so Im not forced to wake up early).I should also mention that I work till 12 AM, 5 nights a week so I go to bed around 1 am. But i am still ranging around 12 hours a night! I feel like i shouldnt feel so tired. I am curious if I should just listen to my body and sleep till whenever I feel like waking up.. or if I should begin to set alarms and wake my lazy self up to work out although I am feeling so tired? Does this extensive sleeping issue happen to alot of raw foodies?

Hello everybody! I'm Teo :) I'm 31 and I'm happy to have found you!

I have been on and off raw foods for the last two years and now I'm planning my big resurrection. Hopefully with your help and support I'll make it happen this time! :)

Or... just accept the fact that it can't happen here right now...

I first got into raw foods intuitively eating fruits and salads. After I've read 80/10/10 I had one attempt on it, but I wasn't eating enough calories + not exercising and I ended up going back to cooked, eating all kinds of stupid things that I don't even enjoy... So, for the last few years I've been either eating raw and feeling quite good, either eating cooked (mainly veggies from my garden). I wish I wouldn't swing so much and just stay raw!

I have some "excuses" about why it is so hard to do 811 where I live, but hopefully you'll help me get them out of the way. I live in Europe in a cold climate country.

My main problem is about the fruits that are available in my country. We don't have any kind of organic markets around here and even the non organic fruits in the supermarkets are always unripe and horrible. The local fruits are very good and tasty and I also have my own garden, but they are mainly low calorie fruits and only available a few months in the summer.

In the summer and fall I can eat some watermelons, strawberries, grapes, peaches.. etc but in the winter and spring I can't find anything. The oranges, mangoes or any other exotic fruits are always unripe!!! Grrrr! :( This is VERY frustrating especially cause I love fruits but can't get it...

So, my main source of calories can only be non organic bananas. That I buy unripe and try to get them ripen at home.

So, here are my questions:

1. Is it OK to eat mostly non organic fruits on a 811 diet? Is it better than eating low fat cooked organic food?

2. Is anyone around here restricted like me, with less variety of fruits and feeling satisfied on 811? Do I look like I have any chances of succeeding?

There is also an organic fruit supplier in Germany that ships here, but it's very expensive and the fruits come a long way before they arrive to me. Also, I'm not in a very good place with money right now. So.. what is your advice on this? Do you know any fruit suppliers in Europe that also ship in other countries?

3. Another thing is that I always run out of ripe bananas :P Ooops :) Beginner here also! How do you ripe your unripe bananas? Do they need special conditions? Mine just seem to take a looong time to ripe...and end up not being that tasty.. :( Any tips?

How many kg do you buy once and how often? Can anyone share a shopping plan please! :)

I never had any support or coaching but I feel like I could really use some right now. So, since I'm kind of broke, if anyone can offer some free coaching please let me know. I can offer in exchange some of my handmade clothing.

Well, hopefully with your help and support I'll find the missing links and I'll make it happen!!! :)

Thanks for reading my story and I can't wait to read your replies! :)

HI GUYS!

Im so pumped right now because I have so many questions to ask my nutrition professor at my college. Today was the second lecture and we covered (our favorite) carbohydrates and simple sugars.

Here is a quote from the notes he posted,

"Low carbohydrate and/or high fiber diets are considered as healthy foods."

My question is, what is considered low carb? Fruits and veggies are about 80% carbs right? Is he talking about foods that are MORE than 80% carbs, or is he excluding fruits and veggies?

If he is just excluding fruits and veggies, I think it would be good to know (as students of nutrition).

Another quote...

"Excess intake of carbohydrates appears to contribute to the development of obesity and insulin resistance."

My question is still, what about fruits and veggies? I personally think the lecture should point out WHICH carbohydrates, meaning what sources. The first lecture also covered obesity and its causes... he pointed out that a high fat diet (along with obvious other things) causes obesity. This may be a little farfetched, but you cant eat too much fat and you cant eat too much carbs or else you will become obese. Whats left? Proteins?

These are just a couple examples. We also talked about excess glucose stimulating insulin secretion (diabetes??), as well as gluco-toxicity- "prolonged exposure of beta cells to high leveles of glucose causes cell failure" (My question about that is, would that be especially dangerous to a raw vegan?, etc.)

The whole time I was in class, I was like, "Damn, what would Harley say?!?!?" LOL!

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS YOU WANT TO ADD?

(I am scheduling an appointment to talk to my professor tomorrow or sometime next week. I will be glad to take notes for anyone interested in hearing what he had to say.)

LOVE TO YOU ALL!

YOU ARE GREAT!

Melissa :)

And i have too many questions.

im still in the process of reading 811, im a slow reader so its gonna take me a while, so i guess my first question would have to be, what would be a good reading strategy on this? to get it read in the best time so i can hurry up and get my fruit on. haha

money's an issue with me too. i work part time and only make around $700 a month. how could i possibly afford the HUGE amounts of fruit that we humans must consume? i spent $10 on a single breakfast the other day, and only 1/3 of it was organic. i know when it comes to nutrients you pretty much get what you pay for, but at $700 a month and lets say $10 per meal plus snacks, thats over $900 a month on food! thats too much for me. and i really really really wanna do this. and then recipes. do i need recipes or do i eat single fruits in large amounts on their own one at a time? cause the whole some nutrients like, inhibit the absorption or others. and variety. oh man i cant think of very many different fruits that i know of. and man, where to get it all, i live in the sacramento area and dont know where to get my organic fruit. and how to store fruit. this past week i keep buying fruit too late and i end up eating it all before its ripe and its not fun at all. and then alternatives to other things outside of food. like soap, shampoo, deodorant, shaving stuff, and skin care (preferably topical). and then one last thing, vitamins a, d, e, and k are fat soluble, is 10% fat enough to absorb the vitamins? my nutrition teacher told me that without enough fat i wont be able to get those vitamins and im just gonna be sick like ALL THE TIME. and i dont doubt this diet, i just want to know if shes right or not. cause everyone here seems to look very very healthy.

so i guess my questions werent really asked in question form. so i heres a list of my questions.

whats a good 811 reading plan?

how can i afford so much organic fruit?

recipes or single large amounts of fruit 1 at a time?

where do i get my fruit in sacramento?

how do i store my fruit?

how do i tell when fruit is ripe or how long does it take of storage until its ripe?

how do i clean myself without soap and shampoo and conditioner and body wash?

what do i use to deodorize myself? im ok with perspiration, just not the stink.

whats a good alternative to shaving cream? (not that important of a question)

is 10% of fat enough fat for the absorption of vitamins a, d, e, and k? i was told we need around 20%-35% fat. and again, i dont believe 811 or my nutrition book is wrong, i just want to know whats right and why.

and water, do i need to drink it? or do we get enough water from our fruit?

yeah. thats all the questions i can think of for now. so yeah. again, hi everyone! i hope to hear from some of you all soon.

oh, and add me as a friend! i need more fruity friends! i swear i dont know a single person in my life that was ever 100% LFRV. and the only other healthy(or so i thought) people that i know that ive mentioned this lifestyle to have all looked down upon it like i was a crazy person and i dont appreciate that. so yeah, more fruity, healthy, optimistic, and supportive friends would be totally cool.

I have been reading and Loving Ether hick's & Abraham books and listening to their CDs, many times they say your health and weight are a direct result of your thoughts always! As in: If you think/see yourself as thin and healthy then you will be. Thats why a thin and overweight person can eat the same amount of food and will not be the same weight. Then the interviewer asks Esther/Abraham well what about being Vegan isnt that better for your health then eating meat/animals? and Abraham replies something like it is fine to eat meat, the animals come into this life knowing and happily sacrificing their own physical life.

This really shocked me, I was kind of expecting her to say something like raw foods or vegan foods are the healthiest but it seems like your "thoughts or beliefs on wheither a food is good for you or not" is what matters.
I havent heard them mention that ideally we should be vegan or raw so far. What does everyone or anyone think of this? ???
So is Esther/ Abraham saying that if we truly believe that we are slim, healthy and ageless we can be no matter if we live off pizza/choco/junk foods? or would that be more of a cause and effect thing?
Please let me know im super interested!!! :):)

So, I have been vegetarian for almost a year, and vegan for almost two months. I am ready to take the next step in health, and I want to move to the 80/10/10 diet. I have not read the book yet, but as soon as I am able to buy the book I will read it asap.
So, I have a lot of questions, and in order for my to be successful at this I would really appreciate it if you guys could take some time to answer them.
Here we go:

Basic:
How many times do you eat a day? (ie. snack all day, 3 basic meals, 5 snacks, etc)
How big is a normal meal for you?
How much do you eat in an average day?
What do you eat in an average day?
How much vegetables do you eat in a day?
What vegetables and fruit are a necessity?
What would a normal week worth of groceries be for you?
Do you eat all your meals mono, or combine foods?
If you combine, what fruits are good to combine and what vegetables are good to combine? (Would combining honeydew, cantaloupe, grapes, and pineapple be okay?)
Can you drink green, black, and/or white tea (all have caffeine)
If not, is there some kind of tea that you can make that is okay?
What brand of water do you drink?
How much water do you drink?
Is it okay to eat fruit not completely ripe, or it is necessary to eat them ripe?
How many calories do you need to take in during a day (I still want to loose weight)?
Is a food like hummus okay?
What are some good recipes that are a bit more savory?
How long should it take to eat a normal meal (ie how fast do you eat?)?
How of a time should you leave between going to bed and your last meal?
Is buying pre-cut fruit okay, or is it better to buy whole?

Exercise:
How many calories should I try to burn exercising daily?
Other than running, walking, and biking what are some easy exercises to do (that are low impact on knees)?
Is there a certain amount of time I should have between exercising and eating?

Hello everyone out there,I am fairly new to the low fat 80/10/10 lifestyle but I am feeling really good about it.I was previously a high fat raw foodist in early 2008 but gave up because I was becoming to weak and obviously not getting enough nutrition from all the nuts and gourmet foods I was eating and reading about. I felt as though I had given up hope, until about I suppose a month ago when I decided to look further into it and perhaps give it another try.I then cam across the 80/10/10 diet and this website, I decided to research further and soon after that jump right back in and have been feeling better than ever...I was wondering if anyone had any advice about dinners though, I much prefer fruit quite simply but I feel as though I should be eating more greens, however, it seems as though I can't stand eating salads...I tried a couple of dressings and combinations but I just can't seem to stomach them at all. I recently ordered a vitamix to make smoothies and otherwise but I was wonder if anyone had any advice until it arrives, or if I feel like I need to make a dinner with some chewing and substance? Sometimes I like to prepare things as well, like I have roomates that eat all cooked and it seems to be a time to socialize in the kitchen while preparing...Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated... Also has anyone else ever had these issues when first starting out? Does it get easier to just have a plain salad? - The greens just don't taste good to me without all the salt and stuff yet I am thinking?..?...Thanks so much for any advice! Tory.
