However, I live in Canada and such a lifestyle is pretyy expensive (I hope to oneday build a greenhouse when I own my own home).

So, in the meantime, I was thinking raw til 4! I look at Freelees results and I'm just in awe, and have also really struggled with other diets.

My only concern is the smoothies. I've heard of studies that say smoothies are actually not very good for you, and that eating the foods in whole food form is most ideal... But when I try to cram in as many calories without the aid of smoothies I find it very challenging...

Hoping to get advice :)

The doctor said some balloon sinus surgery (which I forgot what it was called) was the only fix for it. But the problem is, he's a college student and has to pay out of pocket over $4000 for this! Can someone give me tips on how to help him? And also note he is very overweight and follows a SAD diet but has been eating less meat and stuff ever since we became buds lol
image.png

Hey everyone- My name is Nick, I'm from the US, and I've gone through phases of being a vegetarian and then vegan. I ended up falling off of it because I was not educating myself fully, and ended up malnourished. When my attention was brought to a raw diet, I was immediately intrigued, and felt that it made sense to me. I've struggled endlessly with digestive issues, and want to feel good knowing that I am doing my body good.

It has been about two weeks on a mostly raw/raw til 4 style way of living. A lot of people say that this lifestyle does not have to be expensive, but I find myself spending quite a bit of money. Yes, granted, I did stop huffing on an electronic cigarette (saving me about $60 a week), and I'm not going out to restaurants, so these little bits definitely help keep some cash in my pocket.

It seems that I'm eating a lot of oranges in the morning, usually followed by a banana smoothie, and then I bring about 64 oz of smoothie with me to work. When I get home I'll have a cooked meal, hang out, and then sleep. Yes, there are issues with the way my day is setup. I work in the restaurant industry as a server (no, not ideal, but it has to work for now), and my schedule is more like wake up at 11am, and be at work from around 4pm to midnight or so.

I'm here looking for advice, tips, tricks, helpful/intelligent conversation, and whatever else we all may have to offer one another! I'm currently reading Doug Graham's 80/10/10. Some issues I find are: cravings for sweets (cakes, cookies)... also things like ranch dressing... It has been about 2 weeks, but I feel like it's breaking an addiction!

Thanks, and looking forward to meeting all of you!

Nick

Anyway...

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy without cataplexy two years ago. Most people think of narcolepsy as a joke, as it is portrayed in movies, but it's not funny to people who have it.

After suffering from excessive daytime exhaustion for years I had a sleep study which revealed that I fall almost immediately into REM sleep when I fall asleep and contrary to popular belief, more REM sleep is NOT better when you don't get enough "deep" or "slow wave" sleep. I refused to accept this diagnosis because the prognosis is terrible. "No cure" and "no known cause" but suspected to be autoimmune related and brought on by a virus or a trauma, generally in ages 15-20 is when it begins to manifest.

I stopped taking adderall 4 months ago, and the sleeping pills I was on, because I am trying to become healthy, but I have little energy or motivation to even shower, let alone stick to the raw til 4 diet (as much as I want and intend to, getting to the store is even a large task for me right now). This is not withdrawal. This is something wrong with my body or brain that was there before adderall ever came around.

My question is: has anyone cured narcolepsy with the raw til 4 or HCRV lifestyle? I so want this to be the solution but everything I read screams against it. They claim that a ketogenic diet (basically paleo) has helped narcolepsy patients. Nothing seems to help me. I eat a generally healthy vegetarian diet. I'm trying to find the motivation and inspiration to stick with raw til 4 but it's very hard with my poor sleep and extremely low energy levels. I know it's a shot in the dark to find someone with narcolepsy on here, but please...someone, anyone...inspiration please?!???

I made a new friend today(online) and he is telling me I should try antidepressants/ anti anxiety medication. He studied psycology in college and told me I likely have a chemical imbalance. I don't deny that but I think/know it can be remedied with fresh fruit/rawtil4, exercise, sunshine, etc. I always feel amazing after I do those things, BUT I am broke, and exhausted... I just can't get the fruit in... I don't even have the energy to apply for food stamps... (I don't want to rely on them, but don't have shame in using that aid the help with my life) anyways... my life is just an endless list of tasks, I don't want to get a job, until I sell all my clutter/useless possessions, I can't sell those things until I get a better working laptop, I can't get a better laptop cause I'm broke>< I am so tired and confused all the time... but enough of that i don't want pity... I am just wondering if you think I should use the chemical drugs that I may be able to get for free from my dad's health insurence. What damage will this do to my body and can it be detoxed out? I just need the energy to get shit done in my life... I'm tired of being a loser living at home... fruit is ideal... but I have zero dollars... today all I had was two fish tacos someone left in the fridge. Other than minimal plant foods my parents buy, I live on rice. I feel like I am just surviving day to day... and have no energy.... anyways... I may try these pills, my friend was really incouraging me to. Even though I hate pills...

Please tell me why they are unhealthy... I may not sound very smart but I am (once again, just tired..) I can understand the science of the pills and all that. Please link some legit articles.. I plan to take these pills, accomplish my goals, get a steady job for a while, ease myself off and then with the money from my job I can overload my system with top quality plants foods/fruit.... also i can finally buy that road bike I've been dreaming of... and a new laptop to make youtube videos... etc... i can finally start living my life! Traveling, etc..

So I get home late and go out very early. I try to distance myself from junk foods as much as I can because I really want to be healthy and fit but after school when I go to the institute where I'm preparing for uni I get soooo hungry, and apples and bananas don't seem so appealing as they do during the day.

So I go to the store with my friends and buy oreos, because they're pretty much the only vegan junk food that's easily bought in any store and that's actually affordable (because I don't know about your countries, but where I live being vegan costs A LOT)

So yeah, I really want to stop feeling like I "need" junk food, even if I know my body and soul don't,

any suggestions on what I can replace them with during my late study hours?

(sorry for the long post, whoopsies!)

cheers

I guess I just made this discussion/conversation for anyone who has a complaint or a little bit of a rant for those who aren't vegan. For example, my brother is definitely an egg eater and a meat eater! Every night at 11 I wake up because the smell of eggs fill up the house. He eats seven eggs at 11 o'clock. it drives me so insane! And he doesn't clean his pan afterwards, so there's egg sitting in the pan sitting in the sink all night. So when you wake up the whole house smells like rotten eggs! I want to puke every morning LOL and I just can't stand it! Does anyone else have any rants? Hopefully I'm not the only one

I know there are plenty of people who are reading this and are like, "TELL YOUR DANG FAMILY!!". But its really hard for me. Probably because i'm in this completely alone. Anyways, the reason i have to tell them NOW is because were heading to D.C. in around 10 days and i'm so excited to go again (went to the inauguration last year). The problem is, I can't just go buy 10 bananas for breakfast and lunch! They'll probably flip when they figure out that I eat fruit for lunch. Any words of wisdom for any of these situations?

 Much Appreciated! :)

At my last naturopathic appointment I was told we need to stabilize things in 6 months to a year, at the latest. I have MCAD (mast cell activation disease), which is causing a host of symptoms and sensitivities including IBS, leaky gut, being sensitive most foods and chemicals, hot air, hot water, stress, some forms of excercise, histamine intolerance, salicylate sensitivity, allergies etc. Im only 22 and have been eating loads of veggies for years, rarely eating meat and no rancid oils or anything. I went paleo for a while, anti candida diet, vegetarian, sugar free etc. Its all just gotten worse. Ive tried almost every natural supplement out there and react to most.

To get back to my question, I need some advice on where to start? There are only a few fruits that I can eat without reacting: Bananas, Mangos, and peeled purreed golden delicious apples, and a few dates when blended with bananas or mangos.

I have a hard time with raw veggies unless juiced.

Is there an anti inflammatory protocol for those of us with these issues? I go back and forth between thinking maybe i should try banana island, then thinking maybe it would be better for my body to ease into it more slowly?

If anyone has any advice I would SO appreciate the help :)

How wonderful to find a community of people dedicated to living in true health!
