However, I live in Canada and such a lifestyle is pretyy expensive (I hope to oneday build a greenhouse when I own my own home).

So, in the meantime, I was thinking raw til 4! I look at Freelees results and I'm just in awe, and have also really struggled with other diets.

My only concern is the smoothies. I've heard of studies that say smoothies are actually not very good for you, and that eating the foods in whole food form is most ideal... But when I try to cram in as many calories without the aid of smoothies I find it very challenging...

Hoping to get advice :)

I do like cinnamon but maca just over-rides it by far, and carob for that matter.
I'm going to stop using maca now for a while and probably will stop all together as i just dont know how many times i should have it in the week.
Because of this, i need something to make my smoothie 'tasty'. I quoted tasty as even though it already is, i like having added tastes!
I'm okay on carob but its not my fave. Cinnamon is nice but i feel like the spices i have, aren't showing cinnamon in its best light... every cinnamon jar tastes different?!

SO does anyone know any nice spices to add in that will be nice?!
Thanks!
XxX

The only exceptions when I make datorade, that's always perfect.I depend on smoothies for my meals during the day, as I work chaotic retail 7 days a week and they just simplify my life. I blend for as little as possible, I rarely use the high speed (I pulse by using the 10 speed back and forth from 1 - 10 swiftly). I've searched and searched online and there are literally no videos dedicated to proper use of the Vitamix! Of course there are hundreds of HCRV smoothie recipe videos but they edit out the blending process.I want to love this machine, please help!!!

Recently I have been looking at what Dr. Esselstyn had to say about green smoothies and it has concerned me. He said:

"Avoid smoothies. The fiber is so finely pureed and rapidly swallowed without the benefits of mixing with helpful bacteria in the mouth. The sugar is separated from the fiber of the fruit, bypasses salivary digestion and results in a surge of glucose. The fructose enhances inflammation, hypertension and endothelial injury. Chew your food."

http://www.heartattackproof.com/qanda.htm

This does not seem to be completely accurate as I have seen others thrive on smoothies that contain fruit and vegetables. Some seem to agree with Dr. Esselstyn such as Jeff Novick, however; others like Dr. Furhman seem to think otherwise. He said:

"Vegetable juices and green smoothies (also called blended salads) both have a place in the Nutritarian diet. Both are great ways to get more raw leafy greens into your diet, in addition to your usual salads."

https://www.drfuhrman.com/library/better_for_health.aspx

I would appreciate if someone could shed some light on this. I have had serious lethargy issues (mostly from insomnia) resulting in me developing an addiction to so-called energy drinks and the likes.

Yesterday I got my first big tray of bananas and I'm pushing though it. Had to put half of them in the freezer. I've tackled the green smoothie monster head-on (even with a crappy blender LOL). My partner is getting into it as well and even the kids. I haven't had an energy drink in a couple of weeks now so that's great.

I think the biggest thing I've noticed so far is better quality sleep. No surprises there. The was posted Jan 26 of this year, so I would assume this is fairly recent. In the time span of about 42:00-45:00, he mentions that people should avoid things such as orange juice and apple juice because of the fructose. He also said that he didn't like smoothies because it separates the sugar from the fiber and then you drink it and your blood sugar spikes.

What do you think of this?

I am a big fan of smoothies and like them just as much as whole fruit. Shouldn't I trust my body, my taste buds, to know how much or if I need greens right now?

Another question, the Boutenko's use EVERY type of green in there smoothies including cruciferous. I would never munch down a bunch of kale or any bitter greens, therefore I feel like I'm not meant to eat it. Pretty much the only 'acceptable' (http://rawschool.com/best-raw-foods/) green is romaine which would make an awful smoothie I would think.

http://rawschool.com/2011/do-we-need-to-eat-greens/

Nora's (above article) speculation for why we don't really need to eat a bunch of greens feels very vague. Yes, I agree with respecting your taste buds, but the paragraph about us being a gentle, non violent species therefore we're meant to exclusively eat fruit doesn't make any sense.

I'm just sick, desperate, and conflicted.

Knowledge, articles, opinions, thoughts would be appreciated.

Ruby

I started out with lots of fruit in the morning, had a soup for lunch, lots of smoothies. I ate so much and yet I couldnt get satisfied. Here were some things I experienced:

Cravings for cooked fatty foods. Even the smell of my boyfriend's chicken was appealing! (yes, I'm ashamed )

When I was hungry I would eat fruit but the sugar was just too much for me towards lunch time that all I wanted to eat was veggies.

For dinner I ended up eating a whole avocado and a salad with tahini dressing.

In total today I've had around 2 avocados, 2 tablespoons of tahini and a handful of sprouted pumpkin seeds as far as fats go. (I just love avocados!)

I dont really like the way I feel now. I noticed a difference between eating all fruit and greens and eating fats. When I eat the fats I definitely feel more sated but I feel like the food is just not getting digested.

My question is how do I combat those cravings? Will they go away? I really did put down a crapload of fruit, for real. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Or maybe this is normal? Help!

However, as I was "chewing" my drink, i could feel it scracthing my tongue a bit. My nose started running a little tiny bit. This usually happens when I eat unripe mango. There was also apple juice, orange, and banana in it. Where these fruits not ripe? Here's the question, though...Does anyone here drink green smoothies?

Since reading Victoria's books Green For Life and Green Smoothie revolution some months ago, I have had around 8-10 cups of green smoothies daily, often creating a mixture of bananas and/or blueberries, apples, dates and dark leafy greens.

I'm at the point now where I salivate when thinking, or physically coming into contact with any type of green leafy vegetable. I've taken to eating edible wild greens and enjoy them tremendously.

I use a vitamix blender to break down the tough cell walls of the greens that I eat and I simply cannot imagine giving up these delicious smoothies and losing the amazing benefits of dark leafy greens!

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I enjoy leafy greens just as much as I enjoy fruit.

is it just me, or do smoothies oxidize really quickly!?

As my tastebuds get more pure, I find that I am really sensitive to taste changes while blending foods.

I LOVE smoothies and they work for me really well.

But I find that I have to drink a smoothie quickly if I do not want to taste it oxidizing.

I find that banana smoothies oxidize the quickest. I usually chew my smoothies and i love eating slow, but at the same time the slower i eat, the more oxidized it tastes.

Does anyone else experience this?!

I try to blend slow and not too powerful but no matter what speed i bend at, it seems to always oxidize. High speed definitely oxidizes quicker though.

I have a vitamix.

Any tips, advice, or thoughts on this!?
