Hi,I think most of us want more energy to do more things right?Hopefully better things like maybe try to help out others, planet and our little friends. Many are unsung heroes in standing up and providing better lives for our friends.I will provide updates on what is going on in the help our friends world. Here is one for now.( By the way the animals I will be posting about won't be the ones at the local pub or strip club ;-)------------------------------------------------------------------------------this just in from twyla:=============As you know, Natural Valley Farms - the horse slaughterhouse inNeudorf, Saskatchewan - closed in February. When word of its closurespread, hundreds of horse supporters from around the world sent intributes, memorials and poems in honour of the slain horses. Wedelivered the memorials yesterday. To see footage of the event clickhere:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T-b8JRayUsTo read about howworkers and management at the facility attempted to stop us, click"more info" along the right-hand side of the video.=============i've copied the harrassment right here:"Natural Valley Farms, later renamed Natural Meat Company, slaughteredover 100,000 Canadian and American horses from 2007-2009. The plant wasclosed mid-February, 2009 for animal welfare violations, environmentaldegradation and food safety concerns.Horse supporters from as far away as Australia and Europe sentmemorials, poems, tributes and words of kindness which we delivered tothe horses' remains on April 13, 2009.We were harassed at the rendering pit, and on the gravel road back toHwy 1, attempted to be run off the road at high speeds (130 km/hr) forover 30 km by 2 men from the plant in a large grey, extended cab truck. These same men were involved in the senseless and brutal slaughter ofhorses (see CBC National's expose "No Country for Horses"), includingfoals as we discovered in February, 2008. Why should they be any kinderto humans?Twyla"

Point Pelee National Park Halts Shooting of Nesting Cormorants
Point Pelee National Park abruptly announced late Thursday night (May
7, 2009) that they have halted shooting of nesting Double-crested
Cormorants at Middle Island for this year. Staff at Point Pelee
National Park killed 1600 birds this year, approximately 50% less of
their target of 3000-4000 dead birds. The Park gave no reason for
truncating their shooting program.
But the announcement came on the eve of organized protests scheduled at
their annual fundraising dinner and at the height of the park's annual
Festival of Birds. The announcement also coincided with a media trip
scheduled for Friday May 8, 2009 aimed at witnessing the massive
disturbance to other migratory birds during shooting periods, and a
complaint filed by Cormorant Defenders International to the Canadian
Wildlife Service asking for an investigation under the Migratory Bird
Act regarding the harassment of other non-target migratory species.
Migratory birds are under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Wildlife
Service.
Regardless of the announcement, protests at Point Pelee National Park
went forward as planned and will continue throughout the summer since
the park intends to continue killing thousands of cormorants next
year. Attendance at the 'Keep the Songs Alive' annual Point Pelee
National Park fundraiser was lower than past years, and we hope the low
turnout is indicative of the lack of public support for the park's
brutal wildlife killing program.
The Peaceful Parks will be back at Point Pelee National Park during the
Victoria Day long weekend.

this means that when france and italy fashion houses no longer carry seal furs, neither will most of the world. to get the EU to pass this resolution has taken several years of lobbying by people like bridget curran (who has been mentioned earlier) throughout the world.
another of these unsung heroes is canada's ericka ceballos who has one of the most imaginative and effective approaches to campaigning. she goes to europe and talks to politicians directly! her efforts over the years has been directly responsible for the generation of compassionate attitudes of many EU meps!
here is ericka's website: http://catcahelpanimals.org
(if you see a brown background you are viewing the old site, because the nameservers in your area haven't yet updated to point to the new site ... the updating should be complete within the next 24 hrs)
some of you know that a call was sent out for more people to participate in the cbc's thumbs program and our people responded as you can see by the recent advantage gained by the anti-seal slaughter contigent there.
what you may not have noticed is that a few miscreants up there are engaged in personal attacks against people opposed to the seal slaughter. most of these attacks are directed against the courageous bridget curran of the atlantic canadian anit-sealing coalition: http://www.antisealingcoalition.ca/
bridget gets the brunt of it because she's had the guts to become a public figure carrying the banner out on the east coast - sauron's domain if ever there was one.
individuals such as beckyallbarf are saying idiotic things like bridget was responsible for bus driver dann little's death simply because she commented to the media that his behaviour of leaving his bus and harassing the anti-seal slaughter demo was dangerous and inappropriate.
i think if some of you can post to counter these desperate efforts it would be good. however, it would also be excellent if you'd click on the Report abuse button on these clearly abusive posts and let the cbc know that they are destroying the decorum of the forum not to mention allowing cowardly bullying.
we may not be able to protect the seals just yet, but we can certainly protect our own!
Thanks for your advice prad, you obviously know your stuff :)
I know every little bit counts, but to me there is a feeling of urgency when there are such horrors going on and more drastic action needs to be taken. Wouldn't it be great if someone could hack into prime time TV and play Earthlings, then people would be forced to face the issues at hand! I am drawn to the idea of open rescues but will have to look into that more, also I am currently locked down by my son(breastfeeding every 4-5 hours) so may have to wait a while to get as hands on as doing open rescues. I send family and friends emails like the attachment below and offer to lend them Earthlings etc. but they have no interest and almost seem to see it as a joke(yeah ha ha very funny). I am still amazed at people's ignorance and laziness (yes still), but it is amazing to know that there are people such as yourself who are not afraid to face what is really happening and fight for other animals of the Earth.
Thanks again for your advice,
Much Love,
Ema
that is an interesting idea about prime time. one of the problems that we face is that maintaining status quo is the media's credo. as a result, they don't like to put anything on that people "don't like" - unless of course it has shock value in order to raise ratings. and of course, if you shock people enough, they just desensitize and don't care. the real difficulty is that media doesn't want people to change lifestyle - network sponsors don't want to support veg stuff. that's why roddenbury had so much trouble even getting to do things his way on the original star trek series back in the stifling sixties.
your family and friends should appreciate what you are doing for them with your emails.
as you'll see from the wikipedia link, it is a good idea to wait before jumping into to open rescues. depending upon the situation appropriate preparation and resources may be needed.
if you want to, for now, do things via the convenience of computer there are many things i can suggest - as in the post just above yours. if you have skills in a particular area (eg nutrition, legal, writing, researching) various initiatives can be joined or started.
admittedly, they are only little things, but one can be comforted by these words attributed to mother teresa: "we do no great things. we can only do small things, but with great love."
