I have been on low fat high carbs for a month now and my acne did not disappear. It wouldn't also on a 3-month "fruits plus high fat from nuts and calories restriction" diet.

It got better but still it is not cured. Last few days I had to add some steamed potatos as backup to my diet (with curry, no salt, sauce made from parsley and tomatos). Maybe curry is the reason? Or I should avoid even potatos?

I get lots of sleep, at least 7-8 hours.

I drink a lot of water (ca. 3 liters per day).

I work hard. At home at computer and as a yoga teacher so there is not much stress compared to my previous occupations but tones of work.

Before this diet I have tried every possible medication, natural medication, supplements, affirmation, medidation and a bunch of weird stuff so please do not propose that kind of things ;)

  • Hi Paulina,

Have you noticed improvement on your skin?

  • Carrots are always good for the skin BTW.

  • Thank you for all the replys! I think that next thing to do for me is try to go 100% raw for longer period of time (I have managed to to it for a month), maybe banana island, and be more PATIENT :D

    • If your skin has gotten worse, that is definitely detox, it totally fits in with the pattern of things getting worse before they get better because your system is flushing out old toxins, so hang on in there, and lots and lots of good quality water will definitely help. Believe me I have been exactly where you are and now my skin is the best it has ever been. Good luck. :)

      • Thank you :)

  • hi paulina,

it took me about half a year to heal my acne, which actually showed up when i ate high fat raw vegan. the best results showed during my banana island! it helped A LOT!

It just takes time. The cleaner you eat, the better it gets.

    all the best to you!

    • Thank you :)
If it took you 6 months I know that I need to be more patient :D

Banana island is a good idea, I will think about it and try it for sure.

  •

Hi Paulina, I used to have exactly the same problem. When I was younger I found removing dairy products, wheat and processed refined sugars helped a lot. Before I came to a high raw food diet I used to think my problem was candida, but I didn't really understand the body as a whole system and how it dealt with toxins.
Firstly, you need to understand that your skin actually acts as your third kidney. Your lymph system is how the body expels toxins to the outside world through the kidneys, and unfortunately for some of us that means through the skin. Problems can also come from unbalanced hormones in the various glands, the adrenal gland and pancrea in particular, caused by toxicity, very often predominantly diet. One problem in one area of the body leads to one in the other. Skin problems never happen without an underlying cause. It's like a domino effect. The condition of our skin is usually the end result of what's going underneath
The goods news is that a high raw fruit and veg diet is VERY detoxifying but this can mean sometimes the problem can actually get worse before it gets better or not improve as quickly as we would like. Watch to see if there is any pattern with the fruits you're eating. If you eat predominantly citrus fruits you may find that your skin will break out more because they are highly astringent and effective at drawing toxins out and consequently flushing them out through the system, i.e. your skin. I certainly found this to be true in the early stages. I went on a lot of orange mono meals deliberately to detox and my skin suddenly broke out more than usual.
The good news is that if this is the root cause of your problem then it won't last. I can honestly say my skin has NEVER been this good, but I did have to persevere.
A couple of extra tips, if you want to slow the detox down a bit, add more greens.

Also, when it comes to water quality is absolutely vital, I cannot stress this enough. I NEVER drink tap water, if I do it literally shows up in my skin a few days later. I personally found that filtered and bottled water made a huge difference because they are not loaded with substances that hinder the detox but help.

I hope this has helped to reassure you. I put most of these theories to the test and found them to be true, based on my personal experience, but it is just my experience.
As for the oxalate containing foods, some people are more sensitive to them than others, it depends on the preexisting condition of your digestive system because they predominantly agitate already damaged and inflamed colon tissue. And one, last thing, I don't know why everyone keeps saying it's a cruciferous vegetable, spinach is NOT a cruciferous vegetable! It is a flowering plant originating from Asia, but yes, it does contain a high level of oxalates. But like all these things, it is a case of trial and error.
I really hope your skin clears for you, I can really relate to how distressing it can be to have skin problems, they were the bane of my life for along time, as well as interstitial cystitis, but they both have cleared up in a way I never thought possible. I'll be interested to see how you get on. :)

• Many thanks for your post!
I needed some reassurance because it is quite discouraging to have new spots on my face. My friends and family think that my diet is crazy, restrictve etc. And except that I feel great one cannot see the effects of this diet. I have new spots and I gained "weight". I dont mind the "weight" I understand now that I have done harm to my body during years of calorie restricting. But the spots... ;)
I cannot explain others that this diet is so good and tell them "look at my face, it has improved". Maybe I will need to wait few months more to be able to prove to my friends that this is the way to go.
Even though it seems crazy to have more spots/gain weight and claim this is the best diet for human beeing I somehow FEEL it is best :D

I have been vegan for 1,5 year before starting 811 and I have always eaten meat only on occasions. I have been also restricting diary for ca. 2 years before going vegan. So... my diet was not that bad before.

    •
One last note, someone has just explained to me why certain oxalate containing greens can be very irritating to the skin, so definitely try cutting them out and see what happens.
