So we are travelling to Ecuador soon and we want to acquire as much knowledge about the country as possible.
When searching online, everywhere they stress out about Ecuador being country not so safe when it comes to stealing your stuff etc.
We are first going to Guayaquil which they said is the worst together with Quito when it comes to robbery.
Do you guys have any more tips about Ecuador, is it true that it is not so safe?

I have been 3 times in Ecuador (8 months total), I felt quite safe. But I was most of the time at Terra Frutis so not representative for all Ecuador.
Is it safe? But what is safe? Life is not safe. Anyway I think it is highly dependent on where you go exactly, what you do. Even Guayquil, like most (all?) big cities some places are safer than others.
I'd suggest getting the Lonely Planet guide, from what I've seen they are pretty reliable at indicating area are less safe and should be avoided.
