About a year ago, I became interested in alternative medicine, instantly attracted to the idea that humans are far more complex and beautiful than believed to be. 


Coming into the raw food diet, I had no obvious health issues. In fact, at check-ups I was always dismissed as exceptionally healthy- active, average weight, no allergies. More publicly, I was always viewed to be the well-rounded girl always labeled as “smiley” for my consistently happy attitude.

Funny how superficial our entire beliefs of health are. A person who is viewed by doctors, friends, family, as healthy, yet still feels anything but, is left dead ended by society’s rulings and certainly will look to empty vices for a comfortable illusion of wellness.

In my case, throughout high school I struggled in a very unhealthy relationship with food.  Crazy to ponder over now, but I became vegetarian back then mainly because having the option to eat from fewer food groups appealed to me. During this time I was in no way comfortable in my body, and would turn to many distractions in order to feel complete.

Sadly, this “lose weight/diet/restrict” mindset is labeled as normal by our society. After having switched to raw food, I look back and see how EXTREMELY unhealthy I actually was. I realize how the “normal” was a mere droplet of murky water when the whole ocean was waiting for me.

I had first heard about the raw lifestyle from a raw foodie himself who I happened across at a church convention. At the time I remember thinking he was absolutely bonkers, yet these thoughts were sharply counteracted by his undeniable energy and radiance. The backwardness of it all lit a spark of interest within me, which in the rush of life, quickly was forgotten.

Many years later, in the midst of my darkest struggles with well-being, a miraculous light of awareness was shone on my life. For the first time, I decided I wanted to feel better. I didn’t want to obsess over food and body image any longer. I just didn’t know how to change my mindset, I didn’t know where to begin. Knowing there was no way I would go back to the “normal” way of eating (processed-mystery-additive-toxic food), I didn’t know where to turn.

This was when I accidentally stumbled upon a video of raw food celebrity Megan Elizabeth making “grandma’s oatmeal cookies”. Instantly her energy flashed me back to the blissful raw foodie I had met years ago. Realizing they were onto something, and seeing the synchronicity as no coincidence, I decided if I were to change my lifestyle, I would change it in the best way possible.

Now, here I am, finally understanding what real health and wellness. Before raw food, I hadn’t even realized how much was wrong with me, all sprouting from the wrong diet. Mood swings, energy roller-coasters, cramps, acne- all are gone, but far more importantly, my consistent wellness is at a high I hadn’t even known existed before. Going raw means going straight to the roots of mind, body & soul and transforming everything.

This is the way life should be lived. Not worrying about food, ENJOYING it. The body is a masterpiece, a symphony of God’s creation, with great ability to heal itself. All we really have to do is nurture our bodies, and they will perform for us. On raw food we thrive in every single way. Entirely more than in the health aspect, because it causes us to rid of pre-established ideas and to pave our own way. 

Life is for exploring and discovering, and i want all people to see the true beauty of what a raw lifestyle can do! :)
