My tropical fruits sometimes mold before they ripen

Hey there

Sometimes the fruits that I set on the counter to ripen start to mold before they fully ripen. It seems to happen with tropical fruits, ie pineapple, papaya, mango, cantaloupe. It's a bummer because I have to eat it before it goes bad, but it isn't always as ripe as I would like it to be. Is my kitchen too warm? FWIW I don't live in a tropical region, so the fruits aren't local.

Thanks!

  • Not sure about the mold itself, but depends how many days you're talkin' here. Papayas can mold slightly often, not unusual, nor a problem. The problem may be in the choice of fruits. Pineapple doesn't ripen after picking. Papayas and mangos -- if they're fully green and just picked too early, mold or no mold, they will not ripen, nor will many other fruit really.
