Hello everyone! :)
So I just had a question about high protein. I have been mostly raw for 3 months now but I like to incorporate some cooked plant foods here and there… which leads me to my question...
Will too much protein make me gain weight on this lifestyle?
I generally stay with raw monomeals all day until I get home from work and sometimes have a smoothie, sometimes cooked food. I've been obsessed with sweet peas… and i mean i eat them every day for a month! And i eat ALOT of them… I think I could beat out Durian in a contest lol.
Especially now that I'm getting into beans and lentils (Buckwheat which is a Lithuanian MUST HAVE). They're all considered to be super healthy and I make them all at home from scratch (and sometimes add a low fat low sodium pasta sauce on top), but they're really high in protein...
I haven't been stepping on the scale that much but I just want to know if anyone knows about having too much protein when eating all the carbs you care for.. especially when beans and buckwheat are both high carb high protein!
So can I keep eating like this?

I love lentils too, and although I didn't eat as many carbs as I will be now, I lost weight while eating them. Lentils have a high carb content too and they're so filling it's hard to eat a ton of protein from them. I can only manage 3/4 cup cooked with my potatoes/pasta which is only about 20g of protein and a significant amount of carbs while staying low fat. If you like your lentils, keep eating them, try to combine foods in ways that aid in digestion (definitely eat faster digesting foods before the lentils) and just see how you feel. You're body will let you know if something isn't right with your diet and you can tweek it from there.
Wow thank you so much for the replies everyone! seriously great responses :)
Doctors Neal Barnard and Joel Fuhrman both recommend eating plenty of legumes. They're also very slender despite both being in their 60's.
Buckwheat has about the same amount of protein as has wheat and both have significantly less protein than legumes do. I love buckwheat having lived in Central Europe for a while. Apparently it has all essential amino acids required by humans and is gluten free as well (not that gluten concerns me though).
Seeing that you eat raw mono meals until dinner it would be very difficult for you to consume more than 10% of your total calorie requirements from protein.
Protein has about the same amount of calories per gram (4) as have carbs. It's fat that will lead to weight gain if eaten in excess.
So basically you have nothing to worry about.

Yes, buckwheat is totally underrated. Delicious, satiating, and digests great.
Hey Jackie,
Check out this link in the 30bad Welcome wagon by Ross Horne Freebie sensational book called 'Improving Pritikin'. Read through and it will hopefully give you the answers you are looking for regarding the Vegan Protein question and the question regarding how much is too much.
Cheers
