I'm anemic (hemoglobin tested at 9) and I know I've been lax with getting my greens in. So I've researched a bit and am getting 15 mgs a day of iron (bananas, dates, raisins, lentils and green veg's mostly) am watching my folate and vitamin C and am getting a b12 shot in a few days. Everyone is telling me that no matter what I do I'll need to put meat back into my diet.
Looking for some reassurance from fellow fruitish vegans that iron levels can be brought up vegan-style.......anyone?

HA! and she was eating junk vegan, which I avoid for the most part. Makes me feel so much better all the support I get here, especially because my kids don't eat meat (except one eats haddock and one eats cheese) this a good subject for me to study.
Check this out. Give up the meat, you don't need it. Read this article, http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.php
that's fantastic, thank you.
So do you guys double your intake of iron? I've been making sure I get 15 mgs per day - sounds like from this article that you need 1.8 times more iron? Or is that only if you aren't eating high vit C diet?
