Hey, I think I'm having some serious trouble with my sleep, and it may or may not have something to do with the raw vegan diet but I'll try anyway and see if anyone has some input.
The thing is, I don't feel very rested when I wake up. And I have those dark circles under my eyes. During the day, I often yawn, for example during the lectures in school. And I don't feel very energetic, and not very motivated to do much. Also, during the last year I've been feeling depressed from time to time. But that could be because of something else.
I do sleep for 9-10 hours every night, sometimes more on the weekend. I go to bed mostly around 9pm, and I think I fall asleep between 10 and 10:30. And I wake up mostly around 8am from my alarm clock (need to get up for school). I don't work out very much, so I feel that I shouldn't need more sleep than that. I cycle about 15km five days a week.
I think I never enter deep sleep, or very little at least, because it feels like I'm dreaming all night. Everytime I wake up to pee (2-3 times) I remember that I've dreamt. I guess I could have slept deeply before the dreaming, but I feel like I'm in a more consious state all the time, especially towards the end of the night.
One theory I have, that may be causing this trouble is that I've been a mouth breather at least for a significant part of my life, perhaps my whole life (I'm 21 now). I'm doing pretty good breathing through the nose during the day, but not during the night. Maybe I have sleep apnea or something. I think I will go to a doctor about this soon though.
I can't remember that I've ever been sleeping perfectly, but I think my sleep has gotten worse during the last few weeks, and I don't know why. Or I've just simply not noticed it untill now.
I don't expect much help on this, but maybe some of you have had a similar experience or something. Btw, I'm currently raw til' 4, and have been changing between that and fully raw during the last half year.

In addition to the other's advice, I would recommend that you do talk to your doctor about is and see about getting a "Sleep Study" done. It very well could be sleep apnea or something else. I too have been a mouth breather all my life (deviated septum). I've had poor sleep and insomnia since childhood, and it causes such a bad domino effect. Without proper, restful sleep, so many other things take a turn for the worse (energy, depression, memory, concentration, sexual dysfunction, the list goes on).
I actually had Septoplasty & Turbinate Reduction surgery performed yesterday, so I'm really hoping it has a positive impact on my sleep quality and just breathing in general (it's caused me issues during the day with exercise, not being able to get in enough oxygen). The E/N/T doc also suggested some type of laser surgery to open the airway a bit more in my esophagus, but I'm not too keen on that idea. However, I'll still likely have a Sleep Study done to determine if there are additional underlying issues.
Yeah, sleep study sounds good, I'll look in to that! Thanks for sharing your experience! I hope you get well!
Yes if he was eating 4,500 I would have suggested more as per the guidelines I posted above, it's a no brainer.
Not hard at all to get in 4,500 daily. Here is a schedule worth checking out:

Have you had your B12 and vitamin D checked. Also there are those stripes at the drug store that help snorers, they might help your breathing. Wear an eye mask and ear plugs. Also keep your room warm at night.
It sucks to have sleep issues. Make sure you are getting enough greens in your diet.Since you est cooked food try chamomile tea at bedtime.
I tried nasal strips just recently for 9 nights in a row. It certainly made it easier to breath through my nose, but were still breathing through my mouth during the night. But there actually was one day when I felt rested and happy when waking up, although I did sleep for about 11 hours that night. But usually I can't sleep for more than 10.
Yeah, I think I will get an eye mask. Hm, I've always heard your room should be cold at night? :P However mine is pretty warm already.
Will check my B12 and D soon I hope.

Well, I didn't notice much trouble with sleeping before I started eating raw. And I was 99% raw for at least a month before, and I eat much more fruit compared to cooked now than a year ago. So I don't think it has to do with cooked/raw. But I guess I could try and switch to raw for a while if I'm able to, and see if I notice a difference. But I think my problem has to do with other health factors.
how many calories are you eating?
3000-4000 per day
I would increase my calories to 4,500 daily and stay consistent with it for a few weeks and see if this helps.
You might as well list the rest of your info.
