This past Saturday, I and two of my fellow DxE activists went to Triangle VegFest, where we got to speak with the crowd there about going further than just veganism, and becoming animal liberation activists.
Being well aware of people's A) aversion to being told what to do, and B) susceptibility to junk food, we handed out some 250 free vegan brownies in order to reel people in. As you can see from the vendor list in the link above, there were some pretty big names there, including the HSUS, but compared to the traffic we got they were absolutely dwarfed by our presence.
When you get more attention than the big guys, you know you're doing something right! Lots of people seemed interested in getting involved too, so hopefully we'll get to recruit some new activists and get the movement to spread even more.
On top of that, I managed to meet the head of the Triangle Vegetarian Society (which is apparently host of the country's largest vegan thanksgiving dinner... who knew?). He was very impressed with our "Showing of Truth" video and has invited me to do a talk to speak about effective animal liberation activism at one of their events!
So, a lot of good work has been accomplished recently, and even more will be coming soon. I have to say that becoming an activist has helped me to develop my leadership and organizational skills tremendously, and nothing has ever been so gratifying as the work that I'm doing for animal liberation now.
