The cover would definitely be great for a Hallow's Eve theme. The carved banana being sparked the idea to have folks offer images of fruit/veggie sculptures--a sort of visual arts special feature where you play with your food then have the pleasure of eating it afterwards.
This is really exciting - I do think everything of my critique has already been said here, I definitely second Ekin that the colours feel slightly .. lads mag, and could be more bright and fresh, however, it does set itself apart from the hundreds of other bright white and sometimes tacky sky blue and yellow health magazines out there.
the white speech bubble and white headings don't really work with so many other colours I think usually predominately white text or all colours (varying) usually give the reader more of a clear where to look first feel. Quizes - fantastic idea! I really want this magazine!
Also as boring as it sounds I think that the awesome banana man image could be more bold if the text was in columns and slightly small with the dave hestin challenge really slanted and large where it is, .. I think you can play with it forever, its really great, and i think everyone will have an opinion on something to tweak
It's pretty good Freelee....it's edgy ..but my first thought was Halloweenish... I agree with Prad about not having a female presence there. There are so many challenges with women...cooking for a SAD family, fear of fat, and vain as it is...WRINKLES.

lol haha Halloweenish love it! True true, my other friend said it was horror theme-ish ;-D The banana is so cool though! I will change some fonts around and see what what you think.

Well I actually love Halloween so this would be a good color scheme for October :) I like the fonts too. Sept reminds me of "back to school"...so maybe you could do a "back to school the 811 way" sort of thing...? Ha! We could put you in a plaid skirt and white knee highs with a backpack full of bananas!
1. durianriders could use an apostrophe btw -> durianrider's though i don't know if it really matters on a cover so much.
2. one suggestion that occurred to me is that you don't have a female presence there - it's dave, michael, dr and giocomo, so it might be a thought to mix it up a bit though you can always compensate in the next issue i suppose.
