But i'm after the best place where I can buy in bulk (doesn't necessarily have to be organic). I live at home and my mum pays for groceries so I won't be too fussy on organic. From my experiences at Victoria Markets I find that the prices are quite similar to supermarket price and also similar quality, so now I've been buying my produce at the fruit and vegetable market in highpoint, which is great because they have a wide range of good quality produce, however it isn't exactly the cheapest! Would love any input, thank you. :)

Hi Everyone,

The deal…3 trays = 9-10+ kilos (I don’t know the weight until they arrive; they’re usually 3.5 kilos per tray, but could be 3 kilos). I’ve ordered from two different biodynamic growers, so you can try both, to compare.

You can order more trays of course…

In the past, these persimmons have been the most caramelly caramel sauce in the world, barely held together by a skin of delicate caramel glazing. This is once they’ve ripened to perfection, are translucent and falling out of their skins. They’re delicious before this stage, however it usually takes a fortnight or more for them to be ripe enough to eat.

(In the meantime, I still have a 30%-ready-to-eat Fuyu feast left to sell, as already advertised: 3+ glorious kilos of organic (at least 2nd year in conversion) Fuyu/non-astsringent persimmons. Being 13+ kilos for $78 (under half retail price), and just $25 per 3000 calories of delectable treat.)

The soft fibre makes for fabulously textured persimmon/banana/vanilla (if you do vanilla) puddings, or green smoothie puddings.

HOW TO GET THEM:

OPTION 1. PICKUP:

After placing your pre-order, arrange a time to pick up from Camberwell East. Some time 10-6 on a weekday. (Not on a weekend. Also, just to let you know, I don’t usually check my email on Sundays.)

Or if you can only arrive after 6pm on a weeknight, then I can wrap the trays, put them in a rubbish bag to keep the insects out, and leave them outside at your risk. I’ve never had a burglary since I’ve been in this street. I can’t leave them outside during the day.

(Argh section: I admit that in the past I’ve had some customers who don’t turn up, make another time then don’t turn up, etc.; or “just turn up” in case I’m here, when I can’t be interrupted. You’d have to pick them up in the specified timeframe so that you can buy from me in future... thanks.)

Whilst you visit during the day… I’ve also got loads of young nettles, spearmint and chickweed, a lot of malva, dandelion leaves, basil and marjoram. Big bunches for $1, small for .50c, a bit for .25c. (I’m a ‘primary producer’.) Plus got pomegranites, fuji apples, tomatoes, passionfruit and bananas at very nice prices.

OPTION 2. POST:

I can post them to Melbourne Metro for $10.

PAYMENT:

Firstly, you need to contact me to ensure I have stock.

Then pay as soon as you can, to ensure that you get stock and the last of it doesn't get taken by someone else who's enquired.

Payment is credit card at http://www.josender.com.au/Shop/Food

BTW hey, don't look around the site now cos I'm about to edit content and upload more of it…

See ya!

:-)

Joanna

Hi Everyone,

For a persimmon lover, I’ve got 13+ glorious kilos of organic (at least 2nd year in conversion) Fuyu (vanilla) persimmons. 13+ kilos for $78 (under half retail price).

(Also, if I get a quick sale on these, then I’ll be able to sell Hachiya/ astringent persimmons for $75 for 3 trays = approx 10+ kilos. They would be from two different biodynamic growers, for you to compare.)

Why not mono-feast?!! :-) :-) Once you start eating these fuyus, it’s hard to stop…

About 3 kg are perfect for eating right now. They’ll stay firm in the fridge, or will continue to soften and ripen.

The other 10+ kg are nice to eat, but still a bit unripe.

About 9.5 kg are “seconds” i.e. there are tree markings on some of the skins, whilst they taste superb. From my sampling so far, they’re an equal eating choice. The others are officially first grade.

Apart from feasting, they freeze well and dehydrate well.

They’re blended for the the best caramel sauce… oh wow!!! And the soft fibre makes for fabulously textured persimmon/banana/vanilla (if you do vanilla) puddings, or green smoothie puddings.

If you haven't tried them yet, organic Fuyus are delectable, and very caramelly – quite unlike conventional ones.

They’re also calorie-dense which makes them even better value. (A kilo of apples has 520 calories, a kilo of persimmons has 700 calories. $6 per kilo for persimmons is equivalent to $4.46 per kilo for apples). For a 3000 calorie diet, this is just $25 for a full day’s food of the most delectable organic treat...

HOW TO GET THEM:

PICKUP:
They’re yours if you’re the first person to contact me and prepay for them, and can pick them up from Camberwell East, this Friday 11.30am-6pm.

(Or if you can only arrive after 6pm, then I could wrap the cases and leave them outside at your risk. Never had a burglary since I’ve been in this street, but bugs could get to them, though I could leave the cases inside a rubbish bag. I can’t leave them outside during the day.)

(Argh section: I admit that in the past I’ve had some customers who don’t turn up, make another time then don’t turn up, etc.; or “just turn up” in case I’m here, when I can’t be disturbed. You’d have to pick them up in the specified timeframe so that you can buy from me in future... thanks.)

I could possibly split the quantities in half for $45 someone who could be at my place on this time and day. However whenever I’ve sold them, people always tell me they wished they’d bought more…

After that, it’s making a time on a weekday, next week,10-6pm. Leaving outside for after 6pm pickup also an option. (Sorry I’m an early bird and don’t stay up late, and take weekends off.)

POST:
I can post them out to Melbourne Metro for $10.

PAYMENT:

Payment is prepayment by credit card. I’ll give you the details.

I’ve actually got more than 13+ kilos, so if this lot is taken, you can still enquire.

Thanks, I'm really glad to see this forum!!! I look forward to attending meetups in future.

(BTW I used to bring cases of fruit to sell at Melbourne Raw Food Meetup Group get togethers, which was a lot of fun!, but it does turn the whole meetup into a work activity when I want to socialise with friends, and I take weekends off these days.)

See ya!

:-)

Joanna
