Vitamix is great. You can get one of the top ones reconditioned from their website for $400. Everyone I know that is serious about blending goes for the Vitamix. I do not work for them. What is your budget? You can go with a for now blender . I dont have $400 to spend so I have a really cheap hand me down from my grandfather.
When it comes to blenders you have to decide how much you want to spend. If you want a great blender that you will LOVE, then you will be out $400. I really like the Blendtec blender. It uses a blunt blade, so that it crushes the cells in the food, exposing their nutrients. Food seldom gets stuck in it, so I can just turn it on and walk away. It has a built-in intelligence, so it runs its own blending program and stops by itself. It is shorter than the Vitamix, so that it fits under cabinets. I got my Blendtec, when on demo for ~$350 at Costco. Usually you will be out more than that. Nevertheless, many people like the Vitamix.
$400 is a lot to spend even if you can reasonably afford it. I was on the diet for more than a year, before I bought the Blendtec. I used my plain old Osterizer. An Osterizer blender works usually, but it is a pain, because the food gets stuck in it. Once stuck, the blade just spins and no food gets blended. To free the flood, I would have to move the food around with a spoon, shake the blender and/or add lots of water.
There is a Vitamix Ninja at BJs but Im not sure how good that one is compared to one of the $400 ones..

Vitamix and Ninja are two different companies. :) Ninja's are usually like $100 and Vitamix are like $400 typically. My favorite is definitely the Vitamix but a lot of people like the ninja's at their price range. I have small blender that can only fit like five bananas but i'm broke as a joke so I have to make due with what I got for now. There are lots of blender discussions on this website. Top right search blender or blenders and you'll see a lot of discussion that may help you decide.
