Morrisons refused to sell me some very spotty ones and it's quite sad to see them being left on the shelves to sweat and go mouldy in plastic bags because nobody wants them. I hate waste and it looks like there's a lot of it. I want to tell them to take them out of the bags and reduce them for me! Did try but was told they couldn't sell them to me by one guy. Another one did reduce them though, from £1.50 to 44p for a bag. The unbagged bananas are cheaper but always unripe so have to buy those early.

Anyway, the point of this post is to ask if anyone out there knows where I can buy a load of bananas without having the embarrassment of clearing the local supermarket shelf in one go and getting some funny stares to boot.

If not North Wales, then Chester. Do people get deliveries from wholesalers who normally deliver to catering? Please help! :O)

Hi everyone :)

Just wanted to see what peoples take on being tired was?

I only started eating this way at the end of May so as you can imagine I'm still learning and figuring stuff out about my body. I've seen loads of benefits already; clearer skin, less rosacea, whiter eyes, my belly bloating has gone down after the first few weeks. One thing that I can't seem to shake though is tiredness.

I am eating about 2500cals a day, between 80-90% from carbs, eating mostly dates and bananas for breakfast, another type of fruit for lunch and then a big salad for my evening meal. I am usually fine throughout the day but in the evening I am getting so fatigued I haven't been able to anything afterwards. I really want to start to do more exercise in the evening but I am finding that I am eating and then going bed within an hour because I feel like I have no energy.

In the first few weeks I thought this just might have been my body getting used to a different way of eating (after coming from a high paleo diet) but it seems to be continuing.

Do you think it's something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help guys! Really appreciate it :)

You can make bulk orders from Sainsbury's in the U.K. online. An easy way to get lots of bananas without much effort. This cost about £21. Not organic but they are fair-trade.

If you are unfamiliar with ordering online from supermarkets in the U.K. then the process is really as simple as ordering anything else online just with a larger volume of products. They retain your credit card number in the same secure way that Amazon or Paypal do and you make intermittent orders as you please.

When bulk ordering from Sainsbury's the standard practice is to place your bulk order online 7 days in advance of it being delivered (with your other general groceries if you're ordering them too) ring the people who control the online ordering and they will ring the local depot to make sure they will have your bulk order covered in time for delivery.

However…it may not have to actually be that complicated. As the local depot still rang me up the day before delivery to confirm that I really did want 200 bananas. Implying that no extra ordering was made on my behalf and they just made up the order from their general stock. So if you don't want to wait 7 days then it may be easier just to ring up the the particular depot (which is most likely to be the Sainsbury's supermarket closest to you) to confirm that you do want that amount of bananas or whichever other item you are ordering. You can also write notes to pickers to emphasise your confirmation.

I think in the future if a lot of people start ordering large amounts of bananas from Sainsbury's then it would be good if they did something like a 100 banana crate as a single product. I'm going to email this suggestion to them and hopefully something will come of it. But in order for them to be convinced to do it it would require quite a number of people to start ordering the large amounts of bananas or at least to be aware that a large number of people would want them. But with 801010 growing all the time internationally including in the U.K. it will presumably just be a matter of time before a 100 banana crate becomes a common product.

Regarding the ethics of buying from supermarkets, if we are concentrating on one or a small number of products that are not processed (as in a fruit rather than a can of vegetable soup) then it is easier to get transparency on those products especially if they become popular. I personally believe the buying power of supermarkets can be very useful for promoting 801010 as it's difficult to get 100 bananas from your local corner shop.

I do order some organic bananas from a place called Riverford but they are about twice the price. Supermarkets have long been on the organic bandwagon and for sometime Sainsbury's have committed to only selling fair-trade bananas. Perhaps they may also see their way to one day only selling organic bananas if it becomes the demand. Organic produce uses up less resources than standard produce so it should really cost half the price of regular stuff not twice as much.

But before I get convoluted in business politics this post is just to say that if you live in the U.K. this is a quick and easy and quite cheap way of getting hundreds of bananas straight to you door.

The Sainsbury's website is here.

This is their contact number for online shopping issues: 0800 328 1700

If you order under £40 then the delivery cost is £6.95 but if you order over £40 then it can be as little as £2.75 depending on what time of day you order. Late evening tends to be the cheapest.
