My dog was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months ago. Due to moving and other things we were really short on money. My mom thought it would be best to put my dog to sleep and my boyfriend did also.
I ended up selling all of the appliances in the kitchen to pay for surgery. I also told my story on craigslist and got 2 appliances- refrig and stove for free. The dishwasher I paid 20.00 for. My boyfriend was forced to eat salads and fruit for a month.
Abbey has healed and her tests came back normal that it hadnt metasticized to her lungs etc.
I met some great people here and started working for one guy as well whos dog had also died of cancer.
There are so many amazing benefits from doing the right thing.. have a wonderful animal loving day! =)

SuperduperCucumberLover,
I am happy to hear your dog has healed from cancer. I know this post seems to be about 6 months after the fact, so I hope things are still ok.
Crazy things I have done for my pet?
My spouse and I have had to travel a lot for business reasons. This also led us to living quite a distance from my extended family.
Since I was young, I always had a cat, but we had to give up one cat due to spending a season on the move overseas.
I desparately wanted a cat again, and I called my Mom to see if she would be willing to be a grandmother again to a new kiddy and would she babysit when we have to travel. This kind of achieved several goals at one time. I had an open door policy for cat kiddysitting, and an excuse to go visit my Mom, once to drop the kiddy, and once to pick it up. She said yes!
So, off we went to a shelter and adopted the little orange boy you see in my avatar photo.
Since that time 9 years ago a lot has happened. My Mom moved more out West across the Mississippi River, and I had to move to the east coast. My Mom and I live 1,000 miles apart. And yet, everytime an overseas trip is due, it is over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go!
Another benefit of having my Mom kiddysit is we do not have to get vaccines. If we board him professionally, they require up to date vaccines. I am a bit skeptical of vaccines, and so far kiddy has been very healthy without them.

My 13 y/o dog was said to have liver cancer in April od 2010. She was given a few weeks, but is still with me today!! I am cosulting with a homeopathic vet in Florida (I live in Illinois). I also go to a holistic vet an hour from my house. My 4 dogs and 2 cats are all raw fed and I stopped vaccinating them as of 2007.
Life is more prescious than any material object. Your story is lovely and inspiring. I would sell my house and live in a tent to save my babies.
the right thing is the right thing!

I dont know if he feels it as deeply as I do. I had to convince him to get in the car everytime to go to these peoples houses and get the stuff. He felt like it was humiliating and also what if he got there and didnt want what was being offerred to him.. But I am so amazed how well it worked out. Everything worked once we got it home and it is even better than what we had in certain ways. I also feel the love that was passed on from those people to us. It is really incredible.
It has had a profound effect on me - in the way these total strangers reconstucted a reality here. It's like we all can create a new reality if we put our hearts into it. And these other forces will just show up to help us out..
