Hi HCLF Raw Veganers!

I want to re-start my vegan journey. Unexpected familial and academic circumstances that caused stress and emotional eating and a lack of strategy to keep vegan foods in the house (without a car and a stable income source) lead me astray. But now that I have a steady source of income and less stress (even though that should not be an excuse and something I'm learning) I want to return. I am hungry for some ..no no not just some... TONS of FRUIT :)

So, I'm off to the store after writing this for tons of bananas and a baggie of dates. I'm so excited because I know how it made me FEEL the first time and how my skin immediately cleared and was glowing. I know the weight will take longer but i am going to enjoy the journey :)

Here's my vegan story...

I came across some of Freelee's YT videos back in mid-August 2013, and from the moment i stumbled across her 'how to transition to vegan lifestyle' video I was immediately hooked. I felt like I hit the jackpot of health information. It all made sense FINALLY. From that moment onward not only was I hungry for bananas and rice (and boy was I excited that I could eat unlimited portions of both and unlimited portions of all of Earth's food), but I was hungry for the TRUTH about nutrition and fitness. I satiated my cravings by expanding my knowledge base on nutrition and uncovering the methods that this capitalistic society has left people in the dark about and turned them into the idle-minded sheeple they wanted. I am exhilarated to be a part of the health revolution. It's our time to thrive.

It's hard to tell for me how long it really took to notice a difference in my weight from eating differently because just a week prior to me finding out about the HCLF Raw Vegan lifestyle I had finished a summer session at my community college. I had taken 4 P.E. classes all at once because I was desperate for change in my physicality. i was exercising upwards of 4 hours a day 4 days a week for 6 weeks and my body changed in no time. BUT I didn't realize that obviously this method would not work because I could not be consistent. After those classes were done they were done, and it was up to me to continue working out at that level.

I had lost a total 12 pounds within 2 months and we all know that that just does not work long-term. I was feeling great though and looking better than i had in awhile. I started eating HCLF Vegan a couple weeks later so I don't know if I lost more weight because of transitioning to the diet because i wasn't consistent on the scale BUT I do know one thing: I was able to keep it off longer than I would have if I hadn't found the lifestyle.

Even though the weight aspect was blurry because i just subjected myself to intense exercise training and when my schooling started again I wasn't able to be as consistent because of a different factor of excuses. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY. Remember this. I had awesome health lifestyle changes though. I stopped wanting to drink and go out every weekend. I FELT the best that I had in awhile. I wanted to go out and exercise all the time.

By the end of Spring i was eating cheese again and junk food. i haven't eaten meat since August (except for shrimp 3 or 4 times) and junk food was always something that I turned to when I was studying for a calculus exam or what-not. Cookies, chips etc. Something I don't like about school food and school in general haha.

I will be entering my last year at community college next year. It will be my hardest year yet with calculus 2 right around the corner and 2 of my hardest geology classes and 2 chemistry classes (which I'm hoping I will do well in because I did well in high school in chem) coming up. I am going to do my best, and I really want to stick to veganism this time around.

SO STARTING TODAY...I'm gettin 20-30 bananas in my tummy.

I want to start a daily journal and I'll add to it every day. I'm going for 7 days on banana island and I want to use cronometer to see what works the best.

DAY 1~

- 1 and a half liters of water down the guzzle and off to the produce store! :)

So I just finished day 2 of my attempt at a 7 day trip to banana island, and I am feeling a bit stressed. To set the base, I'm coming from a mostly raw diet, eating cooked starches with steamed veggies about 3 nights per week on average. I tend to eat between 3300 calories and 3800 calories daily.

Although I've been more motivated to stay active earlier on in the day since starting banana island, around my second meal (either right before or right after), I am starting to feel very irritable, and losing the desire to want to continue. I think I am experiencing some mild detox systems, including the irritability, very faint waves of headaches, the feeling of "residues" coming through the skin on my face, and feeling very sleepy (wanting to take a nap and/or rest).

I also haven't been feeling satiated after my meals (specifically after dinner) even though I seem to be eating more than I normally do. On day 1, I ate 48 organic bananas, totaling roughly 4000 calories, and today I managed 43 organic bananas, totaling roughly 3800 calories. Because of this lack of satiation, I am also feeling quite anxious, constantly thinking about how I will be able to get down any more bananas at the next meal. A large part of my reasoning for taking this trip to banana island was to help alleviate that anxious feeling I find myself experiencing frequently while living the high carb vegan lifestyle - always planning to make sure I am either full or that I have food on hand for the next "carbing up."

Up until about halfway through my second day, I had only been making banana smoothies or eating them whole. Around lunch today, I felt hungry, but did not want to eat a smoothie nor whole bananas, so I looked up some "banana recipes." I was able to try a few of them, eating 5 smaller meals on day 2, compared to eating 3 larger meals with a pre-bed snack on day 1.

With bananas being my favorite food, I was anticipating banana island to be a fun experience. Since beginning however, I have mostly doubted my ability to make it a full 7 days, as the initial effects have been more hindering than beneficial. I do think that overall, I feel a bit better after finishing day 2 than I did after day 1.

Anyone else feel like this early on or was it more so later on in the trip, towards the end when you knew it was almost over?

Anyone else currently on banana island that can help motivate me to stick with my 7 day plan?

ok so this has likely been asked before but i cant seem to find anything on it, but how long is it safe/ok to go on banana island healthwise? i am in the midst of trying to get my stomach/digestive system to recover and have been on bananas only for 3 months. i was finaly able to eat many fruits solid before that point instead of liquid diet which took a couple of years to get to that point but i accidentally consumed some wheat and that has messed up my ability to eat food since and ripe bananas blended up seems to be the only safe food. i thought halfway through this 3 month period that i could try something else. i tried blending bluebrries into my smoothie as i used to before. instant burning pain in my stomach, so scrathced that and went back to plain nanas. then for some reason i tried small amount of salad one day and had stabbing pains in my gut for 4 days straight and could not eat. after that i went back to the nana smoothies yet again. and before the wheat i HAD got to the point where i could finally eat fruit and salad - it was amazing to actually be able to eat something that was.. food, so i know its the wheat which has caused damage. i dont know how long it will take to completely recover but i was thinking of sticking with banana smoothie for awhile until i sort of feel like i could try a different fruit blended/juiced mono style and see how that goes - and if thats ok then try different fruit blended/juiced and so on etc. until i get back to being able to eat again. i just wanted to know how long banans only is ok for though just in case. i wanna take this slow and no risks to recover as quick as possible because i have learned from a lot of bad experiences in the past and dont want to go though that again :) thanks, rachel.

Right now I'm either having a dump once in the morning and then not again, or having a bunch of little ones throughout the day that don't feel super satisfying and don't come out that quick.

I want my poop to float and be more regular. Is this going to be more of a long term thing that will happen once I've been on banana island for a bit? When I was eating rice and tomatoes I had more floaty deuces that came out immediately.

I had to leave the island today but I intend to go back on tomorrow and stay on for at least a week this time. I would like an explanation as to why my elimination seems to be worse... could it be a detox thing. Very interested and dedicated here. Thanks for listening to my poop story.

I've not strayed from vegan of course but I've definitely had periods of eating higher fat. Nuts really, are my vice.

I feel MISERABLE. I'm always stressing about food and what to eat or oh is that too much fat or thinking non stop about cooked foods.. I do not want this in my life! It's like I'm developing an eating disorder or something.

I need to be on my A game. (personal life upheavals and challenges, plus being a single parent and on welfare trying to find work).

I saw a ton of ripe bananas at the store yesterday and bought them all. I'll use dates as my backup if I don't have ripe bananas.

Of course I had a really senseless cooked binge last night so I feel like crap today.

I've been curious to try banana island for awhile.. so we'll see how long I go. A week maybe? Depends I guess.

I'm reading all around this site and am a *little* confused. Is it JUST bananas and nothing else? Lots of people talk about green smoothies and eating greens with their bananas and such.

So to start off today I'm working my way through my ripe banana stash... It's 9am and I stopped eating around 8pm last night, high fat cooked vegan food - I contemplated water fasting until this evening but don't want to set myself up to binge again tonight because I didn't eat all day. I'm not experienced with fasting.

Anyway... I'll start another thread tonight with how today went and update that one each day or something. Excited to feel better that's for certain!!
