There is an option to begin the Colin Campbell eCornellthree course onlineeducation program for Plant-Based Nutrition tomorrow. If anyone else is taking the courses and would like to exchange ideas or prepare for assignments please respond to this thread. Perhaps we could create a list of members here, who are taking the courses.

I read The China Study but gave the book away as a present. I don't think it is a requirement for taking the courses but perhaps it would help to have it as a reference.

  •     Any idea how much the course costs? Also a link to the registration for the online course would be helpful.

  • Nexterra, I don't get the cooked food (particularly starches) emphasis, except the diet would be more practical for the mainstream. I'm in the Doctor of philosophy in holistic natural health and nutrition at the University of Natural Health, too. The college emphasizes more of Doug Graham's type of diet since it is raw, as you know and it is a long-term project with a degree. Depending on how far you go with the studies at the college you'll cover everything in the eCornell courses and it is flexible since you can go at your own pace and pay gradually. There is plenty of material to cover, though. The e-Cornell courses would potentially fulfill continuing education requirements if those are a concern to maintain a health related certification. The natural health degree is not regionally certified so my employers (and probably yours) are not going to pay extra for completing it but I implement the information in courses I teach and with patients I see, anyway. A standard nutrition degree is meaningless to me and perhaps it would be for you too since the conventional nutrition degrees promote the 4 food groups, cooked food, etc.

  • Is this open source?

    • do you mean as in the courses at mit:

    • There were students with diverse diets ranging from raw vegan to Neanderthal and omniconfused type diets.

  • I'm responding to my own post. I just finished the eCornell Nutrition classes designed by Dr. Campbell and based on updates on the China Study. The China Study seems to have weathered more scrutiny than any other diet.

I look forward to catching up with the group here.

    • Hi Chris,

I have read about this program and it has peaked my interest. I've read the CS twice, even own it on audio book. Does one have to have a degree to take the course or any other prerequisite? Is it very expensive?

    • There are no prerequisites. It is pass or fail. Unfortunately (at least in Florida) I can't yet print 'plant based nutritionist' or 'nutrition certified' on my business card based just on completion of those courses but more are being offered in the near future and they just began to fulfill CE credits for those maintaining certifications. Perhaps it will just be a matter of time as Campbell's program continues to grow.
    • Great Job!! My doctor recommended these classes to me just yesterday (She is a holistic MD who supports a low fat/vegan diet). I told her I was considering the UNH programs (in Hygienic Med. and PhD in Holistic Nutrition). Now, I am torn between the two. Ideally, I would like to take both; but, I feel pulled towards becoming a hygienic doctor.

Has anyone taken both programs? I would love to hear how they compare!!

      -Patty
