Thoughts on Vaccines?

I just found out my midwife will likely want me to get the whooping cough vaccine during my pregnancy. I do not at all like the idea of vaccines and have heard some bad stuff about them. At the same time though, I in no way would ever want to endanger my baby by not protecting her against those kinds of viruses.Could Ya'll let me know what your stance is, your experience with vaccinating or not vaccinating your children, and/or some credible reading on the topic? I am honestly torn and not sure what is truly the best and safest for the little one, especially in her early childhood.

  • Just saw this and want to share a book I have recently read, 70% of the way through and loving every bit of it!

I have read a few books and many articles on the topic and this book is the best out there imo. Fully documented and let's you make your own conclusions.  It is a must read for everyone in this day on age.  My conclusion is that vaccines are pure fraud and harm every person every time they are given.  The 20 years of the AMA and the doctors telling people that smoking was fine after they had absolute proof it was not, is just the tip of the iceberg.

  • Okay, now Lolita's other link from food renegade comes in handy. Read that and see how it is carried out in the first link of your last post....

I don't know who to believe!!!! Haha there's just too much conflicting information it's making my head spin. It seems like there is a decent counter argument for every piece of information on either side =/
  • This is a very personal choice, but one that I encourage you to make only after becoming fully informed.  This mega thread is a good start:

    • Thanks, headed there now!
  • No I'm not, I'll check that out. Thanks!!
  • Lolita's link about herd vaccination lists very many scientific studies done. Here's one I found particularly interesting,

    28. Witt M et al. 2012. Unexpectedly Limited Durability of Immunity Following Acellular Pertussis Vaccination in Pre-Adolescents in a North American Outbreak. Clin Infect Dis. Clin Infect Dis. 2012 Jun;54(12):1730-5. PMID:22423127
  • I am not so convinced by this article because 1) it was pneumonia that was stated as the actual cause of death and 2) the baby's entire family had been vaccinated, including the mother. Shouldn't that have passed along the needed antibodies to protect the baby until it was old enough to get its own shots?
  • In that case, I am genuinely curious... How do you respond to the claims that 80-90% of whooping cough cases have occurred in vaccinated people?
  • Thanks everyone for all the links, videos, articles, and personal opinions! They're all very interesting. I am curious now, how do Ya'll feel about a raw vegan lifestyle in regards to needing vaccines? I know this lifestyle gives us stronger immune systems, but do you think it can even be effective against the deadliest viruses out there?
    • I think a healthy diet and low stress lifestyle supports the immune system, but I don't think it will protect against all infections.
