Sorry I know there have been a bunch of forum posts about how much Americans pay for bulk banana orders, but how much are you guys paying for up here in the Great North? I just put in my first order for a case (40lb) of organic fair trade bananas and got them for $38 which I thought was pretty decent... but then again, I have no idea. What kind of price should I actually be looking for? Thanks!

I hit up the local Longos for a couple cases of organic bananas a week. The price usually ranges between $30 and $35. Just ask for the produce manager and explain you eat mainly fruit. After getting through the typical questions: (1. Where do you get your protein?, 2. Wont you get constipated?, 3. Can't you get potassium poisoning from eating too many bananas?) they should be happy to help.
The one time I sent to loblows they charged me straight up for the box.
Got any natural food stores around your area? I just asked all the ones that are close by and they could all do it, though I'm still in the market for the best price :) you usually have to speak to their produce manager.
Also, I don't know if a bigger retailer like Loblaws would be willing to help out but they do carry organic nanas and maybe there is someone you could speak to there...
I only have an Extra Foods in my town. I just bought a case of non-organic bananas (in the discount bin, which were perfectly ripe), for 3.50. Hello!! I walked out of the store with a BIG grin on my face!! A lot of the time they will have bananas in the 50% off bin, usually they are in little bags, and they get placed in there because they have brown spots on them, which is the only way to eat them, but I guess most people like to eat their bananas green. I usually buy them all. I will peel them and vacuum seal them in bags. They keep for months without going brown or slimy. I use them in smoothies and champion juicer “ice cream”. Saves me a small fortune because I ALWAYS have ¼ of my deepfreeze filled with packages of bananas.
Do you guys tend to ask big box stores or smaller places? Now I'm wondering why the ones I'm getting in bulk are so expensive... I guess they're both organic & fair trade?...
I pay anywhere from $5 ( in the summer) to $35 for 40 pounds in the winter. Organic.
I usually buy conventional ( 40 pounds is $20 for a regular box & $10 for the super ripe ones or the discounted ones that aren't attached to bunches. I got 57 pounds of nanners the other day for $14)
all summer mainly i buy organic from pro organics for around $5-10 for 40 pounds cause they're ripe.
Wow! Who do you have to talk to to get those kinds of prices? I've been able to get some pretty cheap ones when they're considered "over ripe" (which to us actually just means ripe) but I can rarely find those.
