Face wash/make-up remover?

Hi!

I know not everyone wears make-up. I only wear it occasionally.

But this question is both

 a) what do you recommend as a face wash (brand or recipe) - for dirt/sweat at end of day?

 b) what about make-up remover?

I'm trying to learn more about vegan skincare and any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

  • For facewash, I mix tea leaves and brown rice flour together.  I steep tea for a couple minutes and then open the bag and pour the leaves out into a bowl where I then add an equivalent amount of brown rice flour.  It's half tea leaves and half brown rice flour. :) Then I mix it together, splash my face with warm water, and massage the mixture onto my face.  I only use a dime size amount.  Then I either rinse my face with cold water immediately or let the mixture dry onto my face and then rinse it off.  I used to put honey into the mixture, but that's not Vegan D: The mixture usually lasts me about 5 days as fashwash for morning and night.  As for make-up remover, oils like coconut or almond oil work best for me :) Just use a little bit and be careful not to get into your eyes and rinse it off with water.

  • I use olive oil as makeup remover. i massage it into my face, leave it for about 30 seconds and then wipe it away with cotton wool.

I then wash with a 'soap&co' soap which onlyhas three ingredients: dead sea salt, dead sea mud and glycerin. However, I am considering ditching the soap and just using the oil...

    • Thanks so much!!

  • It's so interesting and helpful reading your suggestions.  Thank you to all of you!!!

  • My favorite make up remover is olive oil. Put it on a cotton ball and even mineral make up will come right off! A good basic soap like Dr. Bronners is a very mild soap for body and face, choose one with essential oils like lavender, tea tree or lemongrass. The almond is a fragrance and its best not to use it on the face. It's as pure as anything I would make. If you are far along in being raw this should be enough. If you are still detoxing and really need to neutralize odors after a workout I do carry a bamboo charcoal soap that really helps.
  • Thanks so much for these helpful responses everyone!!   :-)

  • I use coconut oil on my face and eyes to remove my makeup and wipe it off with a cotton ball. I follow that up by washing my face with Johnson and Johnson's Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash, it's also good at removing dirt and sweat. For my nightly routine however, because I don't wear makeup regularly, I use Shiseido products. You might want to try the Desert Essence brand which is vegan, I have used their Tea Tree Oil face wash and daily moisturizer and like it.
