Hi all,

I know there's a number of discussions on this subject but I did not find the answer to my question on them.

The thing is after all the curiosity with five fingers I made up my mind to give them a try. I have been visiting a few stores in Manhattan and tried quite a few pairs. My first disappointment was I looked into the store locator of the official five fingers website and many of them did not have them; especially I could not find Vibram in any running store (I wonder why is this...). So finally I saw myself walking into random shoe stores and asking.

I'd like to give them a try for running (I know, I should transition very very slowly) and tried the models the brand recommends for women runners. My concern is that even though they fit comfortable, they don't fit like a glove at all. I understand we all have probably completely different shapes to our feet and that it's almost impossible that most of our pairs of feet match the one pair of feet Vibram that would perfectly fit in the shoe design. For instance, not that I have a very long big toe, but I still found that most of the pairs were made for feet with shorter big toes. I went up one size so my big toe was more at ease, but then the shoe was kind of too loose...

To sum up: if these shoes do not fit my feet like a pair of gloves, they might miss their purpose since I may not be able to move my toes freely.

Did any of you have this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much

I just ran 2.2 miles today and already feel like my knees have no padding. What do you all do about that? Is that normal or am I missing something? I haven't done a lot of running in my life so surely I haven't worn them out. I ran the mile in track in high school and have trained for 2 half-marathons (very light training this year). How can I work up to 26.2 miles without destroying my knees???

My time yesterday was 5 hours and 5 mins!!!!

I know that may still seem slow to may of you but for me, at 54 years old, it was very exciting.

I am running the London Marathon next year so my challenge is to get under the 5 hour mark.

I screwed up a bit as I went too fast in the first half. Where I train at home is very hilly so when I started off in the race on the flat it didn't feel at all as much effort as it did in training and I couldn't believe I was running at a faster pace. Of course, I paid for it in the second half as that was much harder going than it had been in training. My last long training run was 24 miles and I finished it feeling quite strong and my legs were fine but yesterday was much more difficult and my knees were really sore at the end. Still, thanks to eating raw my recovery is so much quicker, my knees are already feeling almost normal!

Still thrilled and am now off to get my medal engraved :)

love to you all and many thanks for all the advice/tips that I gleaned from you on these pages

Helen x

do we have any elite athlete among us? :)
if you have experience in this field, feel free to comment

i have trail running national championships in 1 month and top 4 runners qualify at trail running world championships too
since november 2011 i did a lot of volume, i started easier and i tried to get used with a specific training plan
in the summer i got to the point where i adapted to the program and did @110 /week at least

monday: 14km

thuesday: 12km

thursday: 5k tempo // or @ 10km volume of intervals // or fartlek

wenesday: 20km

friday: 16km

saturday: 12km easy

sunday: 20-30km depends on wich the week of the month is

how should i change this program, for trail running, to get the most out of it?

by the way the up competition is only uphill, 8km i believe... i don't set very high hopes because i just recovered from 2 weeks break after a injury, but trail running at this level is very unpredictable... everything can happen

Now we don't do fermented foods here, so I assume also not the juice around them. But does anybody know how this actually works and if there is an easy 811rv alternative. I sometimes have muscle cramps when I am doing some extensive trainings.
