Yesterday I ate 14 bananas and 10 dates. I usually limit myself to 5-6 bananas on average and 3-5dates on average because I like variety of fruit. I dont usually get acne, and I've never had a huge problem with it, a breakout here and there when Im on PMS ever since I started the HCRV lifestyle.

I found that I break out the next day everytime I overeat on bananas and dates? I think its the dates that are causing it more because its more concentrated. I've NEVER had a problem with my face when I over eat on other fruits. Ive eaten pounds and pounds of strawberries, nectarines, apricots and grapes on some days and I DONT wake up the next day with a breakout. I also find that if I INCLUDE more romaine lettuce with eating fruit and increasing spinach in my dinner salads help speed the HEALING process of my breakouts.

Has anyone ever experienced acne on too much sugar? or a certain fruit?

Esther

I mush up the avocado so it creates a coat on the leafy greens and makes the dressing (lemon/salt/pepper) soo yummy. I just got a cronometer account and put in an avocado to see how much fat is in it, and it went off the charts. I am so sad because I don't want to give up my 1/2 avocado in my salad. And my salad definitely would be more of a chore to eat without it. But trying to follow the 80-10-10 principle with my cronometer seems like I am already getting a bit of fat from the fruits I eat and having avocado sends it off the charts...

Thoughts or guidance?:(

Thank you,

-Newbie

I have M.E. and I don’t want to do something that is going to make me worse. And I know that cooked food really affects my M.E. symptoms. My fear is that this is where the too much sugar in fruit quotes come from. Am I making things worse?

Any advice welcomed.

Zoe

When I eat a lot of fruits AND A LOT OF greens eventually a moment comes when I feel completely oversugared and also kind of hungry and I feel I have to have a non-sweet substantial salad with dulse flakes (for salt) and avocado. When I eat that I usually feel better. Before I eat that I feel totally oversugared and out of control. For months I was able to avoid eating salt by consuming A LOT of chard (salty chard). But for some reason chard is not always salty, it actually varies with seasons. Right now it's very hard to find any salty chard, so I am not getting my organic sodium, and even though I am eating tons of greens after my fruit meals, I still crave salty salads. Celery doesn't work the same way. I recognize that it is a matter of transition and overcoming addiction to salt. But when I get my worst cravings I feel like in a car on highway driving at about 70 m/h and I just need to maneuver the best I can. And my best in the absence of salty chard comes to large green salad with avocado and some dulse flakes. On the next day though I have a bad case of water retention on my face.

So, my question is what to do when I feel this - driving on highway / have to eat to get in balance/ oversugared, sweet fruit will make it worse - feeling ?

Nutrient deficienciesAll the cells in our body use sugar as the primary and preferred fuel source to carry out cellular respiration, generating cellular energy, which our cells require in order to function. Getting fuel to our cells is our body's number one priority in terms of nutrition. Our body is remarkably resourceful, in that lacking its preferred form of cellular fuel, glucose and fructose from sweet fruits, it will convert other forms of macronutrients, namely complex carbs, proteins and fats, into sugar in order to keep our cells fueled. If we eat enough fruit to meet our caloric needs, we will get enough protein and fat in our diet as well, because fruit has enough of both of these nutrients to meet our body's needs in the best 'pre-digested' forms: amino acids and fatty acids. However if we under eat sweet fruit in order to fulfill our body's simple carbohydrate needs, our body will be forced to convert dietary fats and proteins into sugar that would otherwise be used to build our neurotransmitters, hormones, cell membranes, cell components, bodily tissue, etc. Remember that vitamins are proteins too! Needless to say in the short term of under eating we're not going to be feeling good nor are we going to be functioning optimally due to nutrient deficiencies, and in the long term this can never be a good thing either.Cooked food cravingsNow I'm sure NO ONE here has EVER experienced this, hmm? When we're lacking enough sugar from fruit in our diet we are going to crave complex carbs, e.g. bread, pasta, pizza, pastry, etc. These are the sorts of things we used to rely on to fulfill our carbohydrate requirements. That was then, sweet fruit is now. Do the right thing for your body folks :)Lack of energy to exerciseIt is true that food does not give us energy, but if we do not eat enough calories from sweet fruit, we will not have energy.Huh?Our 'energy' comes from our central nervous system in the form of electrical impulses from our nerve cells. We 'recharge our battery' so to speak when we are asleep or at rest. However even our nerve cells must carry out cellular respiration in order to produce nerve energy, just like a hydro electric damn needs water flow to generate electricity. Nerve cells are transducers, they convert one form of energy (cellular ATP) into another (low voltage electrical current). So we need fuel to power our nervous system, aka our body's electrical power and communications grid. Lacking sufficient fuel, we will not be able to exert our muscles (muscle cells run on glucose too) for long enough to exercise sufficiently to grow and maintain our fitness levels.AutointoxificationAka 'perpetual detox syndrome', read this wonderfully insightful and articulate post by 30bads resident nutrition expert Adam:Yup, I've said it time and time again. "Detox" symptoms are danger symptoms. They tend to occur when people dramatically underconsume on calories, and would indicate that someone is possibly experiencing auto-intoxication, rather than detoxification. Auto-intoxication occurs when our body is forced to deal with more toxins than the liver can handle at any given time. When we underconsume on calories we typically break down muscle tissue and small amounts of fat tissue for calories. And we use some of the fat and protein from our diet to make glucose instead of for their amino/fatty acids. This then means we have less amino acids for liver detoxification, and more toxins being created in the process of breaking down dietary and muscle protein, and breaking down fat tissue, thereby releasing stored toxins. This process will be accelerated if someone is undereating on calories and exercising. The body is then more likely to break down more fat tissue, rather than muscle tissue, for fuel. This causes us to release stored toxins at an even greater rate. When the body is given the right conditions, it will always choose to deal with toxins at a rate it can handle most efficiently. Remember that when the body stores toxins in adipose tissue, it is for a good reason: It is because it was deemed to be too toxic for the body to handle safely the first time round.Needless to say this is bad news, and should be avoided at all costs. I should know, I went through this for months, lol. Please don't make yourselves suffer folks, eat those mangos! :)Starvation modeIn short, long term under eating forces our body to slow down its metabolism to decrease its need for nutrients. This is not actual full-blown starvation, but rather an emergency procedure to PREVENT starvation from occurring (although muscle tissue is cannibalized to keep the body fueled which is bad news!). It also results in diminished appetite. So much for waiting for 'true hunger'.Some may claim that eating less is a virtue, that this is the hallmark of the 'advanced' raw foodie. This sounds like an eating disorder to me, don't listen to 'em folks. The more calories we burn the more we need to eat. There is simply no way around this, our cells are constantly burning sugar as fuel. The fuel is always coming from somewhere, and if its not from simple carbohydrates in fruit, its from dietary fats or proteins, or the fats and proteins of our body's tissues, or it's from last night's binge on vegan pizza and soy chocolate icecream... :) Furthermore there are no studies showing that eating fewer fruits and vegatables on a 100% lfrv has any benefits in terms of health or longevity.Read more about in Julie's excellent post Starvation Mode: Eat Enough Calories!!!Other symptoms include:irritability, racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, insomnia, disordered eating, constantly thinking about food..
