Hi Arizonians!
I'm going to be traveling to Phoenix in mid-October and I'm looking for some advice on what is in season. I like to keep it all raw. What seasonal fruits, veg, and greens should I look for in grocery stores at this time of year? (It will be interesting to see the difference in selection from what we get here in Chicago in the fall!)
Also, do you have any recommendations for grocery stores in the downtown area? I'm going for a conference and it would be great to have a go-to place with good selection and/or prices.
Thanks for reading, and happy fall, everyone!

Welcome to the Valley, PL!
Been a while since I was up there, but I have a few ideas:
I'm not aware of any "locally-oriented" grocers, as one tends to be much like another. For that just-picked flavor, you'd be better off patronizing one of the many fine farmers markets. Found this recent article on some notable ones in town:

The Roadrunners one was my favorite, though I don't know if you'll be mobile.
The Capitol one you see on West Adams should be closer to your area if necessary.
My absolute favorite grower was/is a lady named Stella of Horny Toad Farms. If she's still in operation, here's a couple of potential contacts:

Finally, here's a store that sells some amazing local dates, look for the squishiest ones:

Hope this helps, and let us know how you enjoy your trip! :)
Hi Windlord,
Thanks so much for the info. One of the markets is just blocks away from where I'm staying! I'm also excited to try some local dates - a real treat! I really appreciate your tips.
Cheers,
Paula
