  • Can you reask it differently, by any chance?

You asked about how hot it gets, but would you mind asking if they *steam* them, directly? I assume what they are saying is they sun dry them...but I'm not so sure. What does "ripen" them mean? I mean, obviously they'd ripen in the sun...;P

  • I just ordered these organic dayri dates, with shipping it comes to $3.72/lb.  Never tried this variety before.  We'll see!

I do not know whether or not they are steamed.  Please let us know once they send their reply.

  • September-October in Arizona/California
  • Excellent--thank you so much!
  • Recently I have been ordering organic Zahidi dates from medjooldates.com.

You can get an 11 lb box for only $29 plus shipping and they are sweet and moist. I'm actually eating them right now, and I'd have to say that these are probably my favorite of all the dates I've tried so far.

I had previously ordered the 4-variety sampler, but the medjool dates were a bit dry and did not compare to the ones grown at Bautista farms.  The other dates (dayri and halawi) in the sampler were OK but I'm just not a big fan of those varieties.

  • LIndsay Culclassure has recommended Shield's in the past.  Not sure of their current stock
    • Bautista dates will be back at the end of August.  Until then I have ordered three 15# cases of Khadrawy from Shields and am very happy with them.  With shipping it's about $3.40 a pound for me while on special.  They aren't certified organic but do grow them chemical free as you can see when you read their story on their website.

      • Oh yeah and I've tested them, they are raw.  Put a piece in Hydrogen Peroxide and if it bubbles, it's raw.
