Hi EveryoneFree's post about pool water chemicals has just inspired me to ask you all about something I'm struggling with:Does anyone else not have their own house or car? I've been doing ok with getting enough fruit home/ to work but it often involves dragging reeaallly heavy bags around, so I haven't made any headway with getting better quality water. I know London tap water is really bad; does anyone know if those little jug water filters (like Brita) do much to improve the quality of the water? Because that would definietly be easiest. My other idea so far is buying 1litre glass bottles of water, drinking them and then refilling them at the health food shop that's near my work, but that means carrying a couple of big glass water bottles around in addition to my fruit, or spending my lunchtime getting water when I'd rather be getting a dose of sunshine walking in the park. I don't want to make a habit of buying water in plastic bottles.Any good advice/ ideas?ThanksHelena

Unfortunately it's a really long way from where I live to the outskirts of London and I think that hours of cycling along busy roads would be worse for my health than tap water!
I've just found a new type of filter cartridge for my jug filter that claims to reduce chlorine & heavy metals, although it doesn't say by how much. I doubt it's particularly great but I think I just need to go with what's manageable for me now. I don't want to stress about transporting water to the point where it detracts from my ability to maintain my fruit supply!
Hi Helena :-) I think you will be fine with a water filter....do the best you can with whats available to you. Ofcourse the cheapy ones aren't ideal but I use them sometimes and find the water tastes a heck of a lot different.

Excellent, thanks Free. I think it's really important to do the best you can at any given time and then to feel good, or at least ok, about it - so I'm not gonna add worry to my water :-P
Are there any springs,on the outskirts of London? One of my friends, living in England (in the Midlands) visits a local spring, he doesn't have a car, but loads his bike up with bottles, then fills them at the local spring. It is a big trip for him, but gives him enough drinking water for several months.
I hope you find some great water.
