Summer is officially over....

so now that my lazy summer is over, okay not lazy but you'll understand, I am going to be working out early in the mornings, before class, then I will have a softball practice to attend to afterward. If I have the choice I don't want to mess with protein powders because I know you can obtain just as much protein naturally and it is so much better for the body. I need to know the best protein packed post-workout shake that I can enjoy as a second breakfast kind of deal. Also if there are any vegan pre-workouts, to get a good pump in, or do I not want to mess with that either?

  • Lots of greens and of course beans are a great source.
I prefer broccoli with my rice or potatoes for dinner.
Also quinoa is a good protein source and delicious mixed in with beans and tomatoes :)
  • As long as you're eating a minimum of 2500 cals for a lady/ 10 carb grams per kilo of bodyweight consisting of

enough whole plant foods, emphasizing fresh fruits n tender greens, you'll have all the protein you need.  Powders are unnecessary.  And for a pre-workout, obviously you don't want too much sloshing around in your tum if you're going intense, but watermelon can impart that pump effect, in a healthy and tasty way.

Where Do I Get My Protein?

How much protein do we really need?

Where do I get my protein on a HCRV diet?

    • only one problem with that, I don't like watermelon.. :o

      • Sacrilege! ;)

just read that beets contain something similar too.  But again, pump or no pump isn't something I'd worry about.  Let your body pump itself as it desires without outside stimulation.

Improvement in fitness comes from dedicated hard and progressively more challenging work followed by plentiful healthy eating and resting to rebuild.  Almost too simple a formula sometimes, but it's the only one that works well in the longterm.

  • Oats have a good bit. Banana smoothie with brocoli. brocoli has more protien/cal than steak. I would say fruit smoothie with high protien greens is ur best bet...careful tho its so easy to get waaayyy too much protien I find. Oh yea tomatos r good to i think...yeah, &^%$ protien powders man gimmick 100% vegan or not

    • I know the broccoli will if u don't steam em first. Beans...haven't tried but in Chinese restaurants desert is usually a kind of bean ice cream, literally just sugar herbs m beans, so I imagine beans in a smoothie won't b to bad at all.
      • Bean ice cream say what?! Adding that to the list

    • have you ever tried beans in a banana smoothie? will the bean taste be very potent? what about the broccoli?

  • Banana smoothie :D
