Lately I have been thinking about why the dietary guidelines for the USA are signed off on by the department of agriculture. Why do the food-sellers write the guidelines for nutrition? I did some digging. Here are a few basic points:
- The first signature on the document is Tomas Vilsack- a former governor, a GMO proponent, lots of handshaking with GMO biotechnology corporations.
- Then there are the board members who actually write the guidelines:
- Xavier Pi Sunyer- consultant for drug companies. Research funded by Campbell soup.
- Eric Rimm- research funded by Kellogg, Pfizer, Merck.
- Joanne Slavin- research funded by Kellogg, American beef council, American Egg Board.
The list goes on and on, those are just 3 of the dozen or so corporate agenda-pushing scientists that write the dietary guidelines. Some board members even hold stock in food corporations.
No wonder there are such incredible health problems in the world- the documents that tell us how to eat are just advertisements for junk food companies.
How can we change this?! I am starting out by just being aware.
