I went no poo, just stand under the shower and massage the scalp. I did use baking soda and lemon juice at first, but gave up after a week because it's just a hassle to prepare the things I needed. I first tried this in week 2 of my LFRV. It's been a month now and still greasy, but some days they are just fine.
I don't smell though, and that's a plus point. Just considering whether I should just shave it off, but it really irks me because I just grew my hair long from short concave bob after a year. I guess my bf won't like the idea either. So I'll just hang on until the detox phase is over, considering I wash+using mega amounts of conditioner 2-3 times a day for the past 17 years! So I kind of expected the detox period to be longer than "desired"...
I started experimenting with no shampoo quite a few years ago because it's recommended for people with curly hair. I tried using just conditioner to wash (using cheap conditioner like Suave or V05 (about $1/bottle) because you go through a lot if you're putting enough in to scrub). I've also tried doing water only but that didn't work well (but I wasn't eating raw either at that point, so who knows, I may try it again in the future).
I found some natural shampoo and conditioner that were giving me better results than the conditioner washing, so I gave that a go for a few months, but my hair was still being too dry (dryness is more of an issue for people with curly hair than for straight hair), so I recently started conditioner only again, but this time with a natural conditioner that contains unrefined shea butter. I'm having better results so far and the curls are looking good. I usually only wash (with conditioner) my hair every other day, although it tends to look oily on day 2. If it's looking just a bit too oily when I wake up and I have to be at work, sometimes on day 2 I'll just rinse well with water and I get good results from that, but I only go 2 days between conditioner washes during the week when I have to be at work. On the weekends I tend to let it go longer.
I am totally supportive of going completely without products, but I'm not quite ready to make the jump myself until my hair can look nice with a minimal transition period. I plan to keep conditioner-washing and then gradually reduce the number of times per week I wash and start using water-only. Since I've tried this a few times, from what I've read, and my own experience, using conditioner-only to wash your hair is a good intermediate step to going without product at all because it doesn't strip the natural oils out of your hair the way shampoo does (and bronner's, even diluted, dries my hair out right away too.) Once your scalp oil production adjusts to no shampoo (ie, stops pumping out the grease that it thinks it needs because the shampoo just stripped them all away), it's easier to go from there to nothing other than water or lemon rinses.
If you have problem with thinning hair, this could be due to decreased blood flow to your scalp if you no longer massage it like you used to when you shampooed. I've heard (from multiple sources) that massaging the scalp really can help with hair thickness and for some people the massage they get from shampooing makes all the difference, so you might want to give some extra attention to rubbing your scalp even if you stop using any products.
I've been no-poo around 3 months. I never experienced any greasy phase. My hair looks and feels the same as it always has, but much healthier.
Dry scalp? Nope Oily scalp? Nope How often do you wash it? Rinse with warm water daily for around 1 minute & massage scalp What kind of water do you use? glacier runoff from an aquifer. Do you oil it? Nope Hot water or cold? hot What kind of brush or comb do you use? No brushing or combing, just run my hands through it!
Like what Ann mentioned, it feels as if I have product in my hair. It is curly, bouncy, shiny, and soft, but feels quite a bit more durable now, if that makes sense. There's no smell, dandruff or any other common problems assoiciated with using shampoo or product. I let it dry naturally.
I'm also free of toothpaste, face wash, moisturizers, and deoderant.
Moooost definitely! Most definitely :D I agree entirely. The Universe amazes me every day. It really does, even on my most blah or cynical days. I really get the best results & ... bliss? ... when I like, submit to it, acknowledge it, tell it things like, "Hey, I don't quite understand Who/What you are yet & probably never fully will, but thanks for looking out & being the big picture that pulls all the threads together for us humans. Thanks for being loving & mysterious, "God" or whatever you are."

Back-on-topic: I'm on day 15 of the "no-poo" method. My hair looks thicker, isn't dry & brittle anymore, saving me shower time & shampoo $. Slightly lower carbon footprint, slightly more minimalistic.
