Where: For me, Hawaii. Which island specifically I am not 100% certain of yet.

Why: I've been there twice before and both times it feels so safe, clean, 'carefree', and so abundant. I feel it is full of potential! It feels like summer year round and pretty much every fruit will grow ...

Downsides: Limited access, american state (I am canadian)

  • Darwin does have some grt weather, need to find good soil though. Hawaii is grt for me half way between Australia and US but on some fundamental level, atherton tablelands has the greatest potential for a major fruitarian community, south east Asia is ok but the average Caucasian would new a visa or citizenship and har to deal with northern hemisphere probs, basically u want south Asian/American/African fruit, asian/Indian/kiwi farming techniques, Australian air, US nutrition ect, again I'm open to US/Brazil/Thailand/Ect, but even though we have the worst non organic fruit & the most expensive (rather good) organic fruit, Australia has the greatest potential, especially near the daintree rainforest..
  • Where--> Belize by far is the best place, specifically the Cayo District

Why--> Cheap, fertile land (much of it already having coconut, banana, mango etc planted); perfect subtropical climate, without the constant threat of hurricane (coastal towns actually evacuate to Cayo on the rare occasion that one does make the unusual route toward BZ); it is a relatively easy process to become a resident (they welcome expats) after living there for a year, and after 5 years to become a citizen; the country is not overpopulated (300,000 ppl in a 9000 sq. mi. country); great access/proximity to other countries (for travelling/backpacking, having family/friends visit, or returning home to visit friends/family); opportunity for extremely important biodiversity conservation/restoration (by a large group of ecologically aware folks buying up land, it can be saved and protected versus development firms deforesting to build hotels and gated communities with quarter acre lots for retirees and millionaires...); the flora/fauna there are ridiculously incredible; I could go on and on...

    • Hey FarmerChlo,

How much is land/acre in Belize?

    • Hey Rawbert!

The range I've found differs in each district, to my surprise the most expensive places are tiny lots in the cities and the cheapest being the acreage in the less over developed districts. Best deal I've seen so far in my search is 50 acres in Cayo for $35,000US ($700/acre!!) -->

We've been looking for the right place to move (my mom's selling our home in Nor. California) for a few months now, just finally settled on Belize so I'm still working on finding some good resources for looking at available property, I'll be sure to post more when I've found some.

    • I hear that homosexuality is outright illegal there. That's not the kind of place I'd like to live.
  • I think it should be where the climate would allow for the most versatile fruits and veggies, Hawaii would be great

  • God know's I'd love to tear down the ol house and put up a yurt! still have a mortgage though... any suggestions?

    • rent out your house, use the $ to pay the mortgage(or most of it), then get 2nd on your house to buy some land and a yurt. If your lucky your house will go up in value in a few years then you can sell it, pay off your 2nd and live in your yurt happily ever after. :)

  • I have only a few places in the U.S. I'd like to live FL, NM, AZ, SoCal...

I'm also interested in Central America, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Chile.

Mostly the laws, nature, climate and ability to get out or protect ourselves in the case of an emergency have led me to these places.  I favor some more than others...but I'm open to any of the above.

  • Forgive me for being a little ignorant of the subject but what actually is a fruitarian earthship community? I have wanted to move for quite a while now in a community that has like minded fruity's like myself. What are the particulars and how does one go about maintaining income?
