Michaels BodyFat discussion.

http://www.30bananasaday.com/forum/topics/female-body-fat

I am interested to hear your opinions on this discussion because I feel it could be sending out the wrong message.  Michael is proclaiming (near ranting) that 3-5% bf is optimal for ladies. Now maybe he is right however no objective evidence has been provided. Throughout the discussion for me he has proven that he cannot read bodyfat levels accurately hence he is basing his recommendations on inconclusive 'eyeballing.'  Which I think could be dangerous for people visiting the site who are recovering from an eating disorder etc and don't need to be focusing on unrealistic ideals. Would love to hear your opinions and also it would be great if you could keep an eye on the discussion, we are off to a running race :)

He also referred to a picture of a female in what I thought was a derogatory way saying "she's obviously got plastic bags on her chest that are 100% fake..". Ok that's fine but I find that talk to be unecessary and very disrespectful.

Comments like this are appearing....
"hmm, I am at about 23%. I hope that I am not gross."

Here is a comment I contributed....

  • while michael's arguments are well-intentioned and some are well-presented - eg there isn't a performance difference between male and female in many other species, he is not correct in projecting this particular image upon females as an indication of health. i alluded to the dangers of doing so to gosia here:

i'm actually a bit surprised at the level of 'enthusiasm' being displayed by him because the suggestion is that developing a female body of this sort is what is correct and all others are incorrect. michael is an athlete with a certain build - other athletes have different builds depending upon the sport. nor is being an athlete necessarily an indication of level of health which is something michael has considered in the past where he acknowledges that his long runs may be a very unhealthful thing to do over time.

in any case, without specific evidence that single-digit fat levels really are what is optimal for women, the idea is certainly not something that should be turned into a 'law' on 30bad. it will be noticed not only by people here as you mention, but also by people beyond and not particularly favorably.
