  • i learned from yogatoday on youtube.  Look for their oldest uploads first as they're the longest.

  • I use yogaglo.com its only $18 a month unlimited classes many teachers all skill levels and classes range from 5 minutes to 2 hours so you can do what suits you. also have you reached out to the members? I see your from NSW im sure there are members in your area who are yogis? most yogis love sharing their yoga practice and knowledge with those who want it :) I practice at home because I cant afford to go to a studio regularly. my online subscription is cheaper than 1 class at my local studio and I can take 2 classes then do a tutorial to work on my arm balances and the videos are very clear and easy to follow along to. hope this helps and doesn't double up others info! x

  • Tara stiles does have some wonderful youtube videos. Also, learning the basic sun salutations is a great way to get in shape and focus the mind. Sometimes I just put some music on and do them on my own. I do 5 rounds and hold a pose for a bit. Takes under 10 minutes.
  • Yogatoday on youtube is how I began.

Their earlier uploads tend to be longer and more geared to beginners than their more recent ones.

  • Mmm everyone keeps saying: have fun with it! Which is awesome, when I think of yoga I dont think of fun. haha a year ago I did it in a class and my mind was screaming the whole time 'stop doing this!' Weird as. Something tells me my mind doesn't like yoga because it might start taming it. lol

  • Thanks to everyone for their responses!

Now I have heaps of info to go by.

    Thanks again x

    • The definition of Yoga is unity.  Unity of the mind body and spirit.    We need unity to be whole beings.  We cannot neglect one part of ourselves.  Jaya guru devi!

  • Consider that different styles of yoga emphasize different aspects of yoga.  Three prominent styles can give you a broad perspective.  Vini, Iyengar and Ashtanga Vinyasa.  Check out Gary Kraftsow, BKS Iyengar (light on yoga is a classic), and Pattabhi Jois for ashtanga.  Beware that your yoga doesn't deepen your identification with your body.

    • Thanks for the reply, what do you mean by yoga doesn't deepen my identification with my body - as in it won't serve as a meditative practice?

I'm looking to do it for two reason: better posture and a way to silence my mind, like a form of mediation..

      Cheers
