Thank you so much for all the info! Thats funny we used to have the chainstore Woolworths here, but they went bankrupt. It was an everything shop - penny sweets to clothes to films, but not fruit!
I'm coming from the UK, to visit a friend there, at the end of this month or start of November. Will be booking soon. I've never been to South Africa before, I'm looking forward to it. It's so cold and rainy here now, cant wait to get into the sunshine! It would be good of you to help me! How do you get the big quantities of fruits? Do you drive? and Is 100% your goal? theres a fun challenge each month set up by Freelee to go 100% for one month, maybe its worth a try.... fruit just feels so fantastic! Holi :)

I get what you're saying about religion, and I respect that. I'm an engineer like you and I also prefer things that are logical. As I said, 7th Day Adventism, as I know it, is unlike any other. So, if you ever change your mind and you need some logical answers for spiritual truth just keep the name of this book in your mind: "The Great Controversy" by Ellen White. It is a history book, basically. In there is detailed the unbiased history of the Christian church from the time of Christ to where we are now. It makes perfect sense. Janus and Julie might have a copy for you.
Anyway, as I said, when I get back to JHB, I'll definitely look you up.
The Humanure manual is awesome. It really gave me a different look at soil and waste treatment. In the book the author also mentions some alternative grey-water systems whereby one can recycle the water used for bathing, dish-washing and clothes-washing for irrigating vegetation.
Yes I am Seventh-day Adventist. If it were not for my religion I would probably have fallen into the High fat lifestyle:-) There are some great truths that I have found in this religion, it is unlike any other. It fits in very well with the lifestyle - even the country-living aspect. If you like I can share some material with you that you might enjoy.

Have I found it easier to build muscle? Not particularly. But it's not because of the diet. It's because, just like you, for a long time I've been struggling to get enough calories. The menu that I told you about the other day, well, it lasted for about 2 weeks. But last week Sunday I ran out of ripe bananas. The unripe bananas gave me serious heartburn. Throughout my journey as 100% I've never been able to maintain a stable supply of bananas for more than 1-2 weeks. Then I starve or I eat fats. I still am unable to get enough calories in a day from other fruits.
For a while I've been thinking about including some cooked starches into my diet mainly to ensure that I don't starve myself, that I get enough carbs in a day. Also, to get rid of the label "100% Raw Vegan." I once turned down a mission trip to Swaziland to build churches because I thought "Where am I going to get enough fruit."
So yesterday, having no ripe bananas (Grootvlei is so cold, fruit just doesn't seem to get ripe), I made myself some rice - about 720 calories worth. I'm no longer 100% raw vegan, but I think I've made a good decision for my long term health and for life in general. I'm still going to maintain 811. I'm still going to eat as much fruit as I care for - perhaps on some days I'll be 100%, so long as there is a good supply of fruit.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
I've started weight lifting, I'm in the third week now, and it has increased the amount of food I eat in a day. I'm now on 3200 on non-training days and 3500-4000 on training days. I eat 5 meals a day on training days (800 cal per meal) and 4 meals on non-training days. Before I started training I was eating around 2500.
Breakfast at 7: 8 bananas (blended, sometimes with greens)
Brunch at 10: 8 bananas (not blended cause I don't have a blender at work)
Lunch at 1: 16 oranges (cut in quarters and juiced in my mouth) +some lettuce and cherry tomatoes sometimes
Supper at 4: 8 bananas (at work, not blended)
Training 6.30-7.30.
Post-workout at 7.40: 4-8 bananas (blended, sometimes with greens)
Be very grateful for the fruit that you have available at such good price. That's really awesome!
Organic bananas from Woolworths come from Umbhaba Estates. I know this because I saw an Umbhaba Estates sticker on one of the bananas I bought in a 1.2 kg organic bananas box from Woolworths. So you might be able to get it cheaper from the market.
Dates, I don't know where organic dates come from, but you can get 5kg box of jumbo medjools (not certified organic) for R260 from the Karsten Farms agent in Fordsburg, (close to the Oriental plaza).
