2 years ago, I watched the documentary "Food Matters" on Netflix, and it changed my life forever. I was a SAD eater from birth, and at the ripe age of 24, my energy levels started to diminish. The day following my introduction into raw foods, I started eating a 100% raw vegan diet. A few days later, I hit a wall, and reverted back to my favorite SAD food: pizza.
Over the next few months, I did hundreds of hours of research, and transitioned into a full vegan diet, eventually attempting a "30 day raw food challenge" which lasted an entire year. After a year of eating raw, my chronic acne and chronic heartburn disappeared completely, and my energy levels were much higher.
I noticed towards the end of my first full year on raw foods that my energy wasn't as high as it initially was when I was introduced to them, so I reverted to cooked vegan foods occasionally to see if that would make me feel any better. As I noticed no improvement, I started my vigorous research again.
I don't know how it happened, but I found the durianriders channel on YouTube, and quickly, everything that Harley said JUST MADE SENSE. Everything I was confused about previously suddenly became apparent, and I was truly enlightened. Most importantly, I realized the reason my energy levels were low was because of my reliance on fats, mainly avocados, but also nuts and seeds, and even sometimes olive oil. While previously I had consumed about 20% of my calories from fat, after being enlightened by Harley, I immediately lowered my intake to 10%. Then, after realizing I had been under eating my calories for the past two years, I upped my intake of carbs, and the fat percentage dropped even further to 5%.
Although I felt betrayed by the poor job that many of the raw food leaders do in explaining the raw food diet, I felt so grateful to finally have found something that MADE SENSE. The days of believing that 2500 calories a day (at max) could get me by were gone. My intake has since been upped to nearly 1000 calories more per day (at minimum), and I feel great. My energy is through the roof. I did notice a 5lbs. gain in weight initially, but since, I have lost that same 5lbs.
With my new found energy, I have become so much more active than I was, and I have this urge to "make a change." I want to spread the high carb, raw vegan message the best way I can, and I am looking to meet people with that same interest, or at least those willing to listen.
Carb the fudge up!

My favourite books/movies/authors/pastimes are...
My number one passion in life has always been skateboarding. As I aged, I realized I'd prefer a more injury free approach to exercise which is when I switched to the bike. Cycling has provided me with a new adventure and inspires me daily to conquer other aspects of my life. I don't find myself reading books as much as I should, and I like nostalgic any movie from the 90s.

The Frugivore started this site to bring together frugivores across the Globe! Let us know what high fruit assistance do you need?
I need to meet more people that have the common interests of veganism and health, and who also believe in HCRV, or are at least willing to learn.
