The past 5 years has been quite traumatic health wise for me - diagnosed with lyme and various other co-infections. The health crisis appeared mysteriously after a summer traveling to Europe. Leading up to that trip I wsa intermittent fasting, as well following a more ketogenic diet. The diet was not beneficial to my immune system or my adrenals, and that summer traveling was quite a stressful one. The immense stress and trauma from the trip, in addition to eating a poor diet is what kicked my immune system for a tail spin and since that trip I have been in recovery mode. My symptoms range from fatigue, depression and extreme mental fog and confusion. They often happen in waves and they dramatically impact my social life - most times after work I just don't have the energy to maintain a relationship.
My primary way of managing all of this had been meditation and eating a "balanced" diet (with carbs/fats and proteins). I had weeks were I felt okay, and others where I felt like I was dying. I continue and had been to many health practitioners and doctors with no real solution in sight and many hunderes of dollars on supplements and herbs. Last month was a particularly bad month for me where I just instinctively knew my body wasn't going to be able to manage much more of this. I'd often think to myself that I only had about 5 or 10 more years left. A depressing thing to think when your in your 30s. Meditation allowed me to feel sane in this midst of all of this. I trusted that the answer would come to me and I would find a way out of this. Walking around the book store I was looking for more books on meditation, and serendipitously came across Medical Medium by Anthony Williams. The book really resonated with me and I followed his protocols - following a raw fruits and vegetables diet with frequent eating (for the adrenals), as well as a few other supplement and food recommendations for EBV and lymes. The first few days were very difficult, but around day 4 I felt a shift. My mood has drastically improve and my creativity and love for singing and making music has peaked its way back in (something I hadn't done since the illness took hold). I know there is something here, but still had questions about managing a raw diet for the long haul. Endless discussion boards and reddits led me to Doug Grahams work and was excited to give his approach a try. I am two weeks into eating 80/10/10 and feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel for me. For the first time in a long while I have real hope. My primary interest in joining this groups is to - meet others in Portland who are also on 80/10/10 - get advice on transitioning to an 80/10/10 diet - recipe ideas Im really excited about this new lifestyle and know community is a big variable for success. Thanks for considering me and excited to be part of this movement. With qi and love, Joshua Portland, OR
