In 2013 I moved to Mobile Alabama (in America) to go to college, and became an "accidental" vegetarian . I was broke (like most college students) and I had a hard time stomaching the greasy disgusting food the cafe had to offer. I even wrote an essay about how college students could progress and learn more if the cafeteria served healthier food. So instead i ate lots of Raisin Brand with Low Fat Cow's Milk :(, spinach pasta, and sunflower seeds. Eventually I met a guy who had this whole ambiance about him. He seemed very peaceful and full of love (in a non romantic way) and he really resonated with me. He told me about being vegan, and i was inspired. Eventually I found Freelee on YouTube by accident, but non of it really stuck with me. Long story short, I got in a really bad car accident and I realized I wanted to live my life helping people improve theirs through their health. I studied personal training books and videos and recipes and lifestyles. I tried so hard to get healthy and it just wasn't happening. My health was getting worse. Eventually through reading a post about abs being made in the kitchen, I researched more into healthy food and came across the movies Forks over Knives and Hungry for Change. From there I have spent the last 2 years trying different things and then I found Freelee again (and then Durian) and her videos really started to inspire me. In August-September I started to transition. I ate more veggies, cut things out and started reading labels. The more i learned about cruelty, the easier it got to not eat meat. In the present, I have lost 20+ lbs and love the way i feel. I still have a good bit of weight to loose, but I am extremely happy with my quality of life and health and can't wait to see more changes.

The Frugivore started this site to bring together frugivores across the Globe! Let us know what high fruit assistance do you need?
In Alabama, or the south period, there are VERY VERY FEW Vegans. I have only ever met one other vegan (knowingly). So its pretty lonely over here. Also I have this huge frustration and depression about all of the cruelty and the animals. I feel like no one cares about their health and i've heard James Aspey say that most vegans go through something like that. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to help my friends understand why im so sad and how frustrating it is to see my family and people i really care about destroy their health. I feel really lonely and lost.
The Frugivore Diet is a fruit-based vegan internet community which promotes a high carb fruit based vegan lifestyle free of any animal products. Thats wonderful you're feeling better about everything now! I have felt pretty confident in my choices for about a year now, but the constant explaining and what not can get tiring :) I am about 5 or more hours away from Mobile, but maybe I can make it down to a few of those! I'm a lot closer to Tennessee actually! Yay for whole foods! Huntsville just got ours back in November..a Sprouts too! Thank you for letting me know!
Hey, girl! Just wanted to tell you that I totally get being frustrated with the rarity of vegans in the south. I am in Alabama too (Hutnsville).. and after having moved back home from San Diego..I feel more isolated in my lifestyle choices than ever! We are doing the right thing, so keep your head up! :)
