I'm a young single mother of one, I've been mildly vegetarian my whole life with a strong dairy protein allergy. As my child grew up she had a strong aversion to meat and I was looking for ways to lose the excess baby weight and stumbled upon Freelee & Durian Rider. I remember there was a big scene about them when I was in high school, everyone was talking about it. But it has taken me another 7 years before I even saw anything about them again. I decided to plunge myself into being a strict vegan. I never really liked meat or eggs to begin with and dairy always made me sick as a child so it seemed like the obvious choice.
I did it solo for almost 2 years and I almost got back to pre-baby weight, I lost 10cm from my waist in the first 2 weeks!
I then became really sick (I suffer from a number of illnesses) and after having some gastroenterology procedures done I was recommended to a dietician on the FODMAPS diet. I then made the decision to go back to my old lifestyle so that I would not make myself worse with severe restrictions of food. At this point I began travelling overseas and Vietnam brought back my aversion to animal products. I had lost weight on the FODMAPS diet but soon after returning home I had put it all back on again. FODMAPS was hard to maintain past a certain point and I ended up going back to my vegan diet.
When I began Uni later that year I was eating high fat low carb vegan takeout almost everyday and then I began piling on the kgs. I made new friends who didn't share my interest in health or wellbeing and I started to sink into their bad habits. Growing up in my family we were pretty typical (meat & 3 vege kinda deal), all our meals were home cooked and I didn't have my first taste of junk food until I was 15. So being 23 and on my own I lashed out and I tried all the foods I had never had before. I even ate dairy products. And you can imagine how much weight I heaped on and how gross and yucky I felt. How bad my skin had gotten and how sick and in pain I was. My body was all at once falling and bursting at the seams.
But through it all I still maintained the vegan lifestyle/thought process albeit the diet. I still refrained from buying animal products, I didn't have anything like that in my home or pantry. I guess I just cheated myself into it by thinking that if I allowedsomeone else to prepare the animal flesh that if was okay, disassociation at its best! So that little flame inside of me that had been there all this time was then reignited once my boyfriend had been recommended a new diet from his doctor who turned out to be vegan! I didn't know this until I made an appointment with him. Up until that point I had been in and out of the hospital for a year since my trip overseas. He, himself recommended that I started juices and smoothies so that I could pack in all my fruit and veggie intake. That's when I started to go back to what I loved and knew I needed.. BEING 100% VEGAN!
I found Freelee again and bought her ebook, not a second thought. I am now still following the BGC30 and at my heaviest I'm still yet to see any remarkable weight change but I fell exactly how I felt last year.. Light, free, fresh & healthy. I haven't had any cramps! (Rejoice!) and that is probably due to cutting out dairy and the food combinations which are so much gentler on my stomach and intestines. But more than ever I've had trouble with the RT4. The first time I went vegan it was not raw till 4 and I never had any cravings but this time round I find myself craving cooked food and I'm undercarbing. I really want to get the most out of food so I need some help here!
And as a little side note, my boyfriend who has been completely supportive from the start, is now joining me in being vegan! This is someone who loves meat and is a chef by trade, he has had several of my vegan dinners and loves them!
And I'm so excited to be sharing in this journey with him.
